6/12/07

Good morning, it’s Tuesday, June 12, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.

Users crashed the HBO website on Sunday night trying to leave their two bits about the climax, or as many would say, anti-climax of The Sopranos. In many homes, viewers thought something went suddenly awry with their cable connection as screens went black. There have been reports of violent acts upon defenseless television sets in an effort to jar the picture back on before the credits emerged from the dark.  Suppositions flew that HBO toyed with David Chase’s ending, that something went wrong with the sound, that the real ending is being held for the DVD release or that the open-ended thing was just a set-up for a feature film. Withdrawal symptoms are never pleasant.

Tonight’s Premieres:
DIY Network: Sweat Equity at 830p
National Geographic Channel: Critical Situation at 9p
Oxygen: The Bad Girls Road Trip at 10p and Fight Girls at 1030p
TLC: Miami Ink at 10p

From Roadside to Ringside – Two Oxygen Originals Premiere Tonight

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Sleuth, the 24-hour mystery and crime channel from NBC Universal, will offer Sleuth On Demand, a free package starting June 21 available on participating cable operators including Advanced Cable Communications, Buckeye CableSystem, Choice Cable, Liberty Cablevision of Puerto Rico, Mediacom Communications and Vista III Media. Twenty hours of on-demand content will feature movies and such classic TV series as first seasons of Miami Vice, Rockford Files and Conviction to the more recent series by Dick Wolf.

Program Partners has cleared the Canadian procedural drama ReGenesis, produced by Shaftesbury Films, in over 75% of the U.S. The barter only series launches weekends this fall on station groups ABC, Belo, CBS, Granite, Fox, Hearst, Landmark, Lin, Tribune and Young. ReGenesis is shot entirely in high-def. The story revolves around NorBAC (North American Biotechnology Advisory Commission), the special operations team led by Molecular Biologist Dr. David Sandstrom, played by Peter Outerbridge, who fights to keep deadly diseases contained.

Two series coming to TV Land:

  • The return of TV Land Confidential to the schedule as of July 11 at 10p. The program delves into mysteries and questions surrounding popular TV shows, stars, finales, movies and songs. The 30m, six-episode series will air Wednesdays at 10p through August 8 and is executive produced by David P. Levin of BrainStorm Inc.
  • Original series Back to the Grind, takes TV stars from the past and has them recreate in the real-life occupation their character performed. For example, Loni Anderson will be a receptionist at a top radio station a la WKRP in Cincinnati and Harry Anderson will try his hand as a judge just like in Night Court. The half-hour series debuts July 18 at 1030pm. The series is executive produced by Michael Levitt and Eugene Pack.

Oxygen and Glam Media partnered to create an online game around the premiere of Fight Girls, allowing participants to draft fighters from the series, who earn or lose points based on how they “perform” on the show. The game was developed by Fafarazzi.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

This fall when The CW’s Smallville returns for a seventh season on Thursdays at 8p, the DC Comic character Supergirl will join the cast of villains and superheroes. Casting for the role is currently underway. A little background on the character: Supergirl is Clark’s 19-year old wayward cousin who was born on Krypton and has all the same powers that he has except she’s unable to fly. She’s also the daughter of Zor-El and will apparently be a love interest for Jimmy Olsen.
