Comcast announced a partnership with Twitter for a feature called “See It,” to be embedded in NBCUniversal tweets starting in November, that allows customers to instantly tune in to live programming on the TV or from their smartphone or tablet. The initiative drives awareness of shows, and by boosting viewership, could drive ad revenue, too. “See It” can also be used to set a DVR or a programming reminder.

~ IN THE NEWS ~

A&E is rebranding with a new on-air look and the tagline “Be original.” “Our new tagline embodies who we are and not just what we do,” said GM and EVP of A&E Network David McKillop. “From Duck Dynasty to Bates Motel, we are 100 percent original with the most unique characters and content on television.” The new brand identity launches Wednesday, December 11 during the 10p Duck Dynasty Christmas special.

American Idol is looking for a new tagline, too – and it’s using social media to find it. Votes on Twitter and Facebook will determine the official line that will be used to promote the Fox singing competition’s 13th season, premiering in January.

CNN is launching a sports show. Unguarded with Rachel Nichols is “another key step in CNN’s evolution toward a range of compelling storytelling,” said CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker. Nichols spent nine years as a correspondent for ESPN; her new show premieres Friday, October 25 at 10:30p.

Google is providing more information to people searching for TV shows, said a Google+ post on Tuesday, like the date a show’s new season starts or when an episode airs. “Click on the episode title and you’ll see relevant results,” advised the post.

VH1 is relocating Mob Wives spin-off Miami Monkey from Sundays to Thursdays, starting tonight. The reality show follows party girl Big Ang as she opens a Miami outpost of her Staten Island bar, The Drunken Monkey. Ep airs at 10p.

Chevrolet is turning to TV to convince car shoppers to take a look at its early retool of the 2014 Malibu. The first ads in the new campaign aired during Monday’s baseball playoffs, with parents, kids and the tagline, “for the richest guys on earth.”

Fox News hired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson to provide analysis and commentary for the net. While practicing at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1987, Carson performed the only successful separation of Siamese twins joined at the back of the head.

Esquire net greenlit two specials that expand on its magazine partner’s content. Women We Love, based on the monthly mag feature, will premiere Tuesday, November 19 at 8p, coinciding with the annual Sexiest Woman Alive issue. Best Bars in America (working title), a cross-country bar crawl, explores spots featured on the magazine’s annual best-of list.

Production company Lakeshore Entertainment is creating a TV division. Chad Hoffman, from ABC and Hearst Entertainment, will lead the effort.

Broadcasters are taking their case against Aereo to the Supreme Court, sources tell Variety. With conflicting opinions in lower courts about whether to stop unauthorized digital streaming of broadcast signals, the Supreme Court could decide to step in and review the rulings.

Walt Disney Co. Chairman and CEO Bob Iger will receive the Producers Guild of America’s Milestone Award at the group’s awards ceremony on Sunday, January 19. Previous winners included Steven Spielberg and Walt Disney.

~ COMING UP ~

It’s a date: The 68th Annual Tony Awards will air Sunday, June 8, 2014, live from Radio City Music Hall, broadcast on CBS.

Fusion, the upcoming news and pop culture net geared toward young English-speaking Latinos, announced a daily program, The Morning Show, hosted by Globo journalist Pedro Andrade, Univision reporter Mariana Atencio and comedian Yannis Pappas. CEO Isaac Lee says the talker will spark “lively conversations around the latest trending topics.” Show premieres at 7a on Tuesday, October 29, one day after the net’s TV launch.

@midnight debuts on Comedy Central Monday, October 21, part of the net’s late-night block expansion. The comedy competition will air at… midnight.

~ RETURNING SHOWS ~

TV One sitcom Love That Girl! returns for season four on Friday, October 11 at 9:30p, before moving to its regular Friday 9p timeslot. “We’ve been strategically building on the success of our Friday night comedy block,” SVP Programming Strategy and Acquisitions Maureen Guthman tells Cynopsis, “and we’re excited to add Love That Girl to the mix.” But it’s not just for laughs. “Three episodes feature storylines that allowed us to craft PSAs, drawing attention to heart disease, prostate cancer and bullying specifically in the African-American community,” Guthman adds.

