Coming Monday, March 19, 2007, Cynopsis will launch a new daily edition – Cyn opsis: Digital . The edition will focus on the business of digital and broadband as it relates to the television industry and beyond. Not only will it be a daily email that arrives in your inbox by around 4am each morning, it will also be presented as a daily podcast, featuring the dulcet tones of our own David Lawrence (also the voice behind the CynKids daily podcast). This new daily will be written by Wayne Karrfalt, Editor of Cyn opsis: Digital , who can be reached at [email protected]. In the meantime, here’s a small bit of the Broadband & Digital news for today taken from the pages of Cyn: Digital ….
The rumors appear to be true. Fox Interactive Media is launching MySpace News, a news/social networking hybrid site that aggregates real-time news and blogs from around the web. It allows users to create their own news portal they can engage and interact with throughout the day. Readers can rate, comment on and upload stories they find interesting or even stories they have authored. FIM figures it improves stickiness, as MySpace users won’t have to leave the site to check out the latest gossip from elsewhere. Wired.com obtained a PowerPoint of the project Fox is showing to advertisers, highlighting four price-points under 22 different news categories.
Entertainment tabloid site TMZ.com is branching out from Hollywood to Washington D.C. to launch the spin-off site TMZDC, according to The Washington Post. The company, a joint venture between AOL and the Telepictures division of Warner Bros., has been combing the D.C. area in search of a bureau chief to help build a network of freelancers to supply the site with juicy content. TMZ.com has been a runaway success since launching 16 months ago, spawning a syndicated magazine show and drawing over 8 million visitors last month. TMZ, the daily series from Telepictures, is scheduled to launch on stations across the US this fall.
NBC Universal expanded a deal with mobile video provider MobiTV to stream full-length shows such as Heroes, The Office and Battlestar Galactica to the service. NBCU has provided short form clips to MobiTV from 2003 as part of a subscription add-on for carriers such as Sprint. The new deal will be for a la carte episodes on demand, for the going rate of $1.99 for a 24-hour period. NBC will also produce five ad-supported channels for MoviTV with clips from Bravo, Sci Fi, USA, Telemundo and mun2, in addition to the existing CNBC and MSNBC channels already in place.
