Good morning. It’s Tuesday, December 20, 2011, and this your first early morning briefing.
The LEGO Group is set to launch its new girl 5+ targeted LEGO Friends play theme line at retail in the UK on December 26, 2011 and the US on January 1, 2012, followed by a rolling debut for the rest of the world in spring. The new line will debut with 23 products including the first LEGO mini-doll figure, three new brick colors and realistic detailed interiors. LEGO conducted research with girls and their moms around the world over the last several years to create LEGO Friends, which is designed specifically for girls and the realistic role-play, creative and detailed, character-based style of play they enjoy. The new mini-doll figure, a pretty big deal in the world of LEGO fans, features more a realistic looking character figure, which is slightly taller than its LEGO minifigure sibling – but maintains a similar constructability and the same hands that can easily hold accessories, wears the same hair and headpieces, and is compatible with all LEGO sets. A series of 29 mini-doll figures will be released throughout 2012. Set in Heartlake City, the LEGO Friends revolves around the daily lives of five girls, Olivia, Mia, Andrea, Stephanie and Emma, each with their own personality, style, interests and themed sets, such as Stephanie’s Outdoor Bakery, Emma’s Splash Pool, Andrea’s Stage, Olivia’s Inventor’s Workshop etc. Online, LegoFriends.com will also invite kids to learn more about the personalities of each of the five Friends and the different places in Heartlake City. The site will also offer an avatar creator, mini-movies, games, video building tips, story extensions, contests, news and a calendar of events. LEGO also plans to launch interactive building events and live road shows, promotions, magazines, digital content, in-store events, and books, among other things.
