An application has been filed with the FCC for the sale of KVNV-TV of Ely, NV from Valley Broadcasting Company a subsidiary of Sunbelt Communications Company to Concord, NH-based PMCM TV, LLC.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Shannen Doherty may join her former castmates of Beverly Hills, 90210 and reprise her role as Brenda Walsh on The CW’s new spinoff series 90210, reports Variety. Shannen would be reuniting with Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth who are in place reprising their former characters.

Michael Imperioli was tapped to co-star on ABC’s new drama series Life on Mars where he will play Detective Ray Carling, a character from the 1970s. The time-travel drama is about Sam Tyler, played by Jason O’Mara, a modern-day detective who goes back to 1972 after experiencing a car crash and still functions as a detective. The series is produced by 20th Century Fox TV, ABC Studios and Kudos.

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:   This deal was supposed to be kaput but the market wants what the market wants. Microsoft has been talking to some major media players this week including Time Warner and News Corp. as it prepares to take another pass at Yahoo, reports the Wall Street Journal. This time Microsoft would be bidding only for its search business and partners would buy the rest, effectively breaking up Yahoo into pieces. Yahoo has also circled back to Time Warner regarding a potential merger with AOL. Meanwhile The Justice Department opened a formal antitrust inquiry into Yahoo‘s search outsourcing deal with Google and all indications are they plan to take a hard look at the deal, per The Washington Post. CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY: This week an Ohio district court set July 7, as in this Monday, as the expiration date for a temporary restraining order obtained by American Greetings to block DIC Entertainment from being acquired by Cookie Jar Entertainment, per Thomson Financial News.  The Cookie Jar and DIC $87.6 million merger was announced on June 20.  The court also set a preliminary hearing for July 24-25 to decide whether to provide American Greetings with another injunction to stop DIC from exploiting the Strawberry Shortcake property while the dispute is resolved.  American Greetings maintains that the sale of DIC would violate its rights as the owner of the Strawberry Shortcake brand, which DIC manages for them.  Full edition: CYN KIDS.

CYNOPSIS INTERNATIONAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Oprah’s Big Give is one of several shows sold as part of recent FremantleMedia Enterprises deals covering over 700 hours of programming.  Modeling competition She’s Got the Look sold 108 hours in 18 territories, including the U.K., France, Italy, Portugal, New Zealand and Thailand.  In the Netherlands, SBS took both tape and format rights. Oprah’s Big Give sold 160+ hours to Kanal 5 in Sweden, Ten in Australia, NBC/Hallmark in Asia (pan regional) and SBS in The Netherlands (tape and format rights).  Eleven territories picked up 66 hours of DEA, including RTL Digital in Germany and BSkyB in the U.K. RTL and Italy’s Raisat were also in a buying spree for the Travel Channel catalog (Anthony Bordain’s No Reservations, Andrew Zimmern’s Bizarre Foods and Sam Brown’s Passport to China) for a total of 120 hours to 6 territories.  Last, but not least, Australian drama Satisfaction got some 180 hours sold in 18 territories such as SIC in Portugal and SBS.  Full edition: CYN INTERNATIONAL.
