BabyFirst, the babies/toddlers/family aimed network, and Reader’s Digest are teaming up to produce a co-branded child development book series based on the BabyFirst’s programming. Set to launch in summer 2013, the first two books in the BabyFirst-Reader’s Digest book series are Peekaboo Farm ($6.99), a flap book, and Rainbow Horse – Colors All Around ($5.99), a board book. The books will be available nationwide at retailers such as Bed Bath Beyond, TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, Stein Mart and Ross, among others.

LICENSING

Lisle International completes a new publishing deal with Hachette Children’s Books for 9 Story Entertainment‘s animated series Almost Naked Animals. Under the agreement, Hodder Children’s Books, a division of Hachette Children’s Books, will develop a full publishing program, excluding magazines, for the UK & Commonwealth territories (excluding Canada). The Almost Naked Animals books are set to debut in spring/summer 2013, with the first titles in the series launching in the UK. Other UK licensees for Almost Naked Animals include Titan Publishing (magazines), Character Options (mini figures and playsets), Underground Toys (talking plush), Basic Fun (non-talking plush), Imagination Games (card games) and Funky Pigeon (greeting cards, posters and mugs). Hachette Children’s Books also publishes books based on other entertainment properties including The Vampire Diaries, Charlie & Lola, Beast Quest, The Famous Five and How to Train Your Dragon.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Verizon inks a deal to make Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, which share channel space, available in HD on FiOS TV (Channel 757). Cartoon Network broadcasts from 6a-9p, while the young-adult and up aimed Adult Swim can be seen 9p-6a.

Network Ten (Australia) acquires the boys-targeted, CGI animated HD, adventure/comedy series, Matt Hatter Chronicles (26×30) for its digital free-to-air channel, Eleven. Matt Hatter will debut in 2013 as part of Eleven’s Toasted TV. The TV series is produced by UK-based Platinum Films and Toronto’s Dream Mill, with animation produced by Canada’s Arc Productions. Last month Platinum Films debuted the initial phase of matthatter.com. Platinum work with Eleven to develop online activity, innovative and interactive digital content and social media engagement to support the series. Matt Hatter Chronicles premiered on Teletoon Canada (in English and French) in September 2012, also airing in the UK on Nicktoons and ITV. The series has been sold to Nickelodeon (Australia and New Zealand), RTE (Ireland), SABC (South Africa) and JCC (Middle East region).

Mattel marks the 30th anniversary of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe by teaming with indie game publisher Chillingo and mobile developer GlitchSoft, to launch the new He-Man game app. The game debuts on the iOS platform and features 27 game levels in seven realms of the kingdom of Eternia – with side scrolling and “Tap and Slash” functions. The game features the iconic characters He-Man, Skeletor, Castle, Grayskull, among others, while also offering secret powers and in-game upgrades as well as housing hidden collectible content in each level. Chillingo, a division of Electronic Arts, has published titles such as Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, Contre Jour, Feed Me Oil and Catapult King.

Common Sense Media (www.commonsense.org), a nonprofit designed to help kids/families operate in a world of media and technology, launches its new free Kids Media app that aims to help parents make informed choices about media content for their families. Featuring Common Sense’s age-based ratings and reviews of movies, apps, video games, TV shows, books, websites, and music, the new app allows parents to create personal profiles of their kids and receive custom recommendations based on age and media type, and the ability to make purchases directly within iTunes. A version for Android will be available on November 1, 2012.

Disney Publishing Worldwide releases an early readers app in the Windows Store, Disney Princess Dress-Up Sticker Book. The new app showcases the Disney Princesses in an interactive story and dress-up sticker book with illustrations, narration, and music and is compatible with devices that use Windows 8. Developed with Vectorform, The book app also invites young readers to explore royal weddings, special celebrations, and other events as they change outfits and accessories on screen. The app also has a camera feature that lets kids upload their own photo and save royal portraits for friends. Fans can also save their sticker creations. The app is currently available in English, with other languages to follow.

Activision and Mind Candy release the new game Moshi Monsters: Moshlings Theme Park for Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS. Based on Mind Candy’s Moshi Monsters property, Moshi Monsters: Moshlings Theme Park game lets players explore a new Moshi universe and work to rebuild the theme park. Gamers can also uncover secret codes online at moshimonsters.com, which will unlock areas and content on the game for both Nintendo’s 3DS and DS systems. Users of the Nintendo 3DS can interact with other Nintendo 3DS players via the StreetPass feature and play games that bring the Moshlings to life in a different way. This game is a follow-up to the Moshi Monsters: Moshling Zoo game.

Please include the following information: type of program (i.e. series, special, documentary, movie or holiday-themed episode), title, dates and times of all airings (please indicate when the show first premieres and when subsequent encores will air). A confirmation email will be sent following each submission from Gwen (if you don’t receive a confirmation email, please resubmit).
