ABC has a new primetime mystery reality series Whodunnit? set to roll out this summer from Anthony E. Zuiker, creator of the CSI franchise and Cris Abrego, founder of the production company 51 Minds.  Production has started on this nine-episode series where 13 contestants put their investigative skills to the test to solve a series of murders.  The amateur sleuths will reside on a luxury estate where each week they must solve a new crime in order to advance in the game.  Those who fail will be eliminated until three are left.  In the final episode, one player will reveal the killer and take home the $250,000 prize.  This interactive series is produced by Zuiker’s Dare to Pass and 51 Minds.

3net, the joint venture 24/7 3D network from Discovery, Sony and IMAX celebrates its two-year anniversary next week as the network originally launched on February 11, 2011.  Just shy of those two years, 3net has bolstered its reach to more than 40 million US homes across DIRECTV, Comcast, Service Electric, Cablevision and Netflix and will additionally launch soon on Google Fiber.  3net is also ready to premiere its 13th native 3D series this month when Crazy Land debuts Sunday, February 17 at 9p.  Crazy Land explores various American subcultures and the eccentric people who inhabit them such as young people featured in the opening episode wearing masks and capes to create a new breed of true-life super heroes.  Tom Cosgrove, President/CEO of 3net said the network will continue producing original programming in a variety of genres such as non-fiction, scripted and more as well as pushing the boundaries of creative content especially with shows that take viewers on a journey.  “Shows like Crazy Land offers a look into unique cultures closer to home and into worlds you haven’t seen before. The 3D platform gives viewers more of an immersive experience into these worlds whether it’s through an animated scripted series or a travel show.”  Furthermore, 3net has seen its rapid distribution enabled by the growing adoption of 3D televisions.  Currently, 3D television sets are in almost one quarter of all US homes and the industry forecast indicates continued major growth in 2013.  “With 3D televisions already in nearly 25 million US households and 3D Blu-ray sales up 100 percent in 2012, we have seen a surge in 3D TV in the last six months,” says Cosgrove. “At 3net we love that ESPN has a 3D channel and if other channels come on board, it means the platform has arrived.”

UK pop band, The Wanted landed a new docu-series on E! premiering this June under the working  title The Wanted Life. Actress and filmmaker Isabella Rossellini returns to Sundance Channel in her latest series Mammas which bows appropriately on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12.  In this new nine-episode series, Rossellini writes, directs and is featured dressed in fantastical costumes in reenactments to become like animal mothers.  From cuckoos to wasps, Rossellini’s entertaining and educational portrayals will show the varied ways mothers in the wild provide for their young.  Previously, Rossellini showed the world the unconventional mating and the sex lives of animals in her short film series Green Porno and Green Porno Seduce Me.  Mammas is additionally produced by Patrice Haddad and Claire Marquet in association with Sundance Channel.

A new miniseries on Animal Planet illustrates the battle between poachers and a South African anti-poaching unit which has enlisted four US Special Forces vets to help protect endangered rhinos.  Beginning Thursday, March 7 at 9p, Battleground: Rhino Wars opens with the first of three episodes that document the fight for rhino horns, an exotic commodity that has become lucrative in this illegal trade.  Battleground: Rhino Wars is produced by Aquavision TV Productions and NHNZ Ltd. ~ DISTRIBUTION, CARRIAGE & CLEARANCE ~

After a successful NATPE convention, Rohrs Media Group announced it is on target for the fall 2013 launch of the off-net series Bridezillas. Station groups lining up for the barter only strip show include Weigel, Sinclair, Scripps, Capitol, Cox, Lin, Meredith, Local, Belo, Entravision and Granite among others. “The reaction from stations and groups at last week’s NATPE convention was nothing short of phenomenal,” said John Rohrs. “Stations recognize that Bridezillas has great brand recognition, excellent female demos, will add a unique dimension to daytime and because of its stellar nine year track record on WE tv removes the uncertainty of buying an unproven first-run show.”

In other post-NATPE news, Meredith Video Solutions Executive VicePresident and General Manager Kieran Clarke says he’s gotten an enthusiastic response for Aloha, a reality show hosted by husband and wife athletic superstars Gabrielle Reece and Laird Hamilton. “It’s like Biggest Loser becomes Biggest Winner,” says Clarke. “We take overstressed, overweight city dwellers and bring them to Kauai for two weeks, where Gabrielle and Laird live. They give the contestants a mind, body, and soul makeover – we have blue chip global sponsors about to sign up.”
