~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

SNL’s Amy Poehler is finalizing contract details to join the cast of NBC’s new comedy that was originally a spinoff of The Office. The sitcom from Greg Daniels and Mike Schur, will be a new stand-alone series which also recently cast Aziz Ansari. The series will open this winter in the Thursday at 930p time slot following The Office.

CBS’ forensic drama CSI will lose its male co-star as William Petersen will depart midseason. Executive producers are currently casting for a new co-star to play opposite Marg Helgenberger. Petersen will continue to be an executive producer for the show and will occasionally appear in future episodes.

Executive producer Sean Bailey made a half million dollar deal with ABC to develop the put pilot The Unlimited which ABC Studios will produce, per Variety. The spec script, written by Sean, is about a Texas basketball coach who finds out his deceased father was a super genius and that he has the same extraordinary abilities.

FOX handed a cast-contingent presentation order to Sincerely, Ted L. Nancy, a semi-scripted comedy based on the book series Letters From a Nut by Ted L. Nancy and produced by Lionsgate TV, reports THR. The book series was first developed by ABC seven years ago then within the last year, Lionsgate TV presented the idea as an unscripted comedy where a regular guy goes after major corporations through letter-writing campaigns, then with the responses in hand, stages stunts involving ordinary people.

Scrubs’ show executive Bill Lawrence confirmed at TCA that the next season will be actor Zach Braff’s last on the series. The series, produced by ABC Studios, just moved to ABC after having been on NBC for seven seasons. Braff indicated he would be interested in coming back on the show as a guest star and maybe even to direct.

Bob Papa was selected as the new play-by-play announcer for NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football working alongside Cris Collinsworth. The duo will kick off their eight-game regular season announcer duties as the network’s third season coverage begins November 6 at 8p with the Cleveland Browns hosting the Denver Broncos.

Outdoor Channel tapped fishing guru Bill Dance as host for a new series, Bill Dance Saltwater which will air as part of the network’s Friday Night Fishing block starting January 2. Dance will travel cross-country sharing his saltwater fishing destination finds.

Casting Note: If you think you, or someone you know has Spidey sense … oh and a great rock singing voice, then this is the call they’ve been waiting for.  Casting for several roles for the new Broadway musical Spider-Man, directed by Julie Taymor and featuring music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge, will take place in NYC on July 28 (10a-5p) at The Knitting Factory, 74 Leonard Street.  Here is who they are looking for:  Peter Parker (male, 16-20s); Mary Jane (female 16-20s); Principal woman (female 25-35) a world music type, “think Sinead O’Connor with a Middle Eastern/Bulgarian/Greek twist,” all accents and ethnicities welcome for this role.  If you plan to attend you should prepare 16 bars of a pop/rock song that shows your singing range, bring sheet music and a photo/resume (if you have one).

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY
:
Amazon.com is launching a new video on demand streaming service to a limited number of invited customers today, reports The New York Times, separate from the underwhelming Unbox store/rental outlet. About 40,000 movies and TV shows will be available to watch seconds after ordering. Here’s the catch. The video is only viewable on TV only through Sony’s $300 Bravia Internet Video link device designed to connect wirelessly to Bravia televisions. Amazon says it is pursuing similar deals with other platforms before rolling out the service to the public later this summer. Let’s hope so. So far Amazon’s video initiatives have failed to include wide swaths of users. For instance the Unbox/Tivo integration still only works on PCs. Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY
Chorion
, the intellectual property company, is launching Chorion Brand Partners, a new division that will set up third-party marketing and promotional partnerships to further support the company’s brands.  Vickie Holtom, Chorion’s Partnership Manager, will head Chorion Brand Partners.  And with that, the first pact completed by the new endeavor is a two-year deal to make Paddington Bear the face of British Airways kid’s travel program.  Beginning this October, the airline will hand out Paddington Bear branded travel activity packs to passengers K3-5 on flights in and out of the UK. Full edition: CYN KIDS.

CYNOPSIS INTERNATIONAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Freeview has been officially launched by Australia’s free-to-air commercial TV networks and public broadcasters.  Shareholders include the ABC, SBS, the Seven Network, the Nine Network, Network Ten, Prime, WIN and Southern Cross with ABC’s Director/Television, Kim Dalton, chairing the non-profit.  As of 2009, Australian legislation will enable the commercial free-to-air networks to broadcast an additional standard def (SD) channel each in addition to their primary SD and high def channels.  The three new channels will bring the number of channels suites marketed under the Freeview to 15.  Full edition: CYN INTERNATIONAL.
