Cynopsis: Kids!
12/21/10

Good morning. It’s Tuesday, December 21, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Teletoon Canada gives the go ahead for its new animated comedy TV series Fugget About It (13×30) in English and French.  Developed as part of The Teletoon at Night Pilot Project, the series is produced by Toronto-based 9 Story Entertainment.  Fugget About It revolves around the misadventures of 16-year-old Petey, the son of a former NY mob boss who, with his family, lives in a witness production program in Canada.  Fugget About It is slated to launch on Teletoon English and Teletoon French in fall 2012.  This is the first series to be born from The Teletoon at Night Pilot Project, which launched in fall 2007 and is designed to develop projects from within the Canadian animation community.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

In Canada, Knightscove Family Films (KFF), the production arm of Knightscove Media inks a deal with production company Entertainment One Television (eOne) to co-develop Port Hope, a one-hour family friendly dramatic TV series.  The series is co-created by KFF CEO and President, Leif Bristow, who just directed his feature film Sophie (releasing in Canada for Spring 2011), and writer Heather Conkie (CBC’s Heartland).  Port Hope revolves around the Gilberts, a family that lives on a large, century old farm on the outskirts of Port Hope, Ontario.  The series is described as in the tradition of family series like The Waltons, 7th Heaven and Little House on the Prairie.

Director John Henderson (the TV version of The Borrowers) will helm a big screen adaptation of the popular kid/family wizard/time travel book and UK ITV series Catweazle, created by Richard Carpenter, per THR.  The movie will be produced by Paul Knight and is budgeted at $9.3 million.  UK-based sales and finance company Intandem Films and the UK production company Ettinger Brothers, are partnering raise money for the budget via the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS).  Intandem will executive produce the movie and handle worldwide sales as well.

Answer to Yesterday’s Trivia:   First advertised in 1960, this doll came with a tiny turntable and record built into her tummy to help her “talk”.  Who is she?  CHATTY CATHY  Kudos to:  Arline Wall-Li & Fung/NY; Amy Chrzanowski-UPROAR/NY; Andy Krinner-aNb Media/NY; Estrella Diaz-Turner Broadcasting/NY; Rosemary Cunningham-MMT Cox Reps/Chicago; Dan Whitford-Maximum Direct/Chicago; Ron Grant-Big Balloon Animation/LA

Today’s Trivia Question:   This pair first appeared in a book published in 1918, later dolls were made and a television show first aired in 1988. The girl was first inspired by the author’s daughter who found an old faceless and well loved rag doll that belonged to her grandmother.  Who were this pair?     (Email [email protected] with your answer and be sure to include your name, company, city and time zone. Unofficial rules: Only the second four correct answers from each time zone will be mentioned; and once you’ve been mentioned in any of the Cynopsis editions, you can’t be mentioned again that calendar week.)
