Good morning. It’s Tuesday, August 12, 2008, and this is your first early morning briefing. Sundance Channel picked up the British comedy series Pulling and will add it to the Sunday night comedy block starting October 19 at 9p. The six-episode series is about a 29-year woman who decides on the eve of her wedding to skip getting married, opting instead to move in with her wild partying single girlfriends. The series is distributed worldwide by FremantleMedia Enterprises. The Sundance Sunday night comedy block begins September 7 at 9p with The Life and Times of Vivienne Vyle starring Jennifer Saunders and Miranda Richardson. ~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~
Taking a unique perspective on Martha Stewart is the upcoming new original series Whatever, Martha! on Fine Living Network which features Sirius Satellite Radio talk show hosts Alexis Stewart (aka Martha’s daughter) and Jennifer Koppelman Hutt. The 30m weekly series, which debuts September 16 at 9p will offer comedic commentary from Alexis and Jennifer about Martha’s appearance, what she says, and how she performs her tasks based on selected segments from the television program Martha Stewart Living. Television on-demand company TVN Entertainment Corp made a multiyear on-demand distribution deal for new movie releases with Overture Films, a division of Starz, LLC. Overture Films produces, purchases, markets and distributes movies such as The Visitor and the upcoming films Traitor, Righteous Kill and Last Chance Harvey. Spike TV brings back the all-male MANswers series for a second season starting September 17 at 11p with two consecutive new episodes. The series features trivia questions for guys with answers, such as how to escape from a straightjacket without dislocating your shoulder. IFC signed a deal with Pitchfork Media, an online independent music resource, to be the exclusive television partner for Pitchfork.tv’s live performances, interviews, documentary segments and music videos beginning August 24. IFC will air this content as 10 uncut interstitials weekly, using select episodes from such Pitchfork.tv series as Juan’s Basement, Daytripping, In the Studio and more. The interstitials will air on a new programming block called Pitchfork Airwaves on IFC. The network will also include Pitchfork content at IFC.com. Actress Salma Hayek is putting on a producer’s hat and partnering with Merv Griffin Entertainment for a wedding-themed reality series project, according to THR. The actual show format has not been revealed but it will feature a fresh storytelling take on weddings. The 60m show is currently being pitched to broadcast and cable networks. Salma will executive produce along with Roy Bank, President of Television at Merv Griffin Entertainment and Jose Tamez, producing partner with Salma and her Ventanarosa Productions. NBC is in development on a new 30m comedy called Mogulettes about twentysomething female tycoons, reports Variety. The project is written by Plum Sykes and Amy Harris and Charlie Corwin will produce. Production will be handled by Corwin’s Original Media, which has a first-look deal with NBC Entertainment, along with Universal Media Studios and Caliber Media. ABC gave its approval for a put pilot order for an updated version of The Witches of Eastwick based on a variation of the 1987 flick which was in turn based on the John Updike novel, per Variety. The story has been morphed into slightly different versions for television in the past and for many years Warner Bros. TV has wanted to develop a version for television. Maggie Friedman (Dawson’s Creek) will write the pilot. Casting Call: MTV is casting for a new reality series MissBehaving (wt) from the producers of The Apprentice and Wife Swap, and is looking for bold, out-spoken, party-hearty girls who want to be transformed into proper ladies. CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Just a month after launching, the iPhone Store has delivered more than 60 million apps, Steve Jobs told the WSJ. While most were free, Apple is bringing in an average of $1 million a day for the fee-based apps which range from $1-$10. The company is on track to make $360 million/year in revenue from the brand new division even though the company keeps just 30% of the sales, (with the remaining 70% going to the developer.)
