NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS

Street fashion photographer and blogger The Sartorialist’s Scott Schuman has created a 12 episode web series for AOL On, which focuses on how fashion shapes people’s lives on a global level. Two episodes have been released on www.on.AOL.com: one takes place in Milan; the second takes on fashion and bullfighting in Madrid.

The Apple product trade-ins took what seemed to be an unusual twist on Friday, as Microsoft announced it would pay $200 or more for a gently-used iPad, in the form of a Microsoft gift card. That made it not so unusual. No word yet on what Microsoft will do with the iPads.

CONTENT MEDIA

A new service from FanBridge called Channel Pages feels almost like a dating site for YouTube creators, as its goal is to hook people up so they can grow a brand through collaboration. To entice a partner, a creator launches a personal page that includes their relevant stats: video views, demographics and word clouds based on titles and descriptions of videos from their channel. Users can also list the types of collaborations they desire, such as “promotion via social media,” or “description link swapping” as well as set up creators with applicable brands. Sounds dreamy.

Microsoft has made the gamer-created abbreviation of the new Xbox One console, Xbone, official with the purchase of the Xbone.com domain name. Gamers on the Internet have been known to coin abbreviations in the past for most consoles – for instance, the Nintendo 64 is called the N64 and the PlayStation 2 is called the PS2.

Women-focused media publisher TotallyHer Media launched the redesign of its www.Momtastic.com branch on Friday. It includes a new product promotion platform in which advertisers can sponsor specific stories within the site’s categories, such as Finders Keepers for shopping or Cravings for pregnancy. It also features a guest column from Bravo’s Real Housewives of New Jersey housewife Caroline Manzo.

Networks (both Cable & Broadcast) are faced with eroding ratings and ad dollars shifting from TV to Digital. MOBILE GAMING + APPS

CBS Interactive’s new CBS Fantasy Sports PrePlay prediction gaming app was released on Friday, which allows users to forecast college and pro games in real time and up to the second before each play during a game. During Fantasy Football season, the app will feature 15 games to make predictions for per week, and will include ads from CBSSports.com sponsors. Players will also be able to chat with friends through the app using Twitter and Facebook.

Adult Swim Games’ Giant Boulder of Death rolled its way to the top of the iTunes charts this week, which marks the third number one hit in 2013 for the television network’s mobile game. Previous hits included Robot Unicorn Attack 2 AND Amateur Surgeon 3.

On Friday, recent AOL acquisition Adap.tv renamed its video ad technology Platform to Pathway, and updated its buyer platform to be called Audience Path and the seller platform to be called Demand Path. Audience Path helps advertisers reach audiences across devices and access audiences, while Demand Path connects publishers to advertisers’ needs.

EXEC MOVES

Univision’s network President Cesar Conde has joined NBCUniversal as its new executive Vice President, the company announced on Friday. Conde spent ten years at Univision.

DIGITAL SPOTLIGHT OF THE DAY

Chipotle‘s latest marketing strategy has gone viral and struck an emotional chord at the same time. The chain restaurant has just released a three-minute animated short film that’s earned 3.3 million views in just four days. Starring a scarecrow who discovers what the fast food industry usually means when they tout “natural” food, the spot is part of Chipotle’s promotion for its new mobile game app, Chipotle Scarecrow. The strategy is innovative and bold, which is usually key to going viral.
