Cynopsis: Kids!
03/15/12

Good morning. It’s Thursday, March 15, 2012, and this your first early morning briefing.

Nickelodeon stepped into the spotlight last night hosting its annual upfront event at Jazz at Lincoln Center in NYC to present its programming slate for the 2012-13 season. Nickelodeon’s plans include 650 new series episodes, more than it has ever produced for a season, for both new series and TV movies (some previously announced) and returning series. Cyma Zarghami, President/Nickelodeon Group, began the evening by offering a brief “State of the Union” stating that Nickelodeon is in “fantastic shape” and that it planned to continue to be the number one cable channel for kids. In addition to Nickelodeon showcasing its new series and TV movies, and lots of its talent, the upfront included an appearance by movie director/producer Michael Bay (Transformers, Pearl Harbor, Armageddon, Bad Boys) was on hand to offer an exclusive look at a “previsualization (3D storyboard)” of the upcoming Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Pictures‘ live-action Ninja Turtles feature film, which is set for release in 2013, about a year after the new CG animate TMNT series debuts on the network this fall 2012. Bay, who will produce the project, explained it will be a live-action event movie and the team aims to make kids believe that these turtles really do exist  and that they will be tough, edgy, funny and completely loveable. Nickelodeon also confirmed the new animated SpongeBob SquarePants movie for 2014. The network also announced that it is developing ideas for the popular UK boy band One Direction, which recently appeared on iCarly and was the opening act on the Big Time Rush tour. Rachel Crow (14) of X Factor fame who recently inked a deal with Nickelodeon, concluded the event by singing Cee Lo Green’s Forget You. New TV series, TV movies and special events featured at the primarily Nickelodeon channel focused 2012/13 upfront include:
