Cynopsis: Kids!
08/18/11

Good morning. It’s Thursday, August 18, 2011, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Zephyr Media Group, a media buying agency, is heading a consortium of companies that will launch Vibrant TV, a new ad supported US broadcast outlet that aims to provide programming from international producers and broadcasters across a range of genres and demos.  Scheduled to launch in June 2012, Vibrant TV will be comprised of programming blocks across categories including kids, lifestyle, series and sports.  Dan Zifkin, CEO/Zephyr Media and the channel’s acquisitions team will attend Mipcom this fall where they’ll meet with international broadcasters and indie production companies.  Vibrant TV will be available via a mix of satellite and terrestrial platforms, with Zephyr Media handling ad sales, which will focus on international-centric advertisers including airlines and hotels, and a range of globally manufactured consumer products.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Australia’s ABC Children’s TV biggest budget kid’s live-action series ever, Resistance (26×30), will be the first production to be filmed the South Australia Film Corporation’s new studios in Adelaide this fall.  With a price tag of US$14.7 million, Resistance is a co-production between Australia’s Persistence Productions and Canada’s Shaftesbury Films.  Set to begin production in South Australia this November, the series will launch on ABC3 (Australia) in 2012 and on YTV (Canada).  Resistance is the story of the fate of humankind in the hands of a small group of genius teenage resistance fighters.  Armed with technology that is beyond the cutting edge, and trained by a mysterious young billionaire, they’re the Earth’s last line of defense against an alien invasion.

Brian Cosgrove and Mark Hall (the creative duo/founders behind Cosgrove Hall and animated shows including Dangermouse and Wind in the Willow) have emerged from retirement to join with Francis Fitzpatrick (creator of Jakers!) to establish Cosgrove Hall Fitzpatrick Entertainment (CHF Entertainment) and produce the new animated preschool series Pip! (52×10).  Created by photographer Charlie Ward, Pip!  Simon Hall, also formerly of Cosgrove Hall, serves as MD and head of production for CHF Entertainment.   Designed to encourage kids to use their imagination, the series follows Pip! and his uncle, Skipper, in the fictional seaside town of Salty Cove, which was created by Ward in a series of bedtime stories for his kids while on vacation in the coastal town of Salcombe in Devon.  A pilot for Pip! is currently under way and will be showcased at Mipcom this fall.  CHF is currently in discussions with UK Broadcasters and hope to have a deal in place by the end of the year, followed by a master toy license deal by the end of next year.
