ABCNews.com is ending its experiment with former Rocketboom anchor Amanda Congdon, who hosted a weekly videoblog since December. The blog made headlines when it was announced, but failed to make much of an impact, as her followers didn’t seem to follow her to the site. Her fans shouldn’t worry though – Amanda still has plenty to keep her busy including those online infomercials for DuPont and her own product-placement supported show starringamandacongdon .
Fox is offering seven season premiere episodes from its fall lineup for free on iTunes to promote sampling among the web-savvy. The debuts of new shows Back to You, Kitchen Nightmares and K-Ville, along with the returning Prison Break, Bones, American Dad and ‘Til Death will available for two weeks from the day after they premiere on air.
The new season of CBS‘ How I Met Your Mother is being promoted across an array of platforms and sites. Condensed 3 minute versions of the first two seasons (remember that Sopranos remix?) are available on MySpace, YouTube and the CBS Audience Network. Facebook users can create their own recap, in hopes of being selected to air in a November episode. Meanwhile the slapcountdown is keeping track of how long it will be until Marshall fulfills his promise to slap Barney.
NYPost.com selected online video platform ROO to syndicate its video content. ROO also has syndication partnerships with News Corp’s Fox News Channel, Fox affiliates, Sky News and The Times of London.
Los Altos, CA start-up MooWee.tv launched an application that enables internet video content to be viewed on television using an internet-connected Nintendo Wii console. The user interface, optimized for the Wii controller, enables users to search for videos, share favorites and access most viewed or even editor’s picks. The software also keeps track of users’ history and reveals where each video clip was pulled from.
Online video podcast network PodShow will soon be viewable on TV’s equipped with broadband enabled Tivo‘s, according to a preview page up on the PodShow site. TivoCast subscribers will be able to sign up for Season Passes of their favorite user generated channels, just as they do with network shows.
Arris Group is acquiring broadband/cable/satellite technology provider C-COR for approximately $730 million in cash and stock. The newly combined entity will focus on revenue-producing technologies for high speed data, telephony, optical and network access infrastructure and video management solutions. The firms collected over $1.2 billion during the past 12 months.
Sling Media is working with DirecTV on its SuperCast service, offering live, online streaming of NFL games to DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket subscribers. Sling Media, makers of the controversial SlingBox, is managing back end operations determining which streams are delivered to which households, according to NewTeeVee.
Digital Stream USA unveiled the first digital-to-analog TV converter to be approved by the National Telecommunications and Information Admin. (NTIA), scheduled to hit the market early next year. The NTIA’s $40 coupon (two of which will be available per household) will bring the cost of the converter down to about $30.
Online advertising firm clickable.com launched a beta service using its proprietary ActEngine technology to monitor online ad performance. The system claims to help advertisers reduce costs and boost efficiency by providing actionable alerts and analytics that work across Google AdWords, Yahoo Search, Microsoft adCenter and other ad networks. Clickable was one of the 40 start-ups chosen to present at last week’s TechCrunch 40 conference.
Americans say they would have a harder time giving up the internet than any other activity including what’s normally reserved for between the sheets, according to a new survey conducted by ad agency JWT. Fifteen percent said they could not live a day without getting online. Another 21 percent said they could only go a couple of days before feeling withdrawal symptoms. Twenty percent of the over 1,000 surveyed said they knowingly spent less time making whoopee because of their online usage.
Online video watching has officially become an obsession, according to comScore‘s July online video viewing results with nearly 75% of all U.S. internet users watching online video. Online viewers watched an average of 68 videos during the month, consuming more than three hours of viewing time. The average clip spanned 2.7 minutes in length.

Salon Media appointed former digital media veteran Chris Neimeth as its new CEO, overseeing Salon.com and all of its business functions. Chris had stints with New York Times Digital, Grey Interactive, Real Media and IAC Partner Marketing. He succeeds Elizabeth Hambrecht who will remain on the Salon board of directors.
Allen & Company backed-NABBR, a video widget platform, has appointed two executive members to their team, joining founder and CEO Mike More and founder and CTO Bill Cromie. Zeeshan Zaidi joins the company as Chief Content Officer and Head of Business Development and Drew Berkowitz joins as Chief Revenue Officer.
One of the things that worries folks about publishing content on the web is loss of control. A new site called TubesNow.com solves the problem by creating a software-based template that allows users to drag videos, photos, music, etc. onto a “tube” on their own desktop that instantly creates a minisite others can access. Any changes you make instantly change the “TubeSite.” Any content you pull off stays off because it resides on your own hard drive instead of on a social network’s server.
