Good morning. It’s Thursday, July 22, 2010, and this is your first early morning briefing.  As always, if you prefer to watch this morning’s news instead of reading it, click here

Tonight’s Premiere:
Investigation Discovery: Wicked Attraction at 10p

As CBS closes the door to its long-running daytime soap As the World Turns this September, the network replaces it with a new daytime talk show featuring a cadre of well-known female news and television personalities. The daily, one-hour series launches this fall co-hosted by Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini and Marissa Jaret Winokur. Motherhood is the focus of the talk show as all the celebrity co-hosts are moms with children ranging from infant to adult. The panel will share stories and interact with the studio audience as well as viewers at home on topics and current headlines relating to being a mother. Show segments include interviews with celebrities and newsmakers, live remotes from the field and personal home footage shot by the co-hosts. Gilbert, formerly on the hit sitcom Roseanne, developed the show and will serve as executive producer along with John Redmann. The series is produced by Raquel Productions Inc.

FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) optioned the rights from Iconografix to produce and distribute The Drivers, a series inspired by the 24-hour motor race in Le Mans and based on the book, Shelby: The Man, The Cars, The Legend by Wallace A. Wyss. As part of the company’s international drama strategy, FME will finance and package The Drivers in Europe initially then sell the project in the US and to other international countries. The Drivers, set in the 1950s-1960s, will relate the story of young and wild race car drivers from the US, Germany, France, Italy and the UK who are friends and rivals in the historic Le Mans race. Mark Sennet Entertainment and Headline Pictures will co-produce the project. Furthermore, FME announced it is making a first-look deal with London-based Headline Pictures and US-based Sennet Entertainment to develop long-form content projects.

FOX continues to search for an American Idol judge replacement to succeed Simon Cowell and singer Chris Isaak appears to be in the running. As American Idol begins preliminary auditions for the tenth season, Isaak has apparently met with FOX twice. Isaak is best known for his 1989 hit song “Wicked Game” and appearances in TV series such as Eastwick, Cold Case, Smallville and a starring turn in the Chris Isaak Show for Showtime.

TLC is working with producer Stiletto Television on a new reality special about taxidermy that will serve as a backdoor pilot for a future series. The yet-to-be-titled one-hour project is scheduled to air this fall and will meet several different taxidermists from around the country and look at their projects from domestic pets to an African elephant.
