Good morning. It’s Thursday, July 26, 2012, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.
The London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony gets rolling tomorrow night, with Bob Costas joining co-hosts Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira at 7:30p for the event. Olympic primetime correspondent Ryan Seacrest and NBC News Special Correspondent Tom Brokaw will contribute interviews and reports. Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt voiced the opening tease of the Games for NBC, with Queen Elizabeth II officially opening the event to welcome 10,000 athletes from around the world.
FOX Sports bolstered its college football studio lineup, adding Eddie George and Joey Harrington to join host Erin Andrews as the core of the team. The trio will handle all pregame, halftime and postgame studio coverage live from the FOX Network Center in Los Angeles. The action Saturday, Sept. 1 at 7:30p when Hawaii visits USC.
ESPN and the Big 12 Conference announced the channel’s Big Monday Big 12 men’s college basketball schedule for the 2013 season. The weekly series, which offers doubleheaders with the Big East Conference, will air every Monday during conference play at 9p from January 14 to March 4. Schedule highlights include new conference member West Virginia playing three Big Monday games, including Kansas and Texas on Jan. 28 and Feb. 4 respectively. Kansas, meanwhile, plays four Big Monday games, additionally facing Baylor, Kansas State and Iowa State.
BTN revealed its game broadcast teams and studio talent for the 2012 football season which features more than 40 games. For the sixth straight year, Dave Revsine, Gerry DiNardo and Howard Griffith will anchor the network’s game-day studio coverage on Big Ten Football Saturday, and will contribute to additional studio shows during the week. The channel’s broadcast teams for football telecasts include Eric Collins and Derek Rackley; Kevin Kugler and Chris Martin; and Matt Devlin and Glen Mason. Other play-by-play voices include Wayne Larrivee and Brian Anderson, as well as Antwaan Randle El, Tom Waddle, Chuck Long and J Leman.
Telemundo Media announced its programming plans for the kick-off of the Games, which starts today at 6:30a with an early line-up that includes boxing, swimming, gymnastics and soccer. In addition, the network introduced “Sueña” (Dream), a song produced exclusively for the channel by Emilio Estefan and performed by novela star and singer Jencarlos Canela. In addition, Telemundo announced former Olympic athletes Ramón Rivas and Nicolás Massú will join Telemundo’s team of expert commentators and analysts to present the basketball and tennis matches respectively.
ESPN re-signed Mark Jones, Sean McDonough, Brad Nessler, Dave Pasch, Joe Tessitore and Bob Wischusen to multi-year contract extensions.
MLB Network announced that the channel will air 20 hours of live coverage focused on the latest trade news and rumors starting Sunday and running through the non-waiver trade deadline on Tuesday, July 31. Programming includes a six-hour live MLB Tonight: Trade Deadline Special starting at 11a on July 31.
Golden Boy Promotions, SHOWTIME Sports and CBS Sports are partnering to feature boxers from the Olympics, with cards set to run on CBS. The first broadcasts will begin on Oct. 14 and Dec. 15 with more date to be announced later.
Comcast SportsNet President and General Manager Matthew Hutchings introduced the management team for the new Houston-based regional sports network that will serve as the television home of the Astros and Rockets. The network’s management team is set to consist of: Timothy “Murphy” Brown, Vice President of Production and Executive Producer; Joseph Ward, Vice President of Operations and Engineering; Helen Wilson, Vice President of Marketing; Gerald “Doug” Lyles II, Vice President of Advertising Sales; Jim Colasanto, Senior Director of Advertising Sales; and Donna White, Vice President of Finance and Human Resources.
NBA TV will carry the NBA 2012-13 Schedule Release Special, exclusively announcing the 2012-13 NBA regular season schedule tonight at 7p. The one-hour show will highlight the season’s biggest games including those scheduled for the opening week of the season, Christmas Day and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Jack Link’s Major League Fishing stated that the Championship Round of its next event – the Summit Cup has been slated to run on NBC on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 1p. The Championship Round will then re-air on Outdoor Channel the following week. The first five rounds of the Summit Cup will be carried by Outdoor Channel starting January 1, 2013 at 1p.
Chello Zone’s Extreme Sports Channel commissioned a new behind-the-scenes docu-series that details the ups and downs of a BMX season across Europe. The series, dubbed Silent Revolution, follows the lives of a number of riders from the UK and the rest of the world as they “compete throughout the year and prepare for the challenges of meetings across the continent.”
Marketing agency CSE, known for its sports representation and marketing, is spreading its wings even further with a full-length original television series called Lights Out that will debut on The Weather Channel at 9p.

NBCUniversal announced that it had sold $1 billion of national television and digital advertising for its coverage of the London 2012 Olympic Games, marking the most ever for an Olympic Games. The tally is about $150 million more than the haul from the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Digital ad sales for London surpassed $60 million, according to the company, roughly three times more than the total for Beijing
Lenovo inked a multi-year relationship to make the company the Official Laptop, Desktop and Workstation Sponsor of the NFL. As part of the deal, the company will be allowed to use NFL-owned trademarks in marketing and advertising activities for the next three years. The first sponsorship activities are set to launch at the 2012 NFL Kickoff event in early September.

More Olympics. NBC News and NBC-owned stations are teaming to cover the London Olympic Games in real-time by curating the best social content from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and more via Storify. The results will be shared across TODAY.com and the Owned Television Station websites.
The NBA selected the SAP HANA platform to develop a “statistical experience” for its fans on NBA.com. The real-time data platform will allow the league to bring official NBA statistical information directly to fans’ fingertips on the league’s official website. The two organizations also announced a new multiyear marketing partnership that will make SAP the Official Business Analytics Software Partner of the league.
The USA Today Sports Media Group hired Jamie Mottram to join the company as Director of Content Development. Mottram most recently ran strategy and development for blogs, social media and SEO for Yahoo! Media, where he helped build Yahoo! Sports into the most-visited digital sports destination in North America.
