Additionally, the MTVN Mobile Media unit will support the teams at the individual MTVN brands, which includes the Kids and Family Group, Entertainment Group; Music, Logo and Films Group; and MTVN International, in developing a unique range of mobile content and applications.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
The film and TV rights to Peter Pan In Scarlet, author Geraldine McCaughrean’s officially sanctioned sequel to Peter Pan, have been granted to a consortium of BBC Films, UK Film Council and Headline Pictures by the Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital (GOSH). Charlotte Mann of The Rod Hall Agency Ltd brokered the rights agreement on behalf of GOSH. Peter Pan creator/author J.M. Barrie gave the rights to the London hospital in 1929, as an ongoing source of funding for the institution. In 2004 GOSH Trustees launched a search for an author to pen a sequel to Barrie’s Peter Pan. An advisory panel selected McCaughrean, author of 132+ books & plays, and her book Peter Pan In Scarlet was subsequently published this fall in the UK by Oxford University Press and in the US by Margaret K. McElderry Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, and around the world through with international publishing partners.

STONE SOUP
While I know that I think this every year, haven’t we have lost some of the best in the business this year? News of the passing of these two gentlemen just underlines what I’m talking about.
News came tonight that Joe Barbera, the latter half of the Hanna-Barbera writing and animation team, died yesterday at the age of 95. Barbera and his partner Bill Hanna met at MGM’s cartoon animation division in the 1940s and starting there were single-handedly responsible for changing the face of animation, specifically TV cartoons, beginning with their Tom & Jerry shorts, which ran in movie houses and later became a TV series. When MGM shuttered its animation department, the two creators established Hanna-Barbera Productions, and they were off and running with their first TV project, Ruff and Reddy. The two characters served as wrap-around segments for animated movie shorts for Screen Gems, followed the next year (1958) by the Huckleberry Hound series that was comprised of some of the teams’ other famous characters including Yogi Bear, Quick Draw McGraw and Pixie and Dixie, which eventually went on to have their own programs. In 1960 Hanna-Barbera produced The Flintstones, the first ever primetime animated series featuring one main story-arc in each 30-minute episode, the series ran on ABC for six years. Two years later, Hanna Barbera’s stone-aged family was joined in primetime by its space-aged series, The Jetsons (okay it only lasted a year there). Of course we could go show-by-show but that would pretty much mean year-by-year so I’ll just remind you of some of Hanna Barbera’s other series (most hits, others less so), specials and animated movies (TV and theatrical): The Yogi Bear Show; Top Cat; Jonny Quest; Scooby Doo (and other variations); Fantastic Four; Superfriends; Sky Commanders; Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm (and variations);; Captain Planet; Alice in Wonderland; Jack and the Beanstalk; The Stone Fox; Anchors Aweigh; Charlotte’s Web; The Pagemaster among many many others. Hanna-Barbera was acquired by Turner Broadcasting in 1991, which in turn was acquired by Time Warner in 1996. Barbera’s partner Bill Hanna passed away in 2001
Chris Hayward, who wrote for TV shows including Rocky and Bullwinkle, Get Smart, The Munster’s and Barney Miller, passed away last month from cancer, he was 81. As part of Jay Ward’s Sunset Boulevard studios, the comic writer helped to develop the inept animated Canadian Mountie Dudley Do-Right, as well as writing for various other segments featured on the Rocky and Bullwinkle shows, which bowed as Rocky and His Friends on ABC in 1959, and two years later began airing on NBC, where it was called The Bullwinkle Show. No matter what you call the show(s), Rocky and Bullwinkle and the segments within the shows included some of the funniest writing ever that still holds up today – some of my first memories of uncontrollable laughter came while watching these shows. While working for Ward, Hayward met Allan Burns, who together created TV series The Munster’s, which launched on CBS in 1964, as well as another 1960s CBS series titled He & She. When the two parted ways, Hayward went on to write and co-produce Barney Miller for ABC.
EXECUTIVE MOVES

- Jeremiah Zinn takes on the role of VP/Mobile Operations and Product Development. He will work with the individual MTVN brand teams to manage wireless products and creating partnerships with service and technology companies. Zinn will continue to report to Layman.
