MTV has reorganized its programming department under Tony DiSanto, and the result is four execs are leaving including EVP/Talent and Series Rod Aissa.  The department will be regrouped into three teams:  reality and scripted under Liz Gateley; production overseen by Chris Linn; and scheduling, distribution and new media.  No name attached as yet to oversee the third dept.

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Discovery Channel will launch a new series that takes an up-close look at some of the tallest and biggest construction projects in the world when Build It Bigger debuts July 10 at 10p. Hosted by professional architect Danny Forster and despite his fear of heights, he will examine unique construction projects worldwide such as skyscrapers, ships and a rollercoaster. The series, produced by Powderhouse Productions, will also have a fansite at discovery.com/builditbigger starting June 25 to give viewers a chance to interact with Danny, submit questions and to read his travel blog entries.

CMT has the next celebrity daredevil reality series as the network premieres Ty Murray’s Celebrity Bull Riding Challenge on August 10 at 9p. Nine celebrities including Leif Garrett, Stephen Baldwin and Vanilla Ice will travel to Texas to learn how to control a bucking bronco during this six-episode series produced by Mess Media. 

News Corp. and NBC Universal‘s “new site” joint venture added Fuel TV, Speed, Oxygen, Sundance Channel and TV Guide Broadband to its content provider/distribution partner roster. New site will feature shows such as The Bad Girls Club, Big Ideas for a Small Planet and America’s Next Producer as well as syndicate them across its network of affiliated sites including AOL, MSN, Yahoo and MySpace.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

As expected, Fred Thompson has officially pulled out of Law & Order‘s upcoming season, in the role of District Attorney Arthur Branch.  Thompson has  been with the show for five seasons, and while it is also suspected he plans to run for President of the United States, that formal announcement has not yet come.

Casting Call: FOX will host casting calls for a new crop of elementary students to appear on its quiz show Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? The first casting call for kids is this Saturday in Chicago on the Navy Pier; followed by June 5 in Atlanta at America’s Mart; June 8 in Las Vegas at The Renaissance Hotel; June 12 in Los Angeles at Sheraton Universal Hotel; and June 16 in New York at The Javits Center. ~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Kellie Grutko has been upgraded to VP/Marketing at Comcast Spotlight, the advertising sales unit of Comcast Cable based in New York. Kellie will handle marketing areas such as advertising, field marketing, sports marketing, promotional sponsorships, creative services and public affairs. She will continue to report to Vicki Lins, VP/Marketing and Communications, Comcast Spotlight.

Film Movement, the North American film distribution company that represents first-run independent and foreign films, has added Rebeca Conget to the new position of VP/Theatrical Distribution. Rebeca is charged with expanding and managing the company’s new Theatrical Division where she will report to Adley Gartenstein, President.

Mediaedge:cia has several new staffing changes:

  • Nathalie Alfred has been advanced to Director/Corporate Communications Global and will lead internal and external corporate communications worldwide, effective immediately. She will report directly to Charles Courtier, Global CEO.
  • Diane Librizzi and Edwin Camacho have been hired for MEC Bravo as Partner/Account Director and Account Manager, respectively. As Hispanic advertising specialists they will manage such accounts as Macy’s and Berlex as well as new business opportunities, and Librizzi will handle the Payless client. Based in New York, they will report to Gonzalo Del Fa, Managing Director, MEC Bravo.

Chanon Cook has been promoted to VP/Programming Research for Comedy Central and AtomFilms, both units of MTV Network’s new Entertainment Group. In this new position, Chanon will advance programming and handle brand development for both entities as well as produce research to guide creative efforts. She will report to Tanya Giles, SVP/Research, Entertainment Group based in New York.

Fox Sports International (FSI) has upped Frank Uddo to VP/Programming and Acquisitions for three networks: Fox Soccer Channel, Fox Sports en Español and Fox Sports Latin America. Frank will supervise the daily operations of FSI’s programming division that encompasses scheduling and VOD as well as acquisitions for the networks. He will continue to report to Dermot McQuarrie, Assistant GM/SVP Programming and Production. Additionally, FSI has moved up Marvin Zepeda to Director/Programming for Fox Sports Latin America, Northern Cone and has named Joshua Glassel to Programming Director for Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Sports en Español. Both will report to Frank Uddo.

LAIKA, Inc. has tapped Cynthia Barton Rabe as VP/CMO, Entertainment Division to oversee all marketing facets for the division. She will also be a member of the company’s senior management team and will assist with overall corporate strategy and plans. She will report directly to Dale Wahl, CEO/President.

TUESDAY – A18-49 Analysis:  FOX was the leader Tuesday night with 4.2/12 A18-49, according to fast affiliate ratings from Nielsen Media Research. During this first primetime hour, FOX premiered On the Lot Results Show which ranked fourth overall with 1.8/6. FOX then advanced well ahead of the pack during 9p with the season finale of House at 6.5/17. ABC had a turn in the winner’s seat at 10p with a 2.8/8 for the season finale of Boston Legal.
