Good morning, it’s Thursday, June 21, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.
Our headline news — the arrival of the most exquisite Halle Anne Root, the 7 lb 12 oz daughter of Marilee and Gary Root and granddaughter of me, who made her debut at 7:48pm last evening. The whole family is happy, healthy and perfect.
Elsewhere in the world — The upfront season for the broadcast appears to be winding down and some of the totals and percent increases being bandied about include: ABC finishing ahead of last year by 5% at $2.4 billion with rate increase of 8%-10%. Fox saw increases in the 7%-10% range, and is expected to finish with $1.8 billion. As did ABC, CBS is expected to finish ahead of last year by about 5% with a total of $2.5 billion in upfront ad sales, with rate increases in the 5%-8% range. NBC is still wrapping up, but will reportedly bring in about $1.8 to $1.9 billion, with rate increases in the area of 5% to 6%. The CW is still in the works and no numbers are coming from that camp as yet. Last year this newly formed hybrid network brought in approx $600 million in upfront sales commitments.
Tonight’s Premieres:
CNBC: American Greed at 10p and 1a
Sundance Channel: Live from Abbey Road at 10p
