Good morning. It’s Thursday, April 11, 2013, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

NBC Sports seems set to turn its digital plans to “11”, and is expected to announce today that the company will now make all of its primary events available for streaming for the first time. At NAB, the company announced a deal with Microsoft to deliver sports programming across digital platforms using Windows Azure, with the goal of offering live and on-demand programming for more than 5,000 hours of events. USA Today reports that the company will expand its offerings to include all NHL playoff games (including first-ever streams of the Stanley Cup) as well as streams of Major League Soccer, IndyCar, English Premier League soccer and Formula One.

On the Air

TNT is set to try out a new formula tonight, when the network broadcasts its Thunder/Warriors game without a play-by-play voice. Instead, the channel will feature a trio of analysts in Chris Webber, Steve Kerr and Reggie Miller for the 10:30p game. Action starts at 8p with Knicks/Bulls.

FOX Sports announced coverage plans for its upcoming UFC on FOX card that takes place on April 20 starting at 8p. Bouts will be highlighted by a lightweight title match pitting defending UFC champion Benson Henderson against top contender Gilbert Melendez. Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan will call all four bouts on FOX Sports with preliminary matches airing live on FX starting at 5p. FSMG’s coverage of FOX UFC Saturday starts this week at 9p on FX with the three-hour season finale of The Ultimate Fighter.

Spike TV revealed that its debut season of Bellator MMA delivered an average of 861,000 viewers, and wrapped up with 952,000 viewers for its finale event a week ago. The promotion’s events improved the network’s timeslot among Men 25-34 by 36% versus year ago numbers. For Bellator, the move to the broadly distributed Spike TV from MTV2 proved beneficial, with viewership rising 388% this past season. Meanwhile, Bellator announced that it will hold four-man tournaments over the summer in the Heavyweight, Light Heavyweight and Bantamweight divisions.

ESPN announced that rivalry game Mississippi/Mississippi State will air on Thanksgiving night, Nov. 28, at 7:30p. The matchup had once been a pillar of the network’s Thanksgiving programming, having run on the day from 1998 to 2003.

NBC Sports Network offers up more than 11 hours of Formula One coverage this weekend surrounding the Chinese Grand Prix live on Sunday, April 14 at 2:30a, with an encore presentation at 1p. The race will be preceded by F1 qualifying live on Saturday at 2a as well as practice on Friday at 2a. Leigh Diffey will be lead announcer for this week’s Formula One race.

Famed Brooklyn Dodger Don Newcombe is set to join actors Harrison Ford and Chadwick Boseman on Studio 42 with Bob Costas on Saturday at 4p on MLB Network. Newcombe will discuss his former teammate Jackie Robinson and the Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures presentation of 42.

HBO lined up a world super bantamweight title unification fight on Saturday with World Championship Boxing: Nonito Donaire vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux at 11p. Jim Lampley, Max Kellerman and Roy Jones Jr. will be ringside for the event.

RA Dickey will be featured on Sunday’s edition of 60 Minutes on CBS at 7p, with a look at the only pitcher throwing the knuckleball in the majors and his feelings on being traded form the Mets to the Blue Jays.

SNY slated an in-depth special on the championship UConn Women’s basketball team with UConn Women: A Championship Season presented by People’s United Bank tonight at 7p. The program features analysts Meghan Culmo and Kara Wolters, Kerith Burke and host Gary Apple and offers fans behind-the-scenes footage of the Huskies season from start to finish.

Sold out! See you at the Cynopsis: Sports Media Awards on April 17. The event takes place at Yale Club in Manhattan. Click here for more info.
