Sprout, the 24-hour preschool TV channel, celebrates Healthy Week on Saturday, October 13, 2012, with a return visit from Iron Chef Jose Garces to the network’s The Sunny Side Up Show, 9a-12p. Appearing in conjunction with the NBCU Healthy Week initiative, Chef Garces will share with Sprout viewers a nutritious kid-friendly recipe for arepas (the recipe will be available at www .sproutonline.com ). He will also display his artistic abilities in a craft segment with the show’s hosts Chica the Chicken and Dennisha. Additionally, all week long, beginning Monday, October 8, Sprout will be celebrating Healthy Sproutlets Week on the Sunny Side Up Show with special crafts and games all focused on healthy eating and getting active. Sprout is a partnership between NBCUniversal, PBS, Sesame Workshop and Apax Funds.

LICENSING
Focus Features distributed 3D stop-motion feature film ParaNorman, produced by Laika (Coraline), will release on 3D Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, DD, On Demand and Digital Download on November 27, 2012 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. There is a collection of bonus content for the Blu-ray and DVD releases as well as an array of exclusive cloud, mobile, app and other bonus content for the Blu-ray Combo Pack releases.
American Greetings Properties (AGP) plans to grow Care Bears further into South America with the re-signing of Exim Licensing Group to a multi-year deal as its licensing agency in the territory. AGP has also inked new Care Bears (known locally as Ursinhos Carinhosos) licensees in Brazil and Chile including: Tilibra (stationery line); JML Comercio de Presentes (dinnerware); Emoly (health and beauty line – which includes shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, nail polish and lip gloss); Libesa (notebooks in Chile).
CPLG, the licensing agent for Chapman Entertainment‘s properties, completes a deal with Signature Publishing to feature Chapman’s preschool series Raa Raa the Noisy Lion and Little Charley Bear in its new preschool magazine, Let’s Learn. The two preschool properties will appear as stand-alone issues of Let’s Learn, with Raa Raa featured in issues one and four (published in February and August) and Little Charley Bear in issues two and five (published April and October). Focused on preschool brands, Let’s Learn will include crafts and activities as well as stories and puzzles all designed to help kids learn through play.
41 Entertainment (41e) signs a number of licensees in key categories for Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures (26×22) ahead of Brand Licensing Europe, taking place in London, October 16-18, 2012, where it will be represented at the Lisle International booth. Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures TV series is slated to begin broadcast in English speaking markets in fall 2013 including on Disney XD (US), SKY (UK) and Network Ten (Australia), followed by a number of other key markets in late 2013 and spring 2014. BabyTV new HD channel launches on Singapore’s SingTel mio TV this week as part of its Family + Pack in both English and Chinese. BabyTV is a 24-hour commercial free channel that offers a range of short-form early learning programming and underscores parent/kid interaction.
Network Ten (Australia) acquires the kid-targeted action/comedy Vicky The Viking (78×11), which it plans to premiere in 2013. Currently in production, Vicky The Viking is an Australian/French co-production between ASE Studios Pty Limited and Studio 100 Animation in association with Flying Bark Productions. Based on the books by Runer Jonsson, the TV series revolves around Vicky, an ingenious little Viking with a big imagination and the ability to solve problems his clan comes up against.
CCI Entertainment and Nickelodeon UK enter into a deal for the preschool series Guess How Much I Love You The Adventures of Little Nutbrown Hare (52×11). Under the agreement, Guess How Much I Love You The Adventures of Little Nutbrown Hare, from Australia’s SLR Productions, Germany’s KI.KA and Singapore’s Scrawl Studios, will air on Nick Jr. in The UK and Ireland. Based on the popular picture book by Sam McBratney, illustrated by Anita Jeram and published by Walker Books Group, the TV series continues to air on Disney Junior (US), KI.KA (Germany), ABC4Kids (Australia), TV2 (Norway), Hop! (Israel), RTP (Portugal), Disney (Spain and Italy), ZAPP (Netherlands), TRT (Turkey), Mini Mini (Poland), VRT (Belgium) and EESTI (Estonia), TFO and TVO (both Canada) and YLE (Finland).
CBeebies (UK) acquires the fourth season of Ludorum‘s preschool series Chuggington. Comprised of 26×10 new episodes, season four of Chuggington will begin delivery from spring 2013 through to spring 2014. The agreement brings the total number of Chuggington episodes to 118×10 plus 46×4 minute interstitials. Chuggington season four is expected to debut on the on CBeebies in fall 2013. While the series currently airs in 178+ countries in 27 languages, throughout 2012 and 2013 Chuggington will launch on TV for the first time in India, China and Latin America.
