Atari signs an exclusive licensing deal with Hilco Brands, a unit of Hilco Trading, and joint venture partner Musterbrand, to handle Atari’s brand licensing in the US, Canada and Europe, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Hilco Brands and Musterbrand will work together to further expand and identify new opportunities for Atari into new product lines and categories including products for kids and teens, as well as adults. Previously Atari and Universal Pictures announced the development of Asteroids as a feature film, with Lorenzo DiBoneventura (Transformers) on board to produce. Globally, Atari plans include an aggressive expansion into several categories including fashion, home, lifestyle and consumer electronics by developing strategic licensing partnerships and co-branding opportunities.

LICENSING
Art Impressions completes three new licensing partnerships for its tween/teen aimed lifestyle brand So So Happy, which will see an expansion into new categories for infants and toddlers. Jem/Awake is the master apparel licensee for So So Happy new licensees include:
- Children’s Apparel Network which will develop a line of products for newborns and infants (layette, onesies, sleep and playsets and swimwear) for 2013, followed by coordinated fashion sets for girls and boys (sizes 4-6X0.
- Richard Leeds will introduce a line of cotton and fleece sleep and loungewear sets and separates for Junior and women’s departments.
- J Corp (Canada) will produce a line of kid and men’s apparel, sleepwear, underwear and swim gear for specialty and department stores. For the US, J Corp will develop a denim collection.
LeapFrog Enterprises and PBS Kids team to offer a collection of PBS Kids programming across LeapFrog’s learning platforms. Episodes of PBS Kids series such as Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Super Why!, Dinosaur Train, Wild Kratts, Arthur, Martha Speaks and Caillou are now available for purchase in the LeapFrog App Center for the learning tablets LeapPad1 and LeapPad2, and video game systems, Leapster Explorer and LeapsterGS.
Elastic Rights inks a deal with Nerd Corps Entertainment for the free TV, home video and licensing and merchandising rights for the sci-fi/action/comedy series Slugterra (39×30) in Spain, Portugal, Greece, Turkey and France. Targeted to boys 6-11, Slugterra follows the adventures of Eli Shane and his team as they explore the underground world of Slugterra. Eli, the greatest slugslinging hero ever, collects and trains an army of magical creatures called slugs – which are used to battle the evil Dr. Blakk. Slugterra premiered on Disney XD (US) on October 15. In 2013 the first Slugterra merchandising products will release in the US, including a toy line from Jakks Pacific, and the series will launch in 170+ countries.
BBC Worldwide Channels Latin America & US Hispanic‘s preschool channel CBeebies will premiere new seasons of Dime Dime and ZingZillas, on Monday, October 29, 2012, at 7a and 12n respectively. The series will air every Monday. Targeted to kids of Latin America and the US Hispanic community, CBeebies is available as part of Dish Networks’ DishLATINO package, Cablevision’s iO en espanol and Verizon FiOS TV.
Zodiak Kids signs a deal with Netflix in the Nordic region to make the first season of the preschool series Little Princess (30×11) available to Netflix subscribers. Zodiak Kids has also finalized the sale of the new season three (35×11) of Little Princess to ZDF (Germany), while SVT (Sweden) renews its agreement for seasons 1 and 2 and two specials. All three seasons (100×11) and two specials (2×22) of Little Princess were produced at The Illuminated Film Company’s studio in London. Zodiak Kids recently inked international deals for the third season of Little Princess with ABC TV (Australia), Discovery Kids Latin America, ATV (Hong Kong), DR1 (Denmark), Thai PBS, Czech TV, TVO (Canada) and RUV (Iceland). Zodiak Kids holds all international broadcast rights (excluding Japan and Korea) and all licensing and merchandising rights (excluding publishing) to Little Princess.
Call for Submissions: Cynopsis is producing a Holiday Programming Guide, which comes out November 27 and will be sent to all Cynopsis and Cynopsis Kids subscribers. If your network has holiday-themed programming airing December 1-31, 2012, please send your listings to Gwen Billings, Editor at [email protected] no later than Friday, November 16. Please include the following information: type of program (i.e. series, special, documentary, movie or holiday-themed episode), title, dates and times of all airings (please indicate when the show first premieres and when subsequent encores will air). A confirmation email will be sent following each submission from Gwen (if you don’t receive a confirmation email, please resubmit).
Pandora, a personalized radio service, brings back its annual Halloween-themed stations for listeners this month (www.pandora.com/music/halloween). This year’s stations include- Family Halloween station featuring songs that are good for kids and families such as music from The Wiggles, Kidz Bop Kids and Danny Elfman, and classics like The Monster Mash, The Addams Family theme and Ghostbusters. Halloween Party, which offers a mix of Halloween classics, Halloween-themed songs, classic Halloween and scary soundtracks, from a various genres (pop, R&B, alternative, rock and oldies) including Hungry Like the Wolf, I Put A Spell On You, The Time Warp and Ghostbusters. For those more interested in classical music and horror soundtracks there is Spooky Symphonies, featuring artists including The Kronos Quartet, Leonard Bernstein and Vienna Philharmonic performing iconic music from The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and themes from movies like Psycho, Beetlejuice, King Kong and Bram Stoker’s Dracula. For a more dark twist, Ghostly Grooves will play songs by artists including Bauhaus, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Salem, and LA Vampires.

EXECUTIVE MOVES
Disney Channels Worldwide reorganizes its Marketing/Creative and Cross-Functional teams. Marketing leaders have been named to each platform supporting Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior. Designed to more efficiently deliver and build integrated marketing and creative strategies across branded platforms, properties and digital products, the new realignment expands the responsibilities of several executives and welcomes others. The team is helped by Richard Loomis, SVP and CMO, Disney Channels Worldwide.
– In the Marketing and Creative group, which is responsible for planning, producing, marketing solutions, on-air creative and related production for Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior, Kristin Moss is named VP/Disney Junior Marketing and Creative. Moss most recently served as Chief Brand Officer and GM for The Happiest Baby, and before that was with Lions Gate Entertainment as VP/Marketing, Family Entertainment. Expanding their roles to now include off-air marketing strategy are the on-air creative team are Ron Pomerantz, who is named VP/Disney Channel Marketing and Creative and Jill Hotchkiss, who becomes VP/Disney XD Marketing and Creative.
– Cross-Functional teams have been set up to provide for the off-air design, strategic planning and analytics and marketing operations across all three networks. Robin Campbell is promoted to VP/Off-Air Design and Print Production, overseeing the development, design and production of off-air creative. Most recently, Campbell, a 14-yr Disney veteran, was Executive Director, Off-Air Design and Print Production. Frank Keating takes on a new role as VP/Marketing Strategy and Analytics, providing long-term planning that supports US and global priorities, and delivering marketing analytics and ROI metrics. Keating previously served as VP/Marketing, Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior. Veronica Davidson is named VP/Marketing Operations, heading overall departmental operations, global asset management and project and workflow management. She had been VP/On-Air Promotion Production.
Jeff Pinsker is appointed President of Klutz, a division of Scholastic, and VP/Scholastic. Pinsker, who takes on his new responsibilities this December 3, 2012, will lead the creative, sales, and marketing direction of the Klutz business and will manage the strategic development of the Klutz brand. Pinsker will report to Ellie Berger, President of the Trade Publishing division of Scholastic. Most recently, Pinsker was CEO of Infinitoy, an educational toy company that owns the rights to the construction line Zoob and launched the hand-held electronic game Quizmo. He has also written 13 books. Pinsker previously served as President and CEO of JP Kids and President of University Games.
