CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Clearwire
CEO Benjamin Wolff promised the new WiMax venture would run an open, independent network despite the significant cash contributions from investors such as Google, Intel, Comcast and Time Warner Cable. Google does plan to develop applications that run on the platform (including Android-compatible apps) and Intel plans to sell WiMax chips to laptop manufacturers. The 4G wireless broadband service, which is being added to Sprint’s current 2.5 GHz Xohm network, hopes to start offering speeds of 2-4 Mhz/sec. downstream by 2010 in select markets. But Wolff warned the rollout could be slowed if the credit markets don’t improve. Clearwire will henceforth be branded as “Clear,” as in the tagline, “Let’s Be Clear.”  Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.
