NBC Publishing and NBC Sports enter into a publishing deal with Rodale Books for the new kid’s illustrated Olympic sports-centric chapter book, Ring Force (www.ringforcebook.com). Written by Brian Brown, Story Editor and Sr. Producer/NBC Sports and Olympics, Ring Force debuts this week as both a trade paperback book from Rodale Books and an eBook from NBC Publishing to coincide with the 2012 Olympic Games in London, which officially open July 27, 2012. Embodying the Olympic dream of excellence, Ring Force is an adventure story about a team of exceptional young athletes fighting a mysterious evil force and who aim to keep the Olympic spirit alive. Disney‘s Club Penguin launches its Make Your Mark: Ultimate Jam (www.clubpenguin.com/ultimatejam), a virtual world meets music and dance party happening, July 19-31, 2012. The event will feature guest appearances by Rocky and CeCe penguins from Disney Channel’s series Shake It Up, allowing players to interactive with the networks’ personalities within the virtual world for the first time. Players will also be able to unlock exclusive dance moves, as well as dress their penguins in outfits inspired by Rocky and CeCe’s styles and outfit their igloos with themed decorations too. Additionally, just ahead the event, Club Penguin and Walt Disney Records will release its first single and music video, The Party Starts Now, by DJ Cadence, which will be available in English, French, German and Spanish. The original song was co-written by Michelle Lewis (China McClain, Lisa Loeb’s Camp Lisa, Raven Symone) and guitarist/songwriter/producer/composer Dan Petty, who also create music for the Disney Junior series Doc McStuffins. The music video will be promoted on Disney Channel, www.video.disney.com and www.youtube.com/disney, and will also be available for purchase through retailers including iTunes, Google Play and Amazon.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Season two of eOne‘s Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom launches on Nick Jr. UK (7:15a and 5:30p). In addition, 13 further new episodes of Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom from the second season will debut on the channel towards the end of the year. Meanwhile Channel 5’s Milkshake! (UK) will begin airing the second season this fall 2012. Beginning July 30, 2012, Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom will also be featured on Nick Jr.’s ‘Star of the Week’ programming slot, featuring back-to-back episodes of popular shows on the channel. Nick Jr. is supporting the launch of new episodes with a dedicated consumer marketing campaign and a digital advertising campaign. eOne Family will promote the new season’s broadcast with a digital media and experiential marketing campaign titled ‘Ben and Holly’s Magic School‘ that will run throughout fall 2012. The social media initiative for the series includes the launch of its own Star of the Week Facebook app competition at the end of July to tie-in with Nick Jr.’s similarly titled broadcast slot. The competition will encourage fans to upload a magical Ben and Holly inspired video, with a weekly winner and prizing. At the end of September the best overall video will win a special prize package.

CBeebies for Latin America and US Hispanic audiences, distributed by Miami-based BBC Worldwide Channels Latin America & US Hispanic, will premiere the preschool series Mr. Bloom’s Nursery on Monday, July 23 at 10:30a, during the channel’s Wake Up programming block.

Disney XD in Canada is set to debut the two-part Phineas and Ferb special Where’s Perry? this summer. The first part of Where’s Perry? will premiere Saturday, July 28 at 11:30a, followed by second part on Saturday, August 25 at 8p. Views can also search for Perry throughout the summer with new games online and via mobile platforms at DisneyXD.ca. The Where’s Perry two-parter will also be available on Disney XD OnDemand, when part one debuts on August 7, followed by part two on September 4. Additionally, all summer long Disney XD in Canada will feature Phineas and Ferb-themed weekday morning marathons from 10a-12n. The Where’s My Perry? game recently launched for iOS and Android mobile devices, while kids can also play the Find Perry game on DIsneyXD.ca.

HIT Entertainment finalizes four deals for its CGI medieval preschool series Mike the Knight in four new territories. Broadcasters newly acquiring Mike the Knight are TVE (Spain), Mini Mini (Poland), DigiTurk (Turkey) and TV Karusel (Russia). In a separate deal, HIT has sold 14 hours of programming to Emirates airline. The package is comprised of two hours of content from seven different HIT series including, Mike the Knight, Thomas & Friends, Fireman Sam, Pingo, Bob the Builder and Angelina Ballerina. Created by Alexander Bar (Lunar Jim) and the head writer is Marc Seal (head writer on Bob the Builder), Mike the Knight is a co-production between HIT Entertainment and Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana Studio.

Millimages launches its preschool-aimed iPad app Louie, teach me to draw and write in the US ($3.99). The app, based on Millimages popular preschool series Louie, allows preschoolers to join Louie, Yoko and their pals and learn how to draw and write the letters of the alphabet through four different activities: they can draw with Louie and his friends; color their favorite characters by dipping fingers into individual paint pots; put letters of their names in the right order, and write the letters of their names. Produced by Millimages, there are currently three seasons of Louie (117 episodes and 2×30 specials) that can be see in 100+ territories worldwide. Millimages holds all international TV and licensing and merchandising rights to the property.

Scholastic Media heads into back-to-school season with the release of The Magic School Bus: Dino Shuffle app via the LeapFrog App Center, for Leapfrog LeapPad, this August 2012 ($7.50). The app invites players to shuffle through a Dino Deck compiled by science teacher extraordinaire, Ms. Frizzle, to learn tons of dino facts. Kids can then test their dino knowledge in two games.

EXECUTIVE MOVES

Discovery Channel appoints Scott Lewers as SVP/ Programming.  Lewers, who is based at Discovery’s Silver Spring headquarters, reports to Eileen O’Neill, Group President/Discovery & TLC Networks. Previously, Lewers served as VP/Strategic Multi-Platform Program Planning & Acquisitions, Oxygen Media/NBCU, and before that as the network’s Director/Programming, Scheduling and Planning. Prior to that, Lewers was as Manager/Programming, Scheduling & Acquisitions at Lifetime Entertainment. He also toiled for as Senior Analyst of Primary Research & Development, Nielsen Media Research.

Discovery Communication’s Discovery Networks Latin America/US Hispanic (DLA/USH) appoints Carolina Lightcap as Head of Content, DLA/USH and GM for the Southern Cone. Lightcap, who will take up her new positions from August 13, 2012, will be based in Buenos Aires, Argentina and will report to Enrique R. Martinez, President and MD, DLA/USH. A 20-year TV veteran, Lightcap most recently served as President of Disney Channels Worldwide. Prior to that she was CMO/Disney Latin America and SVP/Programming and Creative Affairs/Disney Channels Latin America. Earlier in her career, Lightcap also held executive positions at Sky Latin America, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Fox Latin American Channels.

Cinedigm Entertainment Group names industry veteran Vincent Scordino as VP/Theatrical Acquisitions. He will repot to Cinedigm Entertainment Group co-President Susan Margolin. Most recently, Scordino toiled in acquisitions for Millennium. He previously served as an executive at Apparition, having begun his career with Picturehouse, after working as an agent at Sandra Marsh Management. Additionally, the company has upped Emily Rothschild to Director/Acquisitions and Kristin Harris to Director/Theatrical Acquisitions.
