Cynopsis: Kids!

Good morning. It’s Tuesday, July 12, 2011, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing. 

Milan-based Atlantyca Entertainment establishes Atlantyca-LAB, a new research and development digital division that will focus on the development of videogames, apps, and content for and from the web.  Atlantyca-LAB will exploit Atlantyca and Atlantyca Dreamfarm owned brands and copyrights owned, including the kid-targeted properties Geronimo Stilton, Ulysses Moore, Agatha Mistery, Klincus Corteccia, Bat Pat, those in development, as well as acquiring new properties.  Pierdomenico Baccalario, author and Publisher-in-Chief/Atlantyca Entertainment, will serve as MD.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Alloy Entertainment taps writer Joe Ballarini (The Legendary McClouds, Maintenance) to write the feature film adaptation of Paul Watson’s upcoming sci-fi book The Robot, per VarietyThe Robot, which debuts later this month, revolves around two teens on a mission to thwart the efforts of a robot assassin, which could start WW III.  Alloy Entertainment’s other young adult book series, several of which have been adapted as TV series, include The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, and Pretty Little Liars, and Private, among others. Alloy’s Leslie Morgenstein and Boy Levy are producing the movie.

MORE KIDS STUFF

You may remember your way to Sesame Street, but did you know that Oscar the Grouch was once orange?  Well, he was for a bit.  Full-length classic episodes of Sesame Street, including the first episodes of the series from 1969, are now available for download exclusively via the iTunes Store ( www.itunes.com/sesamestreetclassic ).  The collection of Sesame Street Classics: Volume 1 is comprised of 12 episodes (four episodes each from seasons 1, 10 and 20).  Those that buy all 12 episodes ($1.99/each) will also get the bonus video Behind the Street: Volume 1 (1×25), which also includes pop-up facts about the series.  A special free retrospective of Sesame Street through the years is also now available to download on iTunes.

Family Channel (Canada) is hosting two Night of Premieres programming events, including specials and new episode premieres on consecutive Fridays this July.  The episodes from both evenings will also be available via Family OnDemand.

  • Friday, July 15 at 7p the network will premiere a special crossover episode of Good Luck Charlie and Shake It Up.  Leading into the debut of the special, new episodes of the series What’s Up, Warthogs! (beginning at 3:30p), Wizards of Waverly Place (5p), and So Random! (6p) will premiere.  The evening will also feature new episodes of Phineas and Ferb, Fish Hooks, Shake It Up, and Pair of Kings.
  • Friday, July 22  Family Channel will premiere new episodes of So Random! and Good Luck Charlie from 5:30-8p, kicking off the evening with Really Me (5:30p).  The night also includes new episodes of Debra! (6:30p) and A.N.T. Farm (7:30p).

Bejuba Entertainment and Small Screen Distribution finalize new broadcast deals for the CGI animated series Mr. Moon.  Broadcasters acquiring the series include SRC (Canada), ABC (Australia), KBS (Korea), TVNZ (New Zealand), as well as TVB Pearl (Hong Kong), Spacetoon (Indonesia), and OKTO (Singapore).  A co-production of Sparky Animation (Singapore), Gallileo (UK), and Title Entertainment (Canada), the series follows the adventures of Mr. Moon as he zips through around exploring the universe on his Supafast Moon Rocket with his friends Silva and Gold Star.  The series is produced in cooperation with Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA)), TVO, Knowledge Network, SCN and Disney Junior UK.

CBS Interactive launches the new iPad app, Star Trek PADD (Personal Access Display Device).  Developed in conjunction with CBS Mobile by the development studio ArcTouch, the Star Trek PADD ($4.99) app features a reproduction of the LCARS interface (yeah, that’s the computer system used in the Star Trek TV series), including Star Trek-related sound effects and prompts from a recognizable computer voice, as well as an interactive database of the TV series information, including images and an episode guide.

MARKETING/LICENSING

Warner Bros. Consumer Products prepares for this week’s release of the final Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows  Part 2 (Friday, July 15), with the unveiling of its worldwide licensing Potter program with a range of licensing partners.  LEGO debuts various construction Potter-themed play sets and a video game from EA Games, while Tomy products include Infrared wands, and Rubies is offering a range of Harry Potter costumes.  Warner Bros. Interactive will release LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 video game (a sequel to LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4) in winter 2011.  Other partners include Panini, Transworld, Winning Movies and She Who Dares, with their new products including sticker books and stickers, the Film Wizardry behind-the-scenes book, Harry Potter Top Trumps and the newly updated board game Destination Hogwarts.  Other licensee partners include NECA, DeAgostini, Hasbro, Hallmark, Mead, Tonner Doll, Artbox Entertainment, Bioworld Merchandising, Gentle Giant, and Jelly Belly Candy Company, among others.

Scholastic Media will debut the first Magic School Bus game title, The Magic School Bus: Oceans, for Nintendo DS this fall 2011 to coincide with the 25th anniversary of The Magic School Bus brand.  The Magic School Bus: Ocean invites players drive the game and unlock six different ocean levels, shifting into a different marine vehicle with each level as they navigate the game, ocean areas and various sea life, and of course learning facts along the way.  Distributed by Cokem International, the game is based on The Magic School Bus animated science adventure series, which in turn is based on the popular eponymous book series from author Joanna Cole and illustrator Bruce Degen.

4sight Licensing Solutions, a unit of 4Kids Entertainment International, inks a new deal with Slovakian licensee Argus spol to produce merchandise based on South Korean licensor Project 109‘s teen girl-targeted Chicaloca fashion property.  Set for release for the Czech and Slovakian market beginning summer 2012, Argus spol’s line of Chicaloca products will feature greeting cards, postcards, gift bags, gift boxes, wrapping paper, notepads, albums, diaries, exercise books, folders, archive boxes, clipboards, pencil cases, wallets, mobile carrying bags, gym bags, school backpacks and slip and book covers.

Peaceable Kingdom grows its collection of sticker products with the addition of four new Quick Sticker Kits (each contains a mini project), three new Reusable Sticker Totes (reusable vinyl cling stingers and four scenes/backdrops), a the new line of Color Me Stickers (these stickers can be colored using a marker or pencil) and three new Scratch & Sniff Stickers.
