Good morning. It’s Thursday, August 16, 2012, and this your first early morning briefing.
Scholastic unveils a worldwide promotional campaign for Infinity Ring, its new multi-platform time travel/adventure series targeted to kids/tweens 8-12, which will launch simultaneously in the US, Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand on August 28 with the release of Book 1: A Mutiny in Time by noted author James Dashner (Maze Runner trilogy, The Kill Order). The Infinity Ring series, comprised of seven books and seven interactive online game episodes, follows three kids who must travel back in time to fix the “Great Breaks” in history. Each book in the series contains a free “Hystorian’s Guide,” a collectible map and game guide that provide readers the information they need to set history back on track in the Infinity Ring online game, which picks up where the book leaves off. Scholastic has already had success in the multi-platform reading and game area with The 39 Clues. For two weeks, now through August 27, 2012, Scholastic is offering a sneak peak of the 3-D Infinity Ring online game on www.infinityring.com, with a preview the game introduction video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWC37neWG0k&feature=youtu.be. The global promotional campaign gets underway in the US with comprehensive TV, online and print ad effort throughout fall 2012. Scholastic Book Clubs is sponsoring a national “Infinity Ring Rewrite History” classroom writing contest. Additionally, Dashner will make appearances at schools, bookstores, and libraries across the country supporting the launch.

December 2012Scooby-Doo where are you? Hanging out with the WWE Superstars that’s where. Warner Bros. and WWE Studios ink a deal to co-produce a Scooby-Doo animated feature where Scooby-Doo and the gang (aka those meddling kids) will solve a mystery at WrestleMania. Set for a 2014 home entertainment release, WWE Superstars and Divas including Triple H, John Cena, Kane, The Miz, Brodus Clay, Santino Marella, Sin Cara and AJ. All will star in their animated form and also lend their voices to the movie. As if he wasn’t animated enough, WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon will also be in the movie in animated form and his own voice. The film will be produced by Warner Bros. Animation. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will handle worldwide distribution on Blu-ray, DVD, VOD and digital download. WWE will market the release of the movie via its TV, digital media and print assets.

MARKETING
Aardman Animations‘ Wallace and Gromit will be the focus of a new ride, Wallace and Gromit’s ‘Thrill-O-Matic’, at the amusement park Blackpool Pleasure Beach in Blackpool, England. The new ride will take Wallace and Gromit fans on a adventure through some of the duo’s popular titles including A Grand Day Out, The Wrong Trousers, A Close Shave and A Matter of Loaf and Death. Fans will exit the ride through a shop where they can purchase Wallace and Gromit and other Aardman related products.
Nickelodeon will launch its new NickMom primetime, four-hour, comedy block, on October 1, 2012 on the Nick Jr. channel (10p-12a). Re-launching this week is NickMom.com (www.nickmom.com). The NickMom block will feature a mix of original long and short-form programming and will air nightly on the Nick Jr. channel (with replays 12-2a). Additionally, NickMom has given the go ahead for the new docu-comedy series My 63 Moms (13 episodes), which will join the block’s rotation in Q1 2013. The NickMom TV block debuts with four original series: Parental Discretion with Stefanie Wilder-Taylor (26 episodes) – offering a mix of interviews, commentary, monologues and panel discussion as well as hidden camera segments and sketch comedy; MFF: Mom Friends Forever (20 episodes) a docu-comedy series; NickMom Night Out (26 episodes) – a stand-up comedy series with various comedienne hosts such as Tisha Campbell-Martin, Judy Gold, Caroline Rhea, and Bonnie McFarlane; and What Was Carol Brady Thinking? (26 episodes) – the series goes inside the mind of iconic mom Carol Brady through graphic pop-up overlays on top of the original The Brady Bunch series to see just what she was thinking.
CBeebies for the Latin America and the US Hispanic communities will launch the second season of the animated preschool series Rastamouse on Saturday, August 18 at 4p. The series will continue to air on Saturdays and Sundays at 4p during the channel’s Playtime programming block. CBeebies is available on Channel 848 as part of DISH Networks’ DishLatino package, channel 1085 as part of Cablevision’s iO en espanol and Channel 1727 as part of Verizon FiOS TV. CBeebies is distributed by BBC Worldwide Channels Latin America & US Hispanic, headquartered in Miami, Florida.
Poptropica, a kid-centric virtual world, blasts kids off to the moon on its newest and 29th Island quest, Lunar Colony (http://www.poptropica.com/island-tour/lunar-colony.html). Lunar Colony debuts today with early access to Poptropica members, who will also receive special members-only items and access to a bonus quest. Non-Members will get their chance to play, with access to a limited portion of the Island, before the official public launch date on September 6, 2012. In Lunar Colony, players arrive at a moon base where they must search for a missing astronaut, who before disappearing left cryptic messages about an alien transmission. While searching for her “Poptropicans” will explore the secrets of the lunar surface and discover a mystery.
Entertainment One Family debuts Peppa Pig DVDs and a picture book for kids 2+ that will be available at Toys “R” Us stores nationwide. The two new Peppa Pig digital titles available on DVDs ($14.98/each), which are also available as digital downloads ($9.99/each), entitled Muddy Puddles and Other Stories and Flying A Kite and Other Stories, debut this month. Each of those titles runs 60 minutes and features 10 “peppasodes”. The digital downloads are available on iTunes, the titles are produced by Entertainment One. The new picture book, Peppa Pig and the Lost Christmas List, is set for release by publisher Candlewick Press this September 2012.
Germany-based toy company Playmobil and Gameloft, a publisher of digital and social games, enter into an exclusive partnership to develop Playmobil Pirates, the first mobile app for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. Set for release by the end of 2012, Playmobil Pirates will let users play with both classic and new figures from Playmobil’s popular pirate line, build their own pirate camp, and complete various missions and play mini games.

In his newly expanded position, St. Peters will develop and implement US and international sales, marketing and distribution strategies for all Shaftesbury and Smokebomb Entertainment properties across all genres. Additionally, he will also manage all sales deals and delivery of related assets, and continue to coordinate Shaftesbury’s sales presence at international markets and conferences. St. Peters joined the Shaftesbury in 2005, most recently serving as Manager/Sales. He previously toiled for Pearson Education as Marketing Manager.
