Good morning. It’s Thursday, November 15, 2012, and this is your first early morning briefing.

Nickelodeon‘s comedy iCarly will come to an end this month with a special hour-long series finale, iGoodbye, on Friday, November 23, at 8p. The special features an appearance by Carly’s dad, an Air Force Colonel, who has previously been mentioned but never seen on the series as he has been stationed overseas. Nickelodeon will support iGoodbye across multiple platforms including featuring highlights from the episode on Nick.com, where fans will also find exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, trailers, and photo galleries. The special will be available for purchase in HD via iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Xbox Video, PlayStation Store and Vudu, beginning Saturday, November 24. The series will continue in reruns on Nickelodeon platforms moving forward. Over at iCarly.com, fans will find the new game, The Epic iCarly Game, featuring a level of play for each iCarly character from Monday, November 19, as well as offering previously unseen webisodes. For the ultimate iCarly fans – they will have a chance to win items from the series set at www.nick.com/icarly. Then, beginning Monday, November 26, iCarly: The Complete Series, will be available for purchase and download on iTunes for the first time. iCarly was created and is executive produced by Dan Schneider (Victorious, Zoey 101, Drake & Josh, and the upcoming pilots Sam & Cat and Gibby).

Creating one of the largest indie kid’s mobile app companies, app developer Night & Day Studios joins with NY-based mobile software company ScrollMotion. Under the partnership, Night & Day Studios is the exclusive kid’s media licensee of ScrollMotion’s interactive app development platform and is adding ScrollMotion’s portfolio of 800+ kids’ apps. Meanwhile, ScrollMotion is also taking a stake in Night & Day. ScrollMotion’s licensing and partner brand portfolio includes Warner Bros. Consumer Products Global Publishing (Scooby-Doo, Superman, Batman, DC Super Friends, Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, and other properties), Sesame Street, Arthur and other works of Marc Brown, Thomas & Friends, and VeggieTales, among others. Night & Day’s proprietary IP collection features Peekaboo Barn and the Peekaboo series, and licenses for The World of Eric Carle, Caillou, Richard Scarry’s Busytown, Charley Harper, and Ed Emberley. Additionally, Night & Day Studios will take over support and marketing of existing ScrollMotion kid-targeted apps and produce a new, exciting roster of apps for all partner brands. Sara Berliner, VP/Business Development, ScrollMotion, who spearheaded its kid’s and entertainment division, joins Night & Day Studios effective November 26 in the newly created position of Chief Revenue Officer. Berliner, who will be based in NYC and will open the Manhattan office, will report to CEO and Founder, Nat Sims. By the end of 2012 Night & Day Studios expects to release 20 new iOS and Android app titles, and 50+ new apps in 2013. The new year will also see the company open a full-time agency division, introduce and grow three original kids’ brands, and seek licensing partnerships for Night & Day’s original IP.

LICENSING

Mind Candy, the folks behind Moshi Monsters, appoints US-based Schylling Toys as the North American distributer for Moshi Minster toys. Beginning in 2013, Schylling will distribute Moshi Monster products across the US and Canada to specialty toy and gift channels, with toy manufacturer Vivid handling mass and mid-tier retail chains. Schylling introduces three new Moshi Monster toy assortments this week at the Chicago Toy & Game Fair (November 14-18) at Navy Pier, including new products from Vivid Toys for K4+, Moshi Monsters 5-Pack, 8-pack collectible character assortments and Moshi Monsters Foil Fun Packs, which features two Moshlings, a collector card and mystery code.

MARKETING

The Jim Henson Company and restaurant chain Applebee’s team for a family aimed seven-week promotion featuring the PBS Kids series Dinosaur Train (www.pbskids.org/dinosaurtrain). The new promotional partnership will see Henson’s Dinosaur Train featured in 5-6 million Applebee’s kids’ menu booklets at upwards of 1,900 US locations, now through December 30, 2012. The booklets will include Dinosaur Train themed activities and artwork. The Dinosaur Train promotional will also be promoted at www.applebees.com website. Created by Craig Bartlett, Dinosaur Train is produced by The Jim Henson Company and co-produced with Singapore-based animation company, Sparky Animation, with participation and assistance of the Singapore Media Development Authority. U.K. production and financial support is provided by Ingenious Media.

Amtrak, Anchor Bay Entertainment and Ludorum partner for a new cross-promotion based on Ludorum’s preschool-targeted CGI animated TV series Chuggington (www.amtrak.com/chuggington). The promotion dove tails with Anchor Bay’s recent Chuggington DVD title, Icy Escapades. Under the deal, Amtrak will feature Chuggington on its website and 100+ Amtrak train stations nationwide throughout November. Participating Amtrak train stations will feature Chuggington counter cards, mini seatback posters and a Traffic Safety activity booklet from Ludorum. Long Distance trains will feature special Chuggington placemats. Some of the more visited stations will display larger-than-life overhead banners in support of the promotion. Banner ads highlighting the partnership also will appear on the website Chuggington with an Amtrak webpage dedicated to the promotion and reciprocal links. Additionally, Anchor Bay will include a full-page color ad showcasing the partnership in the packaging of all Icy Escapades DVDs, and Amtrak will feature the promotion directly with its 500,000 email subscribers, while Ludorum will flag the program through social media platforms. In the US, Chuggington can be seen weekdays on Disney Channel’s Disney Junior programming block and daily on the new Disney Junior cable and satellite channel

MORE KIDS STUFF

Mackenzie Foy, the 12-year-old who stars as Bella and Edward’s daughter in the new movie The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, will also star in a new episode of The Hub‘s series R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour: The Series, which premieres this Saturday, November 17 at 6p. In the episode, entitled Red Eye, Foy plays Georgia, who looks forward to receiving regular postcards from her ever-traveling dad. However, this time things get complicated when Georgia finds that someone (or is it something) is following her dad on his current trip around the world. Saturday also features new episodes of Dan Vs. (4p) and Littlest Pet Shop (11:30a).

Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment (GVE) expands its digital distribution license deal with DHX Media. Under the new three-year deal, GVE will continue to have digital distribution rights to 33 kid/family targeted properties in the DHX Media library, and will add 29 new properties to the slate, which will be released in the US. Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment will release a range of family-aimed TV programming, including titles such as Inspector Gadget, Super Mario Bros., Madeline, Strawberry Shortcake, and Paddington Bear, among others.

In other DHX Media news, PBS Kids acquires a fourth season of the animated preschool series Caillou (26 episodes) from DHX Media.

Skyreader Media (www.skyreadermedia.com), a developer/publisher of interactive kid’s book apps, unveils the open beta launch of its new proprietary self-publishing platform, Skyreader Studio. Skyreader Studio offers a set of self-publishing tools to create interactive eBooks and supports all major eBook devices and formats. Skyreader Studio is slated to launch in full in Q1 2013.

EXECUTIVE MOVES

Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Company (HE&R) appoints William F. Simpson, Jr., as its new CEO. Simpson will take over the reins from current CEO, Ted Kleisner, who will retire at the end of this year. Simpson joined HE&R in 1996 as the GM of Hershey Lodge and Convention Center (now Hershey Lodge), and in April 2002, he became VP/Entertainment Group overseeing the operation of Hersheypark Entertainment Complex. In April 2010, Simpson was upped to COO, and eventually named President in November 2010. He was appointed to the company’s Board of Directors in 2011. Prior to joining Hershey Entertainment & Resorts, Simpson was GM of the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Houston, Texas. He also previously held leadership positions with the Williamsburg Inn, The Opryland Hotel and Hyatt Hotels Corporation.
