Good Morning.  It’s Monday, October 29, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing. 

Debmar-Mercury will bring out American Chopper and Deadliest Catch in syndication, available in September 2008 and 2009 respectively.  Both shows will be offered as two year deals and available as a weekly, on a straight barter basis. Discovery will oversee the ad sales.  Handling the syndication deal from Discovery’s end is Joel Berman, brought in as a consultant on several projects by Discovery CEO David Zaslav.

Litton Entertainment will take two MTV series into syndication – Pimp My Ride and Cribs, both available in Fall 2008.  Terms call for either a weekly or strip deal, and both shows currently have more than 100 episodes available.

Expected to launch today is the beta version of the online video site Hulu.com, set up by NBC and Fox to rival the major viral video sites such as YouTube, Veoh and Google.  Available on the site and full shows from NBC and Fox, as well as programs provided by Sony and MGM, including The Office, King of the Hill, The Simpsons, Monk, and older programs such as The Pretender, Picket Fences and Miami Vice.  The site also promises to offer up to ten feature films, among them The Blues Brothers and The Breakfast Club.

Ever wonder what it would be like living on a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier that is 24 stories high and equivalent in length to three football fields with 5,300 Navy personnel? PBS’ new series Carrier reveals daily life on board the USS Nimitz. Almost 2,000 hours of hi-def footage was shot on board ship during a six-month deployment to the Persian Gulf from May to November 2005 with three months spent in combat in support of ground troops. Carrier debuts April 27 through May 1, 2008 from 9p-11p each night on PBS affiliates (check local listings in your area). The series, produced by Icon Productions, LLC and Carrier Project, Inc., and is presented by WETA/Washington, D.C., with funding provided by the CPB/PBS Challenge Fund.

NATPE 2008 returns to Las Vegas this year on January 28-31 t the Mandalay Bay, and returning to the convention floor in its first post-Robertson year will be Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. Among WB first run project in development that may be part of their offerings this January is the Bonnie Hunt Show.

~  PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

CBS has given a put pilot commitment to a new project called Private Lives of Public People, about three adult siblings and community leaders whose private lives are in complete disarray as compared to their neatly tailored public lives, report THR.  This project is from Jonathan Groff and 20th Century Fox TV.

And THR reports a second project from 20th, a comedy from Abraham Higginbotham that has been picked up by Fox.  The storyline takes place among the staff of a well-to-do New York hotel.

Bennett Media Worldwide (BMW) and Thought Equity Motion (TEM) will work together to produce and distribute original men’s lifestyle-focused programming. BMW will be the exclusive programming supplier from the joint venture with both companies developing and producing for both digital platforms and traditional television media worldwide.

MTV Australia VJ, Lyndsey Rodrigues will join MTV stateside based in New York starting December 1. She will co-host TRL with Damien Fahey and she will emcee The Big Ten and other specials such as MTV’s New Year’s Eve and Spankin’ New Music Week. Lyndsey has the distinction of being the first Aussie to become a VJ on MTV U.S., and won the role after doing a one-off co-hosting gig of TRL in New York last August. Occasionally, she will be a contributor for the MTV Networks Australia team. Her replacement in Australia will be named the week of November 19.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Jonathan Block-Verk is the new President for the non-profit Promax/BDA association for creative and strategic professionals in the electronic media marketing, promotion and design industry. Jonathan will begin his post in January and will oversee the management of the association and work with the Board on future growth strategies.

Indika Entertainment Advertising tapped Peter Aguanno as VP/Creative Advertising, Cable and Television. Peter and the company will develop creative to help networks build their brands and create advertising and marketing campaigns for various channels and shows. He will report direct to both Vivek Mathur and James Verdesoto, Co-Presidents.

FOX Sports and FSN upgraded Robert Gottlieb to SVP/Creative Director for Marketing and On-Air Promotions. Robert, who has been with FOX since 2000, will continue to spearhead the FOX Sports and FSN in-house creative department that produces the network’s on-air promotional spots in addition to spots for other Fox Network Group channels such as Big Ten Network and Fox College Sports and their online partner Foxsports.com. He will also continue to report to Erik Markgraf, EVP, FOX Sports Marketing.

Netflix, Inc. appointed of Lisa Nishimura-Seese to the newly-created position of VP/Independent Content Acquisition, responsible for broadening the selection of independent and small studio films that Netflix offers its subscribers. Most recently Lisa was GM Palm Pictures in NY.

FOX’s World Series Game 1 coverage won at 8p with a 4.5/14, while the premiere of NBC’s Phenomenon came in third at 3.0/8. The World Series on FOX then remained in the top seat at 9p with a 6.5/17 and again at 10p with a 6.7/18.
