Good morning. It’s Monday, October 22, 2007, and this is your first early morning.
Albus Dumbledore is gay. No really, Harry Potter creator/author JK Rowling revealed the bit of information to an audience of fans, including NYC public school kids, at Carnegie Hall on Friday as part of the Scholastic Open Book Tour for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (HP7) according to fan site The Leaky Cauldron. On Friday’s stop, a fan asked the author about the background of Hogwarts headmaster Dumbledore, specifically his love life. Rowling response was simple, “I always though of Dumbledore as gay.” Which was followed by a ponderous moment or two and then by cheers and applauds. Furthermore the author explained in his younger days Dumbledore had been taken with Gellert Grindelwald, before he turned fully evil, adding that he [Dumbledore] was, “horribly, terribly let down by him [Grindelwald].” Ultimately Rowling pointed out that this information underlines the importance of tolerance that the book continually reinforces. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has mailed out its 9th set of letters (400+ this time) to students at 19 US universities, warning of its intent to sue illegal file-sharers for copyright infringement. As they have with all such previous letters, the RIAA proposes a settlement resolution opportunity, at a “discounted rate” to those alleged music file-swappers to avoid litigation. Not veiled threats, the RIAA continues to take students to court over copy infringements.

This month has been a big one on the international front for Nickelodeon with localized versions of its Kids Choice Awards show hosted on Nickelodeon UK this past Saturday, October 20, 2007, and a little more than a week ago in Australia and Germany. Hosted by the UK band McFly, which won as best band, at London’s ExCel Center, The Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards UK will air on Nick UK this coming Saturday, October 27. Winning two awards each were Harry Potter, Disney’s High School Musical, The Simpsons and Avril Lavigne: HP’s Emma Watson was voted best actress for her role as Harmione Grainger and the top book nod went to Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows; Zac Efron and Ashley Tisdale took bests in the TV Actor and Actress categories for their roles in High School Musical; while lauded Lavigne as their favorite female singer and similarly the music video for her song Girlfriend. MARKETING/LICENSING
Activision has teamed with Disney-ABC Television Group’s ABC Entertainment and BBC Worldwide America to produce the first Dancing with the Stars video game of the Wii gaming system. Set for release October 30, 2007, the Dancing with the Stars game features those who have taken part in the show including Emmitt Smith and Stacy Keibler. The game carries an ESRB rating of E 10+, and will also be available simultaneously for PlayStation 2, compatible with the consoles Dance Pad. A limited-edition Dancing with the Stars dance pad bundled with the PlayStation 2 game will be available on November 13, 2007.
The Game Factory is set to release Strawberry Shortcake The Four Seasons Cake for Nintendo DS on November 15, 2007. Targeted to kids 3+ the game is rated E.

Yoda is getting his own pane of Star Wars commemorative US Postal Service stamps. Yoda won this honor after fans cast 500,000 votes making the Yoda stamp the most popular of the pane issued in May of this year.
