11/08/07

Good Morning.  It’s Thursday, November 8, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.

The reverb from the striking WGA has sounded at Fox with a whole new lineup as of January 2008.  Of course, if things with the strike are resolved this again could change, but for right now, the biggest part of this story is the hit serial 24 has been put on hold.  The network doesn’t want to begin airing this series until it is sure it can finish it in a single run.  Some other highlights of the schedule revamp – Terminator: The Sarah Chronicles will premiere on January 13; Prison Break returns January 14; American Idol kicks off on January 15 and The Moment of Truth debuts on January 23.  And a new episode of House will follow the Super Bowl on February 3rd.  Catch the full schedule below.

Tonight’s Premiere:
LATV Networks: Caesar and Chuy at 930p

Over on ABC, that network has confirmed it will go forward with its 8 episodes of Lost, tho the resolution of the 8th episode cliffhanger won’t be resolved until after the writers’ strike. Additionally, the network has ordered up five episodes of Dance Machine from RDF USA.  This show is another dance competition, but without the dance professionals – just the regular folks competing. No start date yet – casting is just beginning; production set to begin first of the year.

Bravo’s season three premiere of The Real Housewives of Orange County Tuesday night (10p) attracted 1.15 million total viewers and 909,000 A18-49 viewers.

Also on Tuesday, ABC Family aired the second season finale of Lincoln Heights (8p) which drew in 1.7 million total viewers; 927,000 viewers in the 12-34 category with a 1.0 rating; and among teens it had 499,000 viewers and a 2.0 rating. In the key adult ratings, the finale delivered 428,000 viewers A18-34 wtih a 0.6 rating; and 671,000 viewers A18-49 with a 0.5 rating.

According to Rosie O’Donnell’s blog – there will be no show with MSNBC.  Per Rosie, she “let it slip in Miami” about the show, and that caused “panic on the studio end” and before you knew it, the deal evaporated.

Which reality show would Cynopsis readers most like to see make a comeback?  The Mole in a 10-1 vote (okay, hardly scientific as I mentioned the Mole in the original question).  Other shows mentioned included something with Darva Conger (the unwilling millionaire bride), Lost the reality show, Temptation island, Are You Hot?, The Amazing Race, Queen for a Day and Hit Me Baby One More Time. Another suggested he’d turn the TV off and head for the internet.  And one final suggestion – airing previously unseen pilots and give viewers a chance to vote which ones they like best.

NYC TV, the official network of the City of New York and part of the NYC Media Group, launched an online video blog, Inside Secrets that corresponds with the NYC TV-produced original series Secrets of New York which airs on PBS stations across the country. The video blog, available at www.nyc.gov/insidesecrets and for syndication across the web, will offer deleted scenes, outtakes, interviews with mystery guests, an inside perspective on the show’s special effects and more.

PIC-TV, the 10-second spot specialty firm, shifted its brand identity and changed its name to PIC Media Group. The company will still specialize in short-form commercials but with the name change it can expand into other opportunities outside of television such as broadband and mobile content. PIC Media Group sells 10-second commercials and offers game show/talk show prize fulfillment partnering with shows Live! with Regis and Kelly, Dr. Phil, Deal or No Deal, Temptation, Wheel of Fortune and more.

It’s that time of year again — or that time every few years again — when Cynopsis conducts a quick 5-question survey to find out what you think about and use this daily, how you’d like to see it improved.  Honestly, this will take less than 30 seconds, it’s completely anonymous. and we’d really appreciate your input.  Click here to participate and thank you!

Cynopsis Weekender College Edition returns on November 15th!  Deadline for college student written essays on the topic of television is November 9th and they should be sent to me at
, subject Weekender College Edition.  Top 4 essays are published in Weekender on Nov 15th, and authors are paid $350 each.  Students – be sure to include your name, age, college, college year, and major (if you know it), and how you can be contacted.

And here’s something else — all students submitting essays can also submit (free!) their Situation Wanted ad which will run in all editions for one week beginning Nov 15, and the first ten Video Resumes submitted will run on the www.cynopsis.com Video Resume page.  Check with
at Cynopsis for added info.

~  PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Casting Call: An open casting call for The CW Network’s Beauty & the Geek season five will be hosted by CW South Florida (WSFL-TV/DT) at Havana’s on The Bay, Miami next Tuesday from 5-10p. Beautiful women who are academically impaired and men 21 years or older who are socially challenged are invited to try out for the show. Information can be found at www.cwsfl.com .
