CYNTHIA TURNER’S
Cynopsis

01/31/06

Good morning. It’s Tuesday, January 31, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing, coming to you from the Real Screen Summit in Washington, DC.

The latest news from Germany is ABC News Anchor Bob Woodruff and his cameraman Doug Vogt are both showing signs of improvement.  Doctors at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in western Germany said they both remain in serious but stable condition, and there is some speculation they will be moved to a hospital state-side in the next day or two.

Tonight’s Premiere:
Univision: Vecinos at 10p*MORE GOOD STUFF*Mark Burnett has a new project, and this time with AOLGold Rush will feature a treasure hunt, airing exclusively on AOL.com in brief 4-5 minute episodes designed to engage the viewer.  Clues are hidden within various AOL online properties, while other clue hiding places are being negotiated, including a television network where clues may be hidden within the shows. This is the fourth online reality series for AOL

CABLEready will introduce its new series BUSTED! Fraud vs. Forensics, a 30m hi-def investigative series from CMJ Productions.  This series profiles how forensic science and technology help uncover some of the most fraudulent insurance crimes.  Also coming from CMJ Prods and CABLEready are two other series: Accident Investigator (4-60m eps) and Risk Takers (8-60m episodes).  Accident Investigator focuses on accident cases that reveal truths behind deadly mishaps and disasters. Risk Takers is up close and person wtih the world’s top rescue teams, their cutting edge technology and their heroic efforts.  Look for the latter two to debut at MIPCOM 2005.

DIY Network plans a new series called Creative Juice, set to launch on February 6 at 10p.  With hosts Cathie Filian and Steve Piacenza, the show takes a fresh look at old crafty ideas in the realms of entertaining and cooking.

Oxygen hit a new milestone — it will begin February 206 with 66.3 million subscriber homes, up 22% from last year.  The increase is the result of new carriage deals with Echostar and Comcast.

* NEW ORDERS / CASTING / DEVELOPMENT / PRODUCTION *Fox has ordered a pilot of More, Patience and if it sounds at all familiar – it should.  This project came about five years ago, starred Mary McCormack as a NYC psychiatrist named Patience More.  Again written by Jed Seidel, the order is cast contingent.  This project comes from Pariah TV and Sony Pictures TV.

A comedy project has been ordered by NBC called Community Service from NBC Universal TV about a one-time big deal real estate developer, who loses everything and now finds himself having to fulfill 500 hours of community service.  The pilot was written by David Israel and Jim O’Doherty.

The CW has un-ordered a project that was in development for the WB and was supposed to go to pilot.  The Cult was to star Matthew Bomer – ordered just two weeks ago, and just one week before the merger announcement between UPN and WB.  As for Aquaman, also ordered by WB before the merger announcement, that pilot will go forward.

ABC is looking at a project which would be the episodic version of the film Mr. and Mrs. Smith, from Regency TV.  The film, of course, starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who were both assassins. The pilot will be written by Simon Kinberg, who also wrote the film.

CBS has ordered three pilots –

  • An untitled project from Happy Madison and Sony Pictures TV about a married couple, an engaged couple and a single guy.
  • Welcome to the Jungle Gym, about a woman who decides to concentrate more of her life on home and family, and her friends who are also attempting to balance work and home. Produced by Warner Bros. TV.
  • And an untitled comedy about a young couple and her very large and extended family. This project is from Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, who will write and exec produce, and NBC Universal TV.

Comedy Central has ordered six episodes of The Sarah Silverman Program, with an air date set for this summer.  Silverman’s character life is told thru a series of scripted scenes and songs. Comedy Central has ordered six episodes.

Spike TV has ordered 13 episodes of Blade from New Line Television and based on the Marvel Entertainment superhero. According to Hollywood Reporter, this project may come to air as early as this summer.

ABE. BEN. WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

OK, there’s funny money, and there’s really funny money.
