Cynopsis: Kids!

Good morning. It’s Thursday, April 20, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.

When G4 re-launches Attack of the Show (AOTS), its daily gaming news, information and everything else, on May 15 at 7p, the series will also introduce new co-host Olivia Munn, who joins co-host Kevin Pereira.  The new version of ATOS will include exclusive interactive components available to viewers across several platforms.  Munn, who will file reports from the E3 next month, will also co-host the second season of Formula D, G4’s series that features motor sport drifting. AOTS premiered in March 2005, taking the place of the series The Screen Savers (a carry over from TechTV before it merged with G4 in spring 2004), which signed off earlier that month.

X-Men fans alert!  Fox will air a 7-minute long preview of the movie X-Men: The Last Stand on Thursday, May 11 at 8:30p.  X-Men: The Last Stand will be released nationwide on May 26.  The teaser for the movie will air just before a special series ender of the network’s series That ’70s Show.

PBS Kids Sprout will celebrate Arbor Day with Sprout’s Spring Surprise, a three-hour special interactive on April 28, 9a-12p.  The event will be hosted by Big Bird and the Birdkateers, who will sing, make crafts, play games, plant trees and talk about taking care of the environment in segments wrapping around environment-themed episodes of the channel’s regular series.

mtvU, MTV’s 24-hour broadband network aimed at the college market, and Cisco Systems are sponsoring the first annual mtvU Digital Incubator development team. Ten student teams, with the most innovative and original entries that combine the elements of short-form programming, gaming, social networking, blogging, instant and text messaging, podcasting and mobile-based interactivity, were selected and given a $25,000 grant each. The first Digital Incubator projects will premiere in June and be a major focus of mtvU’s on-air, online and on-campus and wireless programming for the next six months.

The Stephan Co. has inked a sublicense pact to manufacture and distribute products based on Charles M. Schulz’s syndicated comic strip, Peanuts.  The agreement between Romella International AB, United Feature Syndicate, Inc., and The Stephan Company will run until March 2009.  Under the deal The Stephan Co. has the distribution rights to direct mail catalogs, duty free shops, department stores, home shopping channels, mass market retailers, and supermarket/grocery stores in the US.  Products will include a bath and body line beginning with a fragrance featuring Snoopy targeted to the younger market; and cosmetic bags and other types of carry-on bags.

RC2 Corporation has entered into a licensing deal with the American Red Cross to develop a line of infant and child care products.  RC2 will market and distribute the new line of American Red Cross branded infant/preschool products to US mass marketers and specialty retailers under it’s the First Years by Learning Curve brand.  The first products are slated to be available fall 2006.  In addition to The First Years, Learning Curve brands include Eden and Lamaze as well as a range of licensed properties (e.g. Thomas & Friends, Bob the Builder, Winnie the Pooh, Sesame Street and John Deere).

American Girl Place will open its West Coast location this weekend, April 22-23, 2006, at The Grove shopping/entertainment district in Los Angeles.  Like its other Chicago and NYC locations, the new American Girl Place includes a retail store (dolls, accessories, books), boutique, photo studio, and both The American Girl Café and Theatre.  American Girl, Inc. is a subsidiary of Mattel, Inc.
