10/18/07

Good Morning.  It’s Thursday, October 18, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.

The CW was the first network to order a second season of a freshman series, Gossip Girl, and it is now the first network to officially cancel a freshman series – Online Nation. If you haven’t heard of it or didn’t get a chance to watch it — neither did anyone else, thus the cancellation. The Sunday night time period will be filled with reruns of Aliens in America starting this weekend.  And, lest you think this is the second cancellation of the season – not so.  Fox tabled Nashville in early September, and said it would return later in the season – not an official cancellation.

Tonight’s Premieres:
CBS:  Viva Laughlin at 10p

Tonight’s Finales:
AMC:  Mad Men at 10p
MTV:  Celebrity Rap Superstar at 10p

HALLMARK CHANNEL DELIVERS RECORD-BREAKING THIRD QUARTER

Nielsen and ESPN are collaborating to measure how consumers use media across multiple platforms including television, the internet and digital mobile devices. A new TV/Internet Covergence Panel will integrate TV and internet usage within the same home liking data from People Meters, Nielsen/NetRatings metering and Nielsen Mobile. ESPN advertisers will be able to view combined metrics such as time spent watching across multiplatform ESPN promotions.

The number of DVRs in the US has doubled in the past year exceeding 20% of the Nielsen‘s National People Meter sample for the first time. Local tune-in remains strong with the average US household watching an average of 8 hours 14 minutes of TV a day.

~  PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

The SciFi Channel has a new drama project in the works – Revolution from CBS Paramount Network TV takes the American Revolution and puts it 200 years in the future, set on a distant planet known as New America, reports THR.  The planet is looking to separate itself from the mother planet, and much like the colonists of the early 1700’s, begins a revolution.  The project is from writers Ed Redlich and John Bellucci. Production on the pilot begins first of the year.
