Eighth and final season of Entourage kicks off on HBO July 24 at 1030p.  The comedy series returns with eight all-new episodes. 

A sophomore season granted to Breakout Kings on A&E Network for a 2012 premiere.  The original drama series averaged around 2.2 million total viewers for A&E in its first run. 

Builders of aquariums and fish tanks for celebrities, luxury hotels and more, Wayde King and Brett Raymer are featured in the new reality series Tanked, opening August 19 at 10p on Animal Planet.  The six-part series is set in Las Vegas, home to Acrylic Tank Manufacturing, where owners Wayde and Brett, who are also brothers-in-law, best friends, pranksters and rivals, work to create the most outrageous aquariums.  Their team also includes Wayde’s wife and Brett’s sister, Heather; Brett and Heather’s father, “The General” and a varied team of designers, engineers, installers, cleaners and builders.  Tanked is produced for Animal Planet by Nancy Glass Productions. 

In more news from Animal Planet, the network approved a six-episode second season of My Cat From Hell.  After the success of its three-part miniseries airing in the spring, Animal Planet committed to a one-hour series scheduled to launch in the first half of 2012 as part of the network’s Saturday night pet programming block.  3 Ball Productions is behind My Cat From Hell starring Jackson Galaxy, a cat behaviorist who works with frustrated owners and their felines.

Dating-themed reality series The Ultimate Merger back on TV One for a second season beginning August 4 at 9p.  In this fresh season, fashion model/TV personality Toccara searches for her perfect mate among a group of 14 confident bachelors.  The eight-episode series was created by Donald J. Trump and Andy Litinsky, President, Trump Productions and is produced by Trump Productions LLC and Juma Entertainment. 

Former teen stars of comedy series Sister, Sister and real-life sisters, Tia Mowry Hardrict and Tamera Mowry-Housley, star in their own docu-series on Style Network.  The series, Tia & Tamera follows the duo, now in their 30s, as they each take on new life challenges  Tia, becoming a first-time mother and Tamera, getting married.  Produced by Good Clean Fun, Tia & Tamera debuts August 8 at 9p on Style.

Hair-raising creations and fantasy hair art are highlighted when a second season of Hair Battle Spectacular debuts on Oxygen August 15 at 10p.  Actor/model/TV personality Eva Marcille hosts the new season of the hair design competition series pitting eleven of America’s most talented stylists against each other.  Hair Battle Spectacular is a production of 3 Ball Productions/Eyeworks USA.

Next Monday, the third season of original reality series Quiero Mi Boda premieres on Tr3s: MTV, Musica y Mas at 7p.  The series follows real-life cross-cultural couples, from Nigeria and Mexico to Canada and the Dominic Republic as they face head-on their cultural differences before they walk down the aisle.  Subsequent episodes continue on Mondays at 7p. 

SCIENCE offers a four-part series this summer exploring the endless questions and mysteries of the universe led by physicist, Professor Brian Cox.  Wonders of the Universe bows July 27 at 9p and expands on the network’s 2010 Peabody Award-winning Wonders of the Solar System, airing its four episodes over consecutive weeks.  The series is produced for SCIENCE by the BBC.

Despite the controversy surrounding the Casey Anthony verdict announcement on Tuesday, or perhaps because of it, HLN tallied its largest primetime audience in nearly ten years.  HLN averaged 2.5 million primetime viewers on Tuesday, the network’s biggest viewership since 9/11, based on Nielsen’s fast nationals.  HLN’s Nancy Grace program attracted its best audience ever at 8p with an average of 2.8 million total viewers and 1.2 million with A25-54.

Frosh season finale of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding on TLC last Friday at 10p averaged 1.4 million total viewers. 

~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

Healthy lifestyle and wellness network, Veria TV forged a three-year distribution agreement with American Forces Network (AFN) to supply Veria programming to US troops stationed around the world.  The deal goes into effect right away making Veria TV the first healthy lifestyle and wellness channel offered on AFN, airing in an early morning programming block on weekdays. 

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Making it official, James Spader will join NBC’s comedy The Office as a cast regular beginning with the new fall season.  Spader will play CEO Robert California of Sabre, the parent company of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Co. and California will become the new CEO of Dunder Mifflin.  Spader replaces Kathy Bates who currently headlines NBC’s Harry’s Law.  The Office debuts season eight on September 22 at 9p on NBC.

A new original scripted series, Common Law soon joins USA Network’s schedule. Production begins next month on 11 episodes shot in New Orleans.  Common Law is about Travis Marks (Michael Ealy) and Wes Mitchell (Warren Kole), two cops who have problems with each other.  Wes, is a detailed, methodical former lawyer with a passion for cars, gardening and his ex-wife while Travis is a ladies’ man who served time in juvenile hall.  Their captain, in order to save their professional partnership, sends the pair to couples therapy to resolve their conflicts.   The series is produced by CBS Television Studios and Junction Entertainment. 

