02/14/06
Good morning. It’s Tuesday, February 14, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing.
Starz Entertainment Group will launch two new channels on April 3rd: RetroPlex and IndiePlex. RetroPlex offers movies from the 1950s thru the 1970s; and IndiePlex will air theatrical independent films. Both will be commercial-free and carried on the majority of Comcast Cable’s Digital Plus service.
*MORE GOOD STUFF*SOAPnet has ordered up 20 new episodes of its original series Soapography, the show that takes an up-close and personal look at soap stars. The new season is set to launch on March 25th at 6p. SOAPnet has also ordered up two more story arcs for its original short series, One Minute Soap. This series airs new episodes every Monday, airing six times during the course of the day, and each new 60-second episode ends in a cliffhanger. New episodes are scheduled to kick off in April.
Turner Media Group’s subsidiary The Men’s Channel will be re-branded and re-launched as Men’s Outdoors & Recreation on February 20th. The channel features a variety of programming for the outdoor enthusiast, with how-to series and weekend-sportsman shows. Series will include All-American Sportsman, Bikers 2000 Video Magazine, In-Fisherman TV, Sled Head 24/7, V8 TV and Wild Extremes. Men’s Outdoors & Recreation will be available on the DISH satellite network as well as various cable systems across the country.
Banyan Productions will team up with former NFL player Terrell Owens for a new fitness reality series hosted by T.O. The show will include guests from various professional sports.
TCM‘s sixth season of The Essentials will kick off on Sunday, March 11 at 8p with two new hosts: film critic Robert Osborne and writer/critic Molly Haskell. Their commentary on the first film of their dual hosting gig will be The Hustler.
* NEW ORDERS / CASTING / DEVELOPMENT / PRODUCTION *Logo has four projects in development, per Hollywood Reporter: animated domestic comedy Rick and Steve; Slink, another animated comedy about five lesbian cats who collectively inherit a posh estate in Malibu; a comedy called The Rules: A Lesbian Survival Guide is based on the film short by Michelle Paradise and Lee Friedlander, and is about a young woman looking for her heart’s desire; and a drama project called Heartland about a college student who expected a brief visit back home in Iowa, but decided to stay when he realized the family was in trouble.
Two projects over at Fox:
