Good morning. It’s  Thursday, November  2, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing. 


The N has signed a development deal with actor/writer/rap recording artist Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, to develop and produce his first TV project, Halls of Fame.  Ludacris will serve as an executive producer on the series and he will write and perform original music for each episode, as well as appear as a recurring character.  The series follows two sisters, one a singer and the other an aspiring fashion designer, who have just moved to town and want nothing more than to attend the local performing arts high school, Halls of Fame.  The drama unfolds with the girls in their new cutthroat and demanding school as they make new friends and learn about relationships and each other.  The series will feature students attending the Philadelphia High School of Performing Arts.  Dallas Jackson, a producer with the Fox based Davis Entertainment will also serve as an executive producer on Halls of Fame.  Previously, Ludacris appeared in the movie Crash and on NBC’s Law & Order: SVU, a role he will reprise in 2007.

BabyUniverse, Inc. has entered into its a deal with Alpha Mom to include it that will see Alpha Mom programming running on, an online channel and social network.  This is BabyUniverse’s first content deal for, the latter of which is set to debut later this year.  Alpha Mom TV has distribution through Comcast Cable to approximately 10 million homes, and will soon be available in over 1.5 million Cox Cable homes.

Sandman Studios has inked a production deal with screenwriter Jeanne McKinney for a full-length animated feature film version of her animated film short City of Gold – An Eagle is Born (4 min).  The first of story in a trilogy, City of Gold – An Eagle is Born is set in 16th century Central America, and the story revolves around a teen boy who leaves his farming life to discover his own inner powers of the ‘eagle spirit’ that will help him defend his freedom.  Sandman plans to produce the movie using 3D modeling, lighting and effects, created by animators.  McKinney and Sandman are currently seeking funding capital and looking for distribution to produce this first film of the Trilogy.  City of Gold was screened at the La Femme Film Festival at the beginning of October, 2006.


Dora the Explorer is packing her bag and heading out to save Friendship Day in the new special Dora’s World Adventure (1hr) that is slated to premiere in primetime Sunday, November 19 at 8p on Nickelodeon.  The Dora’s World Adventure special is also rolling out across other platforms:  the special is currently available on DVD/VHS from Nickelodeon Home Entertainment and distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment; and on CD from Nick Records distributed by Sony BMG, respectively. Nick Jr. Video has released the first of four bilingual songs from the special, with the other three set for release each Friday leading up to its TV debut. And starting Monday, November 9, a 2-minute look at the special will be available on various wireless services and on Nick Jr. Video, and beginning Monday, November 20, additional songs from the special will become available on wireless carriers and Nick Jr. Video.

From the “if you think your family is totally strange” department … YTV is set to premiere the new animated series, Weird Years (26 episodes), Monday, November 6 at 8:30p.  Weird Years follows The Dorkovitch family as they try to adjust to day-to-day life in North America after moving from their native Kryobia.  Created by the Toronto based Grogs Inc., Weird Years is produced by Lenz Entertainment in association with Mercury Filmworks and YTV.


Debuting at #1 on the Billboard top 200 Chart is The Hannah Montana Soundtrack, released last week on Disney Records.  Featuring music from Disney Channel’s live-action series of the same name, the CD becomes the first TV soundtrack ever to be in the Billboard Top 200 chart #1 spot.  Additionally, the soundtrack earned the top position on both the Billboard Children’s Chart and the Billboard Soundtrack Chart.  The Hannah Montana Soundtrack marks the third Disney records soundtrack to break the Top 5 this year, with the other two titles being High School Musical Soundtrack and The Cheetah Girls 2 Soundtrack.

Mattel and M A C cosmetics have unveiled plans to launch a global partnership featuring Barbie and targeted to adults.  The M A C and Barbie project is slated to bow worldwide in spring 2007.


Macy’s let loose its list of the two new mega balloons, six new floats and one new Balloonicle that will join the line-up for the 80th Anniversary Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which not surprisingly will take place the morning of Thursday, November 23, 2006 at 9a, in the streets/skies of NYC, or for you at home on NBC, 9a-12p.

MTV Networks has tapped Atom Entertainment’s former CEO and founder, Mika Salmi to serve as its President/Global Digital Media.  He will report directly to Judy McGrath, Chairman/CEO, MTVN, and will become a member of her Sr. strategy team.  Salmi will head up MTVN’s multiplatform brands to further develop and implement its strategy for multi-genre interactive network for its target audiences.  MTVN acquired Atom Entertainment in August of this year.  MTVN’s previous head of digital technology, Jason Hirschhorn, exited the company this past spring.

Sara Stern Levin has been appointed VP/Corporate Communications, 4Kids Entertainment.  Levin was previously Director/Communications, Nickelodeon & Viacom Consumer Products.  Previously, she handled marketing and communications for New Line Cinema’s consumer products group.
