Good morning. It’s Thursday, September 27, 2012, and this is your first early morning briefing.

This October, The Hub will celebrate Halloween by hosting a month-long Haunted Hub with a lineup of spooky television, movies, online games and sweepstakes. The highlight of the month is the premiere of the third season of R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour: The Series on Saturday, October 13 at 6p. The half-hour anthology series premieres with the special two-part episode Grampires featuring Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future) as a grandpa with a secret. Upcoming episodes feature a wide variety of favorite kid actors in ghoulish plots. A week prior to the premiere episode of Grampires, the Haunted Hub celebration kicks off on Saturday, October 6, 4p-7p with a marathon of the scariest episodes from the first two seasons of R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour: The Series. To honor another milestone, a four-hour marathon to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Goosebumps will be on Monday, October 22, 4p-8p with the channel’s online portal (www.hubworld.com) hosting full-length episodes of Goosebumps for the first time all month. In addition to the spooky series, The Hub will also air movies: Monday, October 8, 4p EST: Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet Frankenstein, Monday, October 8, 6p: Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet the Wolfman, Friday, October 12, 9p: Gremlins, Saturday, October 13, 930p: Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Monday, October 15, 8p: Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Friday, October 19 2p: The Haunted Pumpkin of Sleepy Hollow. Sweepstakes, online games and social media activity round out the month’s highlights.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Spain’s Vodka Capital and Mexico’s Televisa Home Entertainment have entered into a strategic partnership and co-production agreement for the animated kids series Bugsted (13 x 1) along with an iOS/Android App. Televisa will premiere the series in 2013 on free-TV in Mexico. The boy targeted comedic adventure series is being developed at the same time as the app to exploit time and capital and features the adventures of wayward bugs.

LICENSING

NCircle Entertainment’s newest DVD, Dino Dan: ‘Twas A Dinosaur features a new augmented reality app for Apple iOS devices, by which a Tyrannosaurus Rex comes to life in 3D along with realistic sound effects. Sinking Ship Interactive Inc., part of Sinking Ship Entertainment, developed the app and are producers of the Dino Dan TV series (www.DinoDan.com). The app gets players to point the camera to the back of the Dino Dan: ‘Twas A Dinosaur DVD cover (which also acts as the AR marker) and watch the mighty T-Rex emerge and clicking anywhere makes the T-Rex roar.

In the UK, licensing for Emma Thomson’s Princess Pearl has entered a new phase with the launch of five new books and a new pajama line for girls. The storybooks all have an embedded pearl on the cover, which are: Princess Pearl: A Friend to Treasure, Princess Pearl: A Fashion Fairytale, Princess Pearl: A Royal Ballet and Princess Pearl: A Birthday Ball. The fifth is a pop-up book: Princess Pearl and the Underwater Kingdom and all books are published by Hodder’s Childrens. UK retailers Marks and Spencer exclusively are carrying the Princess Pearl girl’s pajama line. The tales of Princess Pearl are about an ordinary little girl who discovers a new identity in a secret and magical world under the sea.

MARKETING

Sesame Workshop (www.sesameworkshop.org), the non-profit organization behind Sesame Street, reaffirms its commitment to the United Nations Secretary-General’s Every Woman Every Child movement to mobilize and intensify global action to improve the health of women and children around the world. In support, Sesame Workshop announced the launch of their global health initiative, Healthy Children, Healthy Lives Around the World and is looking for partners globally. Sesame Workshop is aiming to improve the lives of millions of women and children by harnessing the power of educational media and the Sesame Street Muppets to promote health awareness, knowledge and positive behavior change. For the Every Woman Every Child initiative, Sesame Workshop has produced a public service announcement (PSA) featuring Kami from the South African version of Sesame Street, Takalani Sesame with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon talking about what they do to stay healthy including washing their hands before they eat and exercising. The PSA will debut around the world today. Additional activities are planned over the next several years, for at-risk communities in Latin America, Africa and Asia.

In celebration of its fifth birthday, Poptropica (http://www.poptropica.com/) is launching its 30th Island called Super Villain Island. Once on the island, players enter the dreams of four of the virtual world’s most infamous villains with the goal of changing their twisted thoughts and saving the world from evil. To help them survive and conquer these dark-world challenges, Poptropica members will get special gear, including a Night Hare costume, Sleeping Powder power and Evil Henchmen item.

MORE KIDS STUFF

In advance of MIPCOM, entertainment industry veteran Brenda Wooding has announced the launch of her new company Kid Glove, an international boutique production, distribution and rights management company focused on the development and management of intellectual properties. Kid Glove is organized into three divisions and will handle all IP previously held under the B. Wooding banner. Kid Glove Creative specializes in development and pre-production financing. Kid Glove Distribution specializes in catalog distribution. Kid Glove Consulting offers consulting services to original intellectual property owners seeking to maximize the global potential of their IPs.  Wooding’s first project under Kid Glove is Viking Kong (52 x 11), a kids 6-11 animated comedy about a group of wayward Vikings. Heather Kenyon has been recruited by Kid Glove as a lead creative consultant. A veteran production and development executive, Kenyon brings to Kid Glove an extensive background in animation. Viking Kong is created by Ministry of Animation with Wooding and Kenyon serving as executive producers.

Independent UK production and distribution company, V&S Entertainment, announces that Cbeebies has picked up a new season of the pre-school series Everything’s Rosie (26 x 11) for 2013. Produced by creator Vickie Corner, the new season will again feature Rosie, Raggles and friends and follow their day-to-day lives that pre-schoolers at home can relate to. In related news, V&S also announced a new agreement with Chello Central Europe to launch Everything’s Rosie on the Central European channel Minimax in its basic cable pay-TV package, satellite and DTT. Everything’s Rosie will be seen by viewers in Hungary, Romania, Moldova, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, and Slovenia.

Independent UK producer Zodiak Kids and Anchor Bay Entertainment has picked up the North American and UK home entertainment rights to the comedy/adventure preschool CG series Tickety Toc (52 x11′) for a Fall 2013 release. The series is produced by The Foundation (part of Zodiak Kids) and Korea-based FunnyFlux Entertainment. Zodiak Kids control all worldwide rights for Tickety Toc except in Korea and Japan.

Nelvana Enterprises and Discovery Kids Latin America have inked a deal for the broadcast of the CG-animated preschool series Mike the Knight (www.miketheknight.com). The series is co-produced by Nelvana and HIT Entertainment, a division of Fisher-Price. Mike the Knight follows a young knight-in-training on a series of quests and adventures throughout the medieval land of Glendragon. The series airs on major broadcasters in the U.S. (Nickelodeon and Nick Jr.), Canada (Treehouse), UK (Cbeebies), Australia (ABC) and France (TF1), and is set to launch in over 20 more territories in the coming months. Nelvana Enterprises represents the series for broadcast and home entertainment in Canada and France, and for broadcast in the U.S. and Latin America, while HIT Entertainment represents the property in all other territories globally.
