Cynopsis: Kids!

Good morning. It’s Tuesday, February 28, 2012, and this your first early morning briefing.

Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) inks a new six-year deal with pay-TV satellite platform Digiturk to carry six of its channels, including kid and family targeted channels, across Turkey, per Broadband TV News. In the kid arena, beginning Thursday March 1, 2012, Nickelodeon will broadcast exclusively on Digiturk, which will be followed in the coming months by the addition of Nick Jr. and Nickelodeon HD channels. Also under the deal, Digiturk will begin by bringing MTV, featuring Turkish language subtitles, and MTV Live HD to its subscribers also from March 1, 2012, marking the first time the MTV HD channel will be available in Turkey. VH1 will continue to be seen exclusively on Digiturk in Turkey. The deal will also see Digiturk serve as VIMN’s ad sales partner, giving Digiturk oversight for local ad deals for Nickelodeon and MTV.


Marvel Entertainment powers into the pet category for the first time with Super Hero inspired products under a new licensing deal with Fetch… for cool pets! The deal will see a line of Marvel Super Hero pet toys, apparel and accessories debut at PetSmart stores beginning this week in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico, as well its PetSmart.com (www.petsmart.com). Specifically, the line will feature Marvel themed pet products such as toys and apparel, which will be followed by an assortment of aquatic products. The new line of Marvel Super Hero pet products will be supported with in-store signage, online promotions and a sweepstakes exclusively for fans of PetSmart Facebook page.

V&S Entertainment inks further licensing deals for its preschool animated series Everything’s Rosie in Spain with Educa and Munecas Saica. Educa joins the licensing program to create a line of Everything’s Rosie puzzles and board games, which will debut at retail from spring 2012. Munecas Saica signs on to produce an array of Everything Rosie’s branded outdoor toys, including inflatables, racket sets, PVC balls, body boards and water guns; skateboards, mini rollers, bikes and roller skates; and golf sets, basketball sets and tennis rackets. Everything’s Rosie airs in Spain on RTVE, which has already acquired the second season of the series. V&S Entertainment recently announced that master toy distributor Giochi Preziosi Spain is also developing a line of Everything’s Rosie stickers. Other Spanish partners include Panini, Random House Mondadori, DIVISA RED, IMC, Safta, Stor, Astro and CYP Imports.


Big Time Rush, the stars of the eponymous named Nickelodeon TV series and Columbia Recording artists, unveils plans to kick off its 50 city Big Time Summer Tour, on July 5th in Columbus, Ohio. The tour, during which Big Time Rush will perform songs of their newest album Elevate, will make its way across the US and Canada, with stops in NY, Chicago, Boston and Toronto. During select dates, emerging Australian pop star Cody Simpson and X-Factor finalist and newly signed Nickelodeon talent Rachel Crow will open for Big Time Rush. Additional acts will be announced shortly. Tickets for the tour go on sale to the public beginning March 10th at 10a via Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com or 1-800-745-3000). A special ticket pre-sale to American Express card members will be available beginning March 5 at 10a and ending March 9 10p. Citi card members will have access to presale tickets for Wantagh, NY and Holmdel, NJ beginning March 5 at 10a through Citi’s Private Pass Program. Atlantyca Entertainment‘s Geronimo Stilton, the popular book and cartoon character, stars in the Spanish version of Geronimo Stilton In The Kingdom of Fantasy musical opening at Teatro La Latina in Madrid, Spain on March 30. The musical live show tour, a Focus, Grup 62 co-production, makes its way to Madrid following a successful run of the Catalan version in Barcelona. The production is based on the Geronimo Stilton In The Kingdom of Fantasy book series. There have also been Belgian and Dutch productions of this live show.


Teletoon Canada will help Canadian kids enjoy their March school break with its special Can’t Miss March programming event running Monday-Sunday, March 12-18, 2012. Each weekday will kick off with back-to-back movies at 9a, including Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, followed by programming marathons of popular shows including Johnny Test and Total Drama: Revenge of the Island from 12n, and then the evening will bring more movies beginning at 6p, including the network premieres of Shark Tale (2004) and Scooby-Doo! Legend of the Phantosaur (2011). Teletoon will also feature the season four finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Friday, March 16 at 8:30p, as well as the special event Hall of Game Awards, hosted by Shaquille O’Neal, on Sunday, March 18 beginning at 7p.

Classic Media expands and completes new program sales for 1,200+ hours of programming with free terrestrial TV, pay TV and home entertainment partners across the Asia-Pacific region, as well as increasing its presence on IPTV platforms, for a number of its key kid-targeted titles.

  • Postman Pat is picked up in a new free TV deal by EBS (South Korea), and IPTV deals with Yahoo 7 (Australia) and Qiyi/Lekan (China).
  • Guess with Jess, a Postman Pat spin-off series, has been acquired by TVNZ (New Zealand), C4U Media (South Korea), Rose Media (Thailand), and Lekan (China).  Additionally new deals for another preschool property, Finley the Fire Engine, have been completed with Lekan (China, and free TV and home entertainment rights with TIGA (Thailand).
  • In other deals: George of the Jungle has been picked up by Sun TV (India) and True Visions (Thailand); Casper the Friendly Ghost deals include Jigsaw (Australia) acquiring Casper and Friends, Casper: A Spirited Beginning and Casper’s Haunted Christmas, with TIGA (Thailand) taking Casper and Friends, Natseven TV (Malaysia) picking up Casper’s Haunted Christmas and Casper: A Spirited Beginning, and NTV7 (Malaysia) acquiring the movie Casper’s Scare School and season one of Casper’s Scare School.
  • He-Man and the Masters of the Universe has been picked up by Yahoo 7 (Australia) and Qiyi (China)

StormCellar, a publisher of kid’s apps for mobile devices and tablets, along with CrazyBird Studios, unveils plans to release 3D Bears (www.3Dbears.net), a new kid-targeted animation-filled app this March 2012. Designed for younger kids (including toddlers), 3D Bears features simple and approachable gameplay that lets users dress up the three cuddly bears, Cosmo, Ginger and Baby Cooper, and take them out on the dance floor to dance for fun. Each bear specializes in a different dance style (tap, ballet, hop-hop). Kids can dress the bears in everything from top hats to tutus, with choices of 140+ accessories and clothing options. Kids can help the bears during their dance sessions by tapping the screen to start and stop at the right moments, and maybe get themselves up and moving at the same time. 3D Bears will be available on the App Store for iOS devices and on the Android Market and Amazon AppStore for Android devices, optimized for the Samsung Galaxy, the Motorola Xoom, and the Kindle Fire.

Melody Street releases its Mozart Interactive, a new, free mobile app for iPad, iTouch and iPhone. Developed by Melody Street, which also created www.melodystreet.com, the app is designed for kids of all ages and encourage them get creative with music and musical performance as they control and “conduct” where the story goes. The app features musical instruments that come to life, each with their own sound and personality. Mozart Interactive features several different characters and four different sections of the piece to select from, kids can create a total of 81 unique videos to save and share with friends and family.
