Disney Channel reaches for parents as it launches a Disney Junior Facebook page this week. Designed specifically to reach Moms of K2-7, the new Disney Junior page begins its efforts to familiarize and attract parents with the new Disney Junior brand by inviting Facebook fans to vote on a series of eight new ads that will help define the Disney Junior image campaign. The ad that is selected will run in the year-end double issue of People Magazine, which hits stands mid-December. Disney Junior Facebook page will also feature First Look Fridays, during which it will offer new sneak peek exclusives of new content that will be featured on Disney Junior. Disney Channel will launch the new Disney Junior multiplatform brand in February 2011, debuting content on the network, in place of its Playschool Disney programming block, as well as a new website, VOD, mobile and paid download platforms. The new Disney Junior 24/7 basic cable and satellite channels debut in the UK in 2012, taking over channel space currently held by Soapnet channel. Cookie Jar Entertainment begins production on live-action portion of its new mixed live-action/animated series Mudpit, which will air in Canada on Teletoon English and Teletoon French in fall 2011, at Toronto’s CBC studio 40. Canada’s Guru Studio has already begin production on the CGI animation for the series. The live-action portion of the series follows an ensemble cast of teens in their regular real world lives and their rock band, Mudpit, while the animated portion follows the group as avatars in a video game going up against various gaming challenges and online battles of the bands in the virtual world of Muzika. The cast includes Jesse Rath (18 To Life), Carleigh Beverly (Connor Undercover, Rookie Blue, Who is Clark Rockefeller), Vas Saranga (Aaron Stone, Unnatural History), and Daniel Magder (Life with Derek, Vanished Without A Trace, Angel Eyes). Mudpit was created by Jamie Waese (Gotta Catch Santa Claus), and Bruce Kalish (Aaron Stone, The Famous Jett Jackson, Mork & Mindy) serves as Executive Producer/Showrunner. The Hub will launch its new original animated series Transformers Prime, produced by Hasbro Studios, with a five-part mini series Monday-Friday, November 29-December 3, 6:30p. The network will support the Transformers Prime on-air event over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend with the first two episodes of the series and other Transformers-centric programming on Friday, November 26. The weeklong run will include three additional new episodes of the series on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, December 1-3. Programming for Friday, November 26:
In other series premiere news, The Hub will launch to other original series, R.L. Stine’s The Haunting: The Series, debuts with two back-to-back episodes on Saturday, December 25 at 8p and 8:30p, and the animated series Dan Vs., also with back-to-back episodes on Saturday, January 1, 2011, at 7p and 7:30p. R.L. Stine’s The Haunting: The Series is produced by Haunting Hour Productions, with Dan Angel, Billy Brown, Harvey Kahn and Kim Arnott serving as Executive Producers. Dan Vs. is produced by Film Roman in association with The Hatchery. Executive Producers on the series are Dan Angel and Jay Fukuto. A Walk in My Shoes, the third made-for-TV movie under the Procter & Gamble and Walmart Family Movie Night partnership, will premiere Friday, December 3, 2010 at 8p on NBC. Starring Nancy Travis, Philip Winchester and Yara Martinez, A Walk in My Shoes also features a soundtrack produced by Randy Jackson. A Walk in My Shoes (www.awalkinmyshoes.com ) DVD and soundtrack will be sold together in a bonus pack exclusively at Walmart from Saturday, December 4. Boomerang will air the Hanna-Barbera animated holiday special, The Thanksgiving That Almost Wasn’t (30-minutes) on Thanksgiving Day, November 25 at 10a, and again at 7p. The special, which originally premiere on Thanksgiving Day 1972, features the voices of June Foray (Looney Tunes, Rocky and Bullwinkle) and Don Messick (Scooby-Doo, The Jetsons). Astral‘s Playhouse Disney (Canada) will premiere the new preschool animated series Stella and Sam on January 9, 2011 at 10:30a. Based on the books by author/illustrator Marie-Louise Gay and produced by Radical Sheep Productions the series follows the backyard adventures of Sam (4) and his big sister Stella. Additionally, zinc Roe partners with Radical Sheep to develop the Stella and Sam-branded interactive microsite for PlayhouseDisney.ca (www.playhousedisney.ca) in English and French, which will launch simultaneous to the series TV debut. The microsite will feature interactive adventures for kids and their families. The adventures will also be available via the iTunes app sore. Nova Development, the consumer unit of Avanquest Software, and Hit Entertainment team for this week’s release of Thomas & Friends Misty Island Rescue. Featuring characters from the Thomas & Friends series and based on the DVD movie Thomas & Friends Misty Island, this multi-level game and learning software features preschool-targeted lessons that focus on aspects of social development including friendship, fair play, and teamwork in addition to basic early learning skills such as for math, matching and memory. Dos y Dos, the live-action bilingual preschool musical TV series, gets its first license deal, as 4Kids Entertainment and The Latin American Multimedia Corporation (LAMC) inks a license deal with Trevco Sportswear. Under the agreement, Trevco Sportswear has the rights to produce Dos y Dos T-shirts for adults/youth/infants/toddlers in the US. Dos y Dos is currently airing everyday on Sorpresa Network in the US; it originally launched on LATV Network in 2009. The series is also airing on Telemundo (Puerto Rico) and is set to debut in Peru, Paraguay, Bolivia and Colombia by January. Richard Scarry and Borders head into the holiday season together. The Cookie Jar Group, parent of Copyright Promotions Licensing Group, and Random House are partnering with Borders to offer exclusive Busytown products for the holidays. Beginning this month, Borders stores nationwide will feature a exclusive collection of products including Richard Scarry tales, Super Stupendous Storie, published by Random House, a Richard Scarry small beanie plush assortment and large Huckle Cat plush from The Bridge, and a boxed board book set from Five Mile Press. Examville (www.examville.com), an online education marketplace, launches its e-commerce personalized teacher/tutor storefront pages. Designed to connected educators and students online, the personalized profile pages are likened to those on sites like eBay and Amazon, which smaller sellers to establish their business. On Examville, teachers can now set up their own online education store with a unique URL at no charge. From that page, they can connect with students/parents worldwide and offer virtual classes, online tutoring and instruction materials (for a fee). As an open platform, Examville profile pages can also be leveraged by third-party service providers, including test prep and tutoring companies, publishers, corporations among others.