PGS Entertainment finalizes sales of the 3D HD CGI series Chaplin & Co (104×6 or 26×26). Targeted to kids/families, the short-form non-verbal animated series has been acquired by RAI (Italy), CTC (Russia), MTV3 (Finland), VRT (Flemish-speaking Belgium), Cartoon Network (Japan and South-East Asia), Gloob (Brazil), Canal Once (Mexico), Minika (Turkey), Rustavi 2 (Georgia), NOGA (Israel), BNT (Bulgaria), Minimax (Eastern Europe), VIP 2000 (Ecuador), MRT (Macedonia), Ultra TV (Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia), CFI (French language Worldwide), TV5 Monde (French language worldwide), ERT (Greece), RSI (Italian-speaking Switzerland), KBSN (Korea). The series is available in 3D and has already been sold to 3D channels such as Sky Italia. Produced by Method Animation, MK2 TV, DQ Entertainment Limited, Fabrique d’Images and commissioned by France Televisions and RAI Fiction, Chaplin & Co. follows the adventures of the irrepressible Chaplin and his buddy, The Kid, as they get themselves into trouble. The show was previously sold to France Televisions (France), DR (Denmark), RTBF (French-speaking Belgium), K-Sic (Portugal), Tele-Quebec (French-speaking Canada), Rustavi 2 (Georgia), Medi 1 TV (Morocco).
Just ahead of MipJunior and Mipcom, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) completes pre-sales for Nickelodeon properties, as well as new deals and renewals for its already popular series.
- In Asia, season four of the animated series Winx Club has been acquired by KTH and Home Choice (both in Korea), Eastern Broadcasting Asia Co (Taiwan) and Global TV (Indonesia).
- In Europe, TF1 (France) signs new deals and re-licenses for SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer and Penguins of Madagascar. RTL Klub (Hungary) picks up a Nickelodeon package that includes SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer and Kung Fu Panda; and RSI (Switzerland) signs new licenses for Kung Fu Panda, Penguins of Madagascar and Fanboy and Chum Chum.
- In Scandinavia, 365 (Iceland) relicenses and adds new seasons for Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants; and RUV (Iceland) picks up The Mighty B!, Fanboy and Chum Chum, Kung Fu Panda, Bubble Guppies and Team Umizoomi. NRK (Norway) re-licenses Penguins of Madagascar; MTV3 (Finland) takes SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer, Penguins of Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda.
- In Latin America, TV Hondurena (Honduras) signs on for new episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer as part of a block deal; and Telenica (Nicaragua) completes a deal for year four of its branded block deal with new acquisitions of Dora The Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants, and Team Umizoomi, Bubble Guppies and T.U.F.F Puppy among others. Teletica (Costa Rica) and Panama’s FETV (Panama) have also signed renewal deals and new seasons of Dora The Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants.
UK indie, Platinum Films launches phase one of its new interactive website for its boy-targeted CGI animated action/adventure series Matt Hatter Chronicles website at www.matthatter.com . Designed to be an interactive extension of The Matt Hatter viewing experience, the new virtual destination features games, activities, downloads, collectables, and secret info on popular characters. Fans can also unlock hidden content around the site that allows them to capture and villains inside their own interactive Chronicles. The next phase of Platinum’s new site will include Multivision 3D animated clips, which will enable a kid’s home computer monitor to become a 3D viewing portal when they put on 3D Multivision Glasses, to experience things the way like Matt Hatter does.

EXECUTIVE MOVES
DreamWorks Animation SKG names Lincoln Wallen as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Wallen joined DreamWorks Animation in 2008 and most recently served as the studio’s Head of Animation Technology. He was previously CTO for Mobile services at Electronic Arts, and prior to that was a Professor at Oxford University, and was the first Director for the multidisciplinary Smith Institute for Industrial Mathematics and Systems Engineering. Wallen takes over the position of CTO from Ed Leonard, who is now CEO of Ptch, a new mobile app incubated at DreamWorks Animation that furthers the studio’s efforts to provide immersive entertainment experiences across platforms.
Toy manufacturer, Sun-Mate Corporation, appoints Mark Goldstein to the newly created position of VP/Sales. Goldstein will report to President, Rami Ben-Moshe. He will initially focus his energies on the retail sales efforts for The Jungle Book brand. Sun-Mate holds the design, manufacturing, and distribution rights to The Jungle Book line of toys. A 35-year consumer goods and toy industry veteran specializing in marketing and retail sales, Goldstein has worked with companies including Mego, Knickerbocker Toys and Amtoy (American Greetings). He also helped maximizing sales and marketing opportunities with retailers including Toys ‘R’ Us, Target and Wal-Mart and for global import clients, such as Shelcore, Red Box, Motormax and Sliverlit, among others.
