Good morning. It’s Tuesday, August 22, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing.
ABC‘s late night guy Jimmy Kimmel will now be seen in the daylight as host of primetime game show Set for Life, produced by Endemol USA. Kimmel will continue his late night gig with ABC while taping the game show episodes during the daytime hours. Can he host two shows at the same time? Kimmel’s response: “I tried to tell ABC that it is too difficult to do a talkshow every night and an hour-long primetime show, too. Unfortunately, there’s a 75-year-old man named Regis who seems to have no problem with it.” No news on when the show will debut.
Tonight’s Finale:
Bravo: Work Out at 9p
Tonight’s Premiere:
Oxygen: Breaking Up with Shannen Doherty at 10p
MGM Studios Inc. will make current episodes of the sci-fi/adventure series Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis available for download and purchase on the iTunes Music Store. Starting with the first five episodes of Stargate SG-1’s tenth season and the first five episodes of Stargate Atlantis’ third season, future episodes of both series will be available on iTunes within a day of airing on the SCI FI Channel.
Another note about these two shows: Sci Fi Channel will not be ordering new episodes of Stargate SG-1 beyond its current 10th season, but the network has ordered additional episodes of Stargate Atlantis.
BBC America will premiere a new series set in the north of England called The Street on October 3 at 10p. The Street, starring an ensemble cast including Timothy Spall, Jim Broadbent, Jane Horrocks and Sue Johnston, is about six houses on a particular street and the unexpected stories of the ordinary people living at each address.
A new weekly half-hour show combining golf and entertainment, The Clubhouse will be available on a 3.5/3.5 barter split starting in January, distributed by Mark Anthony Ent. Produced in hi-def, the show will highlight the latest in golf equipment, golf travel opportunities, interviews with PGA players and tips and techniques from the pros. Seventeen original episodes will be produced, airing twice over a 34-week period. For more information, check out www.theclubhouse.tv.
HGTV HD will premiere What’s With That House? on September 5 at 10p, a new show that takes viewers inside unique homes across America.
The independent network, AmericanLife TV Network, will premiere a new reality series Profiles in Caring that focuses on the humanitarian work of volunteers worldwide. The 45-episode series is produced by the non-profit Dream Weaver Medical Foundations and will air weekly on Tuesdays at 10a and again at 3p starting September 5.
Comedian and actor, Byron Allen will host and executive produce the new nationally-syndicated comedy series Comics Unleashed which premieres on September 25 from Entertainment Studios. Cleared in 85% of the U.S., as well as Canada and abroad, Comics Unleashed is a half-hour that invites stand-up comedians to sit together in front of a live audience to talk about everyday topics with Byron leading the discussions. Early guests include Howie Mandel, George Wallace, Jon Lovitz, Carol Leifer, Pauly Shore and more. The show will also be viewed on military bases worldwide.
Spike TV’s premiere of The Ultimate Fighter 4: The Comeback on August 17, drew in record numbers of male viewers for the network. The show delivered a 2.2 M18-49 rating with 1.1 million viewers, and a 2.8 M18-34 rating with 739,000 viewers.
Fox Broadcasting Company will utilize short radio ads dubbed “blinks” on 1,100 Clear Channel Radio stations nationwide, airing them every hour between 6a and 7p, to promote its premieres of Prison Break (last night), House on September 5 and The Simpsons on September 10. The quick radio spots combine theme music and remarks by characters to persuade viewers to tune in. FOX successfully tried this technique last year by advertising hourly :30 radio spots over a 24-hour period, to promote the premiere of 24.
At the Cynopsis website (www.cynopsis.com) you’ll find a couple of perhaps handy downloads. One is the 2006-07 Fall Primetime Broadcast schedule with premiere dates. The other is the full and complete list of WB, UPN and/or Indy stations who will be switching over to MyNetwork TV or The CW this fall. The latter is courtesy of the folk at MyNetwork TV and The CW. Both are Excel spreadsheets.

Content for Lifetime on Demand will include full-length episodes of new series including Lovespring International and Cheerleader Nation, as well as the network’s archived programs such as Intimate Portrait, What Should You Do? and Speaking of Women’s Health. Other short form vignettes surrounding the new series will also be featured. In addition, Lifetime on Demand will host special Intimate Portrait episodes and featurettes to highlight Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

The partnership also returns Ken Lindner to William Morris Agency where he worked up until 1988 when he opened his own agency.
HBO has signed a three year development deal with actor James Gandolfini, wherein he will help develop original programming for the network, as well as have a first look deal at new feature projects coming down the pike from HBO’s film distribution arm, Picturehouse. Among the projects currently in development in the feature length film Hemingway, starring Gandolfini.
Fox has given a put pilot commitment to a new project called Bait from Warner Bros. TV and Jerry Bruckheimer. Bait is about a special forces unit, available for hire, who’s speciality is to bait criminals. Sounds like a souped up A-Team with Bruckheimer at the helm.