CMT dating show Sweet Home Alabama returns for a fourth season, with eleven city slickers and eleven country boys bunking together in Fairhope, AL as they compete for the heart of a southern belle. Series premieres Friday, November 15 at 9p.

~ CASTING ~

Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill) has joined the season two cast of digital hub Crackle‘s Chosen. The drama returns later this year.

Ashley Tisdale (High School Musical) will guest star on The Crazy Ones, reports E!. She’ll play an intern at the company run by Simon and Sydney. The CBS sitcom airs Thursdays at 9p.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT~

Fox has ordered eight episodes of comedic competition Slide Show from Steve Carell and Shine America. The format, a hit on France’s TF1, has celebs facing off in silly challenges on a tilted set. “Slide Show is the most ridiculously fun and out-there thing I’ve seen in quite a while,” said Fox Entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly.

Melissa McCarthy (Mike & Molly), her husband, Ben Falcone, and actor Larry Dorf have sold a comedy to Fox, reports Deadline. The show, to be produced by Warner Bros. TV, is about two men who become stepbrothers when their parents get married.

Fox also picked up sitcom All Business, about a rejected suitor who buys his crush’s company. Chernin Entertainment will produce the project.

Showtime is developing stalker sitcom Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, a CBS Television Studios production from writers Aline Brosh McKenna and comedian Rachel Bloom. Bloom’s pop song dedicated to sci-fi writer Ray Bradbury was a viral hit in 2010.

ABC gave a script commitment to Blackish, about an upper-middle-class man struggling to maintain his cultural identity. The show comes from ABC Family, Cinema Gypsy and Principato Young.

BBC America has greenlit Million Dollar Critic with Canada’s W Network. The caustic London Times food critic Giles Coren will render his opinion on North American restaurants for the docu-series from Temple Street, set to air in 2014.

BBC America also announced it is co-producing five natural history shows, including The Hunt, about the competition between predators and their prey from Silverback Films, and One Planet, an exploration of the environment through the eyes of the creatures that live there from BBC Natural History Unit. BBC Worldwide said it is making “a major new investment” in BBC factual content.

Networks (both Cable & Broadcast) are faced with eroding ratings and ad dollars shifting from TV to Digital. That’s why Cynopsis is presenting a conference on what networks are doing – and what they need to do more of – to aggressively evolve to compete, and profit in this shifting landscape. Join us on October 17th as our experts share the latest business and advertising models for success at the Cynopsis Future TV Summit.

~ DISTRIBUTION & CARRIAGE ~

AOL will begin offering ESPN digital programming online, including video seen on the net’s SportsCenter. ESPN will be able to sell short commercials for the clips, with AOL and ESPN sharing in the revenue.

RTL CBS Entertainment HD Channel is going to Singapore. SingTel mio TV has inked a deal to carry the channel as part of the Family+ Pack; content will include reality shows like The X Factor USA, as well as series.

Weed Wars, a four-part mini-series that premiered on Discovery Channel in 2011, is now streaming on Netflix. The docu-series examines the nation’s largest not-for-profit medical cannabis dispensary.

~ INTERNATIONAL HAPPENINGS ~

Fox International Channels will launch the fourth season premiere of hit zombie drama Walking Dead globally within 24 hours of the U.S. broadcast. In the past, the show was released within the first week. The show is FIC’s strongest performing show, ranking number one in markets including Italy, Brazil and Australia.

AMC Studios and Tricon struck a deal for Tricorn to distribute drama series The Divide outside the U.S. The show premieres on WE tv in 2014.

Scripps Networks International has lined up RV Rampage for Travel Channel in the U.K. The Tuesday’s Child series, set in New Zealand, follows couples on an “epic road trip.”
