Cynopsis: Kids!
02/03/11
Good morning. It’s Thursday, February 3, 2011, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
Marblemedia and UK-based Whole Hog Creations‘ James Fox and Richard Brookes (creators of Skatoony) are teaming up to develop Chugga Chugga Wow (52×11), a new preschool mixed live-action animated series and website. The educational series is in development for Canada’s Kids’ CBC ( www.kidscbc.ca ), the commercial-free preschool block that airs weekdays 7a-12p on CBC. Chugga Chugga Wow features real kids hopping on board an animated train and setting out on an adventure through a cartoon world. At each stop, the kids interact with characters, and help them solve everyday problems through learning-based activities. Online kids will be able to go on the adventures themselves and interact with the characters. International distribution and format sales for Chugga Chugga Wow will be handled by marblemedia’s distribution arm, Distribution360.

Teachers across the nation report interest in utilizing digital instruction materials in the classroom but a lack of computing devices and infrastructure make the task impossible for many, according to a new report released by PBS and Grunwald Associates. Over half of K-12 teachers report using digital media in the classroom frequently, (76% of teachers stream or download TV and video content, up from 55% in 2007,) but cost continues to grow as the main barrier to using fee-based digital resources, with 46% of teachers citing this as a barrier. Also, digital content is found to be more effective when integrated with other materials. More than two-thirds (67%) of teachers said that digital resources help them differentiate learning for individual students, with 68% believing TV and video content stimulates discussion.
