Good morning. It’s Thursday, November 21, 2013, and this is your first early morning digital briefing.

NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS

A Netflix and cable marriage may not be so far fetched after all; at least Time Warner Cable thinks so. At the 13th annual Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference in Barcelona, TWC CFO Artie Minson hinted that bringing Netflix into their set-top-boxes was a definite option. Last month Comcast was said to be in a similar discussion with Netflix, which fizzled out.

Speaking of Comcast, the company has created a new TV and movie streaming store that enables U.S. Xfinity TV customers to watch any purchased titles on mobile, TV, and PC devices. Customers can also download the movies and TV episodes to watch without an internet connection, or on their Xfinity On Demand Purchases app. Comcast plans to bring Hulu titles to the service.

DirecTV has expanded its web video streaming service to allow subscribers to watch more than 30 live channels outside of the home. HBO, Showtime and Bloomberg TV, among others, will be available through DirecTV’s TV Everywhere app for iOS devices starting today. DirecTV also plans to re-launch the app for Android tablet.

Tune Core, the digital music distributor, has signed a deal with YouTube’s largest music network, INDMUSIC, to better monetize its artists’ music on YouTube. INDMusic will administer the master recording rights on YouTube for TuneCore’s library.

CONTENT MEDIA

Hulu announced yesterday that it has picked up a second season of its original Behind The Mask. The docu-series follows four sports mascots and the people wearing the costumes; the new season returns in 2014.

Yesterday, MTV launched a new artist and fan multi-platform campaign called All Access, debuting with Britney Spears. MTV Presents: Up Close and Personal With Britney Jean will feature video messages from Spears encouraging fans to enter on MTV.com for a chance to win a trip to see her in concert in Las Vegas.

Yahoo unveiled its new Yahoo Image Ads, to be used in slideshows and multimedia pages. Yahoo compares the digital ad quality to full-page high definition magazine ads. They’ll be incorporated across Yahoo Sports, omg!, Yahoo Music and Yahoo TV. FIAT, Sony and Relativity Media are already using them.

Voice navigation app Waze released its first celebrity voice navigation from The Real Husbands of Hollywood’s Kevin Hart. Waze also documented behind-the-scenes footage of Hart recording the directions, which can be viewed at Waze’s YouTube Channel.
