Good morning. It’s Thursday, February 9, 2012, and this your first early morning briefing.

Nickelodeon unveils a new series pick-up and its development slate for NickMom, its mom-targeted, primetime, and advertiser-supported TV comedy block on Nick Jr., and convergent website NickMom.com (www.nickmom.com). The network picked the stand-up comedy series NickMom Night Out (26 episodes) for the TV block. Slated to launch in 4Q 2012 and air in primetime on Nick Jr., the series will feature comedians such as Judy Gold, Corey Kahaney, B Phlat and Deena Blizzard talking about the ups and downs of parenting. Additionally, Nickelodeon announced 50+ development projects across TV and digital. Nickelodeon also today announced that Johnson & Johnson, Target, General Mills and Reckitt Benckiser have signed on as sponsors for NickMom. These multi-million dollar deals will include brand integration, content development and sponsorships across both the NickMom TV block and NickMom.com. Some of the projects on the development slate include:

  • A hybrid sketch/talk series starring and executive produced by comedian/actress Caroline Rhea and Emily Cohen (Title TBD).
  • It’s Nighttime with Annabelle Gurwitch – A talk show that looks at the world through Gurwitch’s mom-colored glasses, executive produced by Gurwitch and Elyse Roth (former The Daily Show producer).
  • The 5th Hour – A scripted comedy show inspired by morning news shows and hosted by mom comics as the news team. Executive produced by Mad Cow Productions (Madeleine Smithberg, executive producer The Daily Show with Jon Stewart), Sarah North and Jordan Tilzer (Roar).
  • The Judi & Kate Show – a show within a show, the series features two mom video bloggers talking about everything going on in their lives and their own take on motherhood. Executive produced by Coolfire Productions (Welcome to Sweetie Pies).
  • Mommy Double – what mom hasn’t said, “If there were only two of me?”  Here a mom double is brought in to help, or try to help, get the job done. Executive produced by Magda Liolis and Eileen Braun (Figure It Out, Bet the House).
  • Oblivious – A game show where unsuspecting moms get the chance to answer trivia for cash. Executive produced by Scott Stone (Stone and Company, Brain Surge).
  • My 63 Moms – comic and first-time mom Andrea Rosen asks moms across the country to tell her everything they think she needs to know, and then some. Executive produced by Linda Schaeffer and Barbara Kanowitz Small, with Andrea Rosen.
  • Road Mamas – This docu-series follows three stand-up comedian moms and eight kids in one RV. Executive produced by Chris Debeic/Triternal Studios.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Dan Angel, a partner in the production company, The Hatchery, options Dark Eden (Katherine Tegen Books), a new multimedia young adult novel by Patrick Carman (Land of Elyon, Atherton, Thirteen Days to Midnight, 39 Clues  The Black Circle, among others). LICENSING

Skyreader Media and the San Diego Zoo enter into a deal for a new interactive eBook series from author-in-residence Leslie McGuirk.  McGuirk will again team up with author-restaurateur Alex von Bidder to create a series of three interactive eBooks titled Wiggens at the San Diego Zoo (working title). The eBook titles will follow the further adventures of Wiggens, the precocious Chocolate Labrador puppy, who will go behind the scenes to visit his Uncle, a Golden Lab based on a real-life dog, who works as a companion dog to a cheetah at the Zoo. The eBook series will also explore the San Diego Zoo’s day-to-day tasks such as the feeding and care of animals, conservation and eco-efforts that are part of the zoo’s operation. Utilizing the proprietary Skyreader technology platform, the eBooks will incorporate video footage and onsite San Diego Zoo visuals to offer readers with real experiences from Wiggens’ point of view as he learns to make friends at the Zoo. Each eBook will also serve as a gateway into the virtual world of the San Diego Zoo where kids and parents can safely take part in activities. Additionally, McGuirk and Skyreader Media are transforming her classic kid’s series, Pip the Penguin, into a new series of eBooks. How Many?