David Hasselhoff joins the cast of FX’s Sons of Anarchy playing Dondo, former adult film star who is now making money by producing sleazy films.

Showtime tapped Zach McGowan for season two of Shameless where he will play Karen’s new friend, Jody, reports TVLine

Justin Deeley cast in the recurring role of Austin on The CW’s 90201 who becomes a potential love interest for Naomi, per TVLine.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis:   FOX with its bevy of “bad boys” won Saturday night at 0.9/4 among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen.  At 8p, FOX’s double Cops repeat episodes averaged a winning 0.9/4 and ABC’s 101 Ways to Leave a Game Show encore was next at 0.5/2.  Same scenario at 9p as more Cops repeat eps on FOX stayed in control with an average of 1.1/4 followed by Sabado Gigante on Univision at 0.7/3.  Then at 10p, CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery rebroadcast and Univision’s Sabado Gigante tied for #1 at 0.8/3 each with NBC’s Law & Order: LA repeat pulling into second place at 0.7/2.

Sunday A18-49 Analysis:  FOX and Univision struck an equal chord Sunday with each posting a 1.0/4 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen.  Starting out, a rerun of America’s Funniest Home Videos on ABC did best during 7p at 0.8/4 with CBS’ 60 Minutes repeat and the average of FOX’s reruns of American Dad and Bob’s Burgers next at 0.7/3 apiece.  At 8p, the average of FOX’s The Simpsons and The Cleveland Show (both rebroadcasts) and Univision’s Pequenos Gigantes shared #1 at 1.1/5  while ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and NBC’s America’s Got Talent (both shows also repeats) tied for #2 at 0.8/3.  Univision put some space in between itself and the other networks at 9p as Pequenos Gigantes won with a 1.5/6 followed by an hour-long encore of Family Guy on FOX at 1.2/4.  NBC hit #1 at 10p with The Marriage Ref at 1.2/4 and Telemundo’s Cine Millonario and Univision’s Sal y Pimienta each delivered a 0.8/3 in second place.

Monday A18-49 Analysis:  Sparks flew Monday as Univision scored a #1 with the A18-49 viewers at 1.8/7, according to final national ratings from Nielsen.  NBC’s America’s Got Talent repeat delivered the highest ratings at 8p with a 1.2/5 and Univision followed with the average of Antesa La Copa and Copa America 2011 at 1.1/4.  At 9p, a tie occurred between NBC’s Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks special and Univision’s Copa America at 2.1/8 each and the average of CBS’ repeat sitcoms Two and a Half Men and Mike & Molly was #2 at 1.1/4.  Univision’s Copa America finished the holiday night through 10p on top with a 2.3/9 and NBC’s Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks rebroadcast trailed next with a 1.3/5.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Effective immediately, Marc Mannino named Director/Music Synchronization with Imagem Creative Services USA.  In his new role, Marc will oversee the synchronization sales for the company’s music catalogs in addition to working on behalf of the company’s copyrights working with music users in the advertising, film, TV, online and video game businesses.  Marc will further manage a five-person staff located at Imagem offices in New York and Los Angeles.

Turner Broadcasting named Anthony Lukom as VP/GM, UK and Ireland.  Anthony will spearhead Turner’s roster of entertainment brands including Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Cartoonito, TCM and Adult Swim.  He reports to Pete Flamman, SVP/GM, Northern Europe.

Daryl Mintz elevated to CFO with Sesame Workshop where he manages all financial duties for the organization that operates Sesame Street.  Daryl reports to H. Melvin Ming, COO. 

FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) hired Andrew Berman as VP/International Distribution for Children’s and Family Entertainment.  Effective immediately, Andrew will work in tandem with executives to find properties that work with FME’s portfolio and additionally will deploy strategies to distribute content and formats to media companies in international markets.  Based in Los Angeles, Andrew reports to Sander Schwartz, Head/Children’s and Family Entertainment.

Ryan McDermott tapped by Crown Media Networks, a division of Crown Media Holdings Inc. and operators of Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel to become Director/Distribution in charge of Comcast, Time Warner and Bright House Networks accounts in the eastern region.  Based in New York City, Ryan reports to Lisa Barroso, VP/Distribution.

Dan Silberman advances to SVP/Publicity for A&E Network and BIO Channel.  Dan heads the development and implementation of corporate and trade communication strategies and oversees all program-based consumer press functions, talent relations and awards strategy for the cable networks including A&E Network, BIO Channel as well as the Crime & Investigation Network and the company’s documentary division, A&E IndieFilms.  Dan continues to report to Bob DeBitetto, President/GM, A&E Network and BIO Channel. 

Moxie Pictures employed David Casey as Director/Creative where he joins Jesse Korwin, Director/Development within the company’s growing TV unit, Moxie Pictures TV.
