A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM ABC KIDS NETWORKS
BIG PICTURE THINKING: KIDS IN FOCUS
ABC KIDS NETWORKS Reaching 29.5 million kids aged 2-11!* *Source: Nielsen Media Research (NPower) 1/05. CYNTHIA TURNER’S
Good morning. It’s Thursday, March 10, 2005, and this is your first early morning briefing. Tonight’s Premiere: Showtime‘s Fat Actress debuted on Monday night at 10p, earning the distinction as network’s highest rated premiere in five years (last biggie was Queer as Folk in 2000) with 924,000 total viewers, representing a 4.2 HH coverage rating in Showtime homes. The 11p airing delivered 400,000 viewers. While the net’s policy is not to provide ratings (premium channel, not advertiser supported), they did say the primary audience was Women 35+, and M35-49 was the secondary audience. The new season of Deadwood premiered on Sunday night on HBO to the tune of 2.8 million viewers, down from last season’s debut with 5.8 million viewers. Carnivale followed with 1.96 million viewers. USA Network has signed Saab Cars as the sole sponsor of the documentary Ring of Fire: The Emile Griffith Story, per Variety. The doc will be shown without commercial interruption, and Saab will have an opening spot and a closing spot. Ring of Fire was presented at Sundance Film Festival and it spotlights the 1962 boxing incident where Emile Griffith met Kid Paret in the ring, and killed him. Ring of Fire was directed by Dan Klores and Ron Berger. * NEW ORDERS / DEVELOPMENT / PRODUCTION *
VH1 has ordered up additional seasons of The Surreal Life (10 eps), Celebrity Fit Club (8 eps) and Best Week Ever. The net has also ordered additional episodes of Motormouth (20 new eps) and The Fabulous Life (10 new eps). And scheduled to kick off in in 2005 are three new series to VH1, per Variety:
Paramount Network TV has signed a two year development deal with Alan Kirschenbaum to develop to new projects for the studio. Kirschenbaum currently is the exec prod and co-creator of Yes Dear (CBS) and will continue to oversee that project. * CASTING UPDATES *

The Weather Channel will be 23 years old this May, and it took 22 years before it produced its first primetime original series – Storm Stories. At the network’s upfront last evening in NYC, TWC announced the return of Storm Stories with a handful of themed weeks, plus three other original undertakings.
The net will also launch a new logo and tag line this summer, to coincide with the start of Weekend View. The new tag is Bringing Weather to Life. The new logo will no longer represent a small screen TV set with soft letters, but one that more resembles an open window, hard chined with bold lettering. The difference may appear slight a first, but the look is wholly updated and refreshing, and designed to be easily seen and read on small screens (i.e., cell phones). The new campaign was developed by Lambie Nairn of London. Top 10 M-F Syndicated Strip Series for the week of February 21-27, 2005 ranked by HH Rtg Top 10 M-F Syndicated Strip Series for the week of February 21-27, 2005 ranked by A18-49 Intermedia Advertising Group’s Top Ten Most Recalled New Ads and Top Ten Most Liked New Ads for new campaigns airing during the month of February (1/31/05-2/27/05). The list is ranked by viewers’ ability to recall the new ads (or how much they like them) and their associated products and brands. The Recall Score is the percentage of TV viewers who can recall within 24 hours the brand of an ad they were exposed to during the normal course of viewing TV. The Likeability Score is the percentage of TV viewers who report to like “a lot” an ad they were exposed to during the normal course of viewing TV (among those recalling the brand of the ad). The scores are then indexed against the mean score for all ads during the time period to create the Recall Index; 100 is Average. For example, with a Recall Index of 233, the top-ranked Blockbuster spot was more than twice as memorable as the average new ad during the four week period. Rainbow Media Holdings LLC has named Matthew Frankel to VP/Corporate Communications. He will be directing business press and trade relations for Rainbow and each of its entertainment brands (AMC, IFC, WE: Women’s Entertainment), along with overseeing the Company’s industry relations and public affairs work. Matthew reports to Ellen Kroner, SVP/Corporate Communications and Marketing. Jim Dowd has been upped to Director/NBC Entertainment Publicity. Having served as a Senior Press Manager since joining NBC in November 2002, Jim will continue to report to Cameron Blanchard, VP/NBC Entertainment Publicity, East Coast. His expanded role will also include overseeing the summer series I Want to Be a Hilton, Apprentice: Martha Stewart and the upcoming drama pilot NY 70. Frank Sesno, former Washington Bureau Chief for CNN, will return to the network as a special correspondent. Frank had been with the network for 17 years before leaving in 2001. What few people know is Frank’s news career really started back in high school where he did the morning news announcements. While his irreverent humor often included poking a little fun at school staff and administrators had a strong student following, it was only mildly tolerated by the principal. Bob DeBitetto has been upped to EVP/Programming at A&E, reporting to Abbe Raven, President. He will continue to oversee all of A&E’s programming and acquisitions as well as its upcoming Crime & Investigation Network. * RATINGS *
