Sci Fi Channel‘s finale of Doctor Who on August 1 delivered a 1.0 HH rating and 1.26 million total viewers, according to Live + Same Day Nielsen data. In key demos, Dr. Who delivered 695,000 A25-54 and 588,000 A18-49.  Overall Season #4 was up over the previous season by 25% in household ratings, and 6% in both key demos.

Lifetime will add off-network episodes of Wife Swap to its schedule next month, airing weekdays at 3p and 4p, beginning September 2.  Also joining the daytime lineup on 9/2/08 will be the off-net episodes of Desperate Housewives, beginning at the beginning with the pilot episode.

Adding to its “Movies We Love” franchise, E! Entertainment picked up the cable rights to New Line Cinema’s feature film Sex and the City, as well as He’s Just Not that Into You and The Women.  The agreement gives E! the second position in the network television window for the three films and includes select new media rights. E!’s window begins in July 2012, and sister network The Style Network will also have concurrent rights to all three titles.   Other titles under E!’s Movies We Love moniker include  Knocked Up, Evan Almighty, Chocolat, Coyote Ugly, and Picture perfect, among others.

Weigel Broadcast Co. is selling its three low-power television stations in the South Bend, Indiana market to WSBT, Inc., an operating unit of Schurz Communications, Inc., also based in South Bend.  The stations being sold include ABC affiliate WBND; CW station WCWW and MyNetwork TV affiliate WMYS.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Coming up next for AMC – a new political thriller, reports THR.  The project from Jason Horwitch is about a secret society who is using the political system as its own puppets, and a think tank analyst who realizes his employers are not what he thought they were. Production is scheduled to begin in October.  No casting news yet.

Michael Gross joins the cast of The Young and the Restless, beginning Friday, August 15th.  He will play Lowell Baldwin, now known as River, the long-lost father of Michael Baldwin, played by Christian LeBlanc.  For those of you Family Ties fans, Michael Gross was the dad, Steven Keaton.

The Next Food Network Star winner, Aaron McCargo Jr., debuted his new Food Network series Big Daddy’s House last Sunday at 130p, where it will air weekly. There were two runner ups on this series and one of them was Adam Gertler who will also get his own Food Network Show called Will Work for Food.  The project is currently in production and is scheduled to debut on Tuesday, September 30 at 930p.  The series follows Adam as he learns about some of the food industry’s most unique jobs – and tries them all firsthand.

A new project for CBS Confessions of a Contractor is based on the Richard Murphy book by the same name, due out from Putnam on August 14.  According to Variety, the drama is about a blue collar general contractor in LA who oversees the remodeling jobs of wealthy people’s homes.  Twentieth Century Fox TV is producing the 60m project from Shawn Ryan.  Author Murphy is set to write the script and act as co-exec producer.

Casting Call:  Bravo is ramping up for yet another spinoff of the original Real Housewives of Orange County, and this time they’re looking for Orange County based 18-20 somethings who are enjoying the fast lane in Orange County. The ideal candidates are just getting started in life – in college, looking for their first apartment, nailing that first career job, just got married, or have chosen living at home as their best alternative.  They want people with opinions, independent and have ongoing involved relationships with their parents. As far as location, the network is most interested in kids living in the Newport, Newport Coast/Harbor, Irvine and Corona del Mar and surrounding areas.  For more info, call the Casting Hotline at 818.557.1198, or email

~ ELSEWHERE IN CYNOPSIS ~

Sunday at Scripps Networks. A Prime Time for “Star” Gazing.

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORYThe Network DVR made a comeback yesterday when a federal appeals court ruled that Cablevision violated no copyright laws when it allowed viewers to access shows from its headend in a time-shifted manner. A number of cable networks and Hollywood studios sued the MSO successfully last year, forcing Cablevision discontinue plans to roll out the technology across its entire footprint. The fight is far from being over, as the whole ad-skipping issue is likely to be revisited. But if the decision holds cable companies may be in the position to offer customers what could prove to be a huge differentiator – the chance to enjoy Tivo functionality without having to pay an extra fee. Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.

Cynopsis Kids – now with HTML elements!

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  (Now with HTML elements!)  The Wiggles, Nine Network (Australia) and Nickelodeon Australia are teaming to produce a new preschool series, The Kingdom of Paramithi (30×30).  Created by Anthony Field (he’s the blue Wiggle) and Paul Field, the series features music, dance, folk tales and other adventure stories.  The Kingdom of Paramithi will bow first on Nine Network in November 2008, followed by its debut on Nickelodeon’s Nick Jr. network in December.  The series is written by Paul Field and Paul Paddick. Full edition: CYN KIDS.

CYNOPSIS INTERNATIONAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:   Following up on Lavena Holding 4 GmbH’s put option to force a buy, Telegraaf Media Group acquired a 12% stake in Germany’s ProSiebenSat.1 for $587 million.  The price came out to $44.72 a share, whereas the network’s share price is presently trading at $8.56.  Lavena bought the option last year when Telegraaf Media Group sold its SBS stake to KKR and Lavena.  Full edition: CYN INTERNATIONAL.
