Good morning. It’s Thursday, November 29, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Oni Press and Wildbrain Entertainment team up to introduce a line of Yo Gabba Gabba! Board Comics! this month.  Targeted to preschoolers, the board book meets comic books are designed to introduce young fans to the world of comic books.  The first two titles in the series are Yo Gabba Gabba!: Gabba Ball and Yo Gabba Gabba!: Goodnight Gabbaland.  Each Board Comic (traditional 10 inches by six inches) is comprised of 16 pages ($7.99).

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Kimberley Walsh, one of the members of the British gal group Girls Aloud, joins the cast of the 3D Horrid Henry: The Movie, per Variety.  The Vertigo Films and Novel Entertainment movie already features a cast headed by Anjelica Huston and Richard E. Grant, as well as featuring Rebecca Front, Parminder Nagra, Noel Fielding, Mathew Horne, Prunella Scales and Jo Brand.  Walsh will make a cameo as Henry’s cousin Prissy Polly.  Based on Francesca Simon’s Horrid Henry books, Horrid Henry: The Movie is slated for a summer 2011 release.  Co-funded by the UK Film Council, Prescience and Aegis Film Fund, the movie will be distributed by Vertigo Films in the UK.

MTV Networks International inks further Nickelodeon TV programming blocks with broadcasters around the world.

  • In Latin America: free-to-air broadcaster TV Hondurena (Honduras) picks up a new block featuring Nickelodeon programming including iCarly and Penguins of Madagascar; Antena Latina (Dominican Republic) signs on fro a block featuring Back at the Barnyard, Big Time Rush, iCarly, Drake & Josh (seasons 1-4), Fairly OddParents, Penguins of Madagascar, and renews its deal for Dora the Explorer; Teleamazonas (Ecuador) takes a Nick block with featuring programs such as Back at the Barnyard, Big Time Rush, new episodes and renewals for Fairly OddParents, Fanboy & Chum Chum, iCarly, The Mighty B! (season 1), Penguins of Madagascar, True Jackson, VP, and Ni-Hao Kai Lan, with other renewal deals for Avatar  The Last Airbender, All Grown Up and Unfabulous; terrestrial and cable broadcaster Venevision (Venezuela) renews its branded programming block, which features Back to the Barnyard, Big Time Rush, Fairly OddParents, Fanboy & Chum Chum, iCarly, SpongeBob SquarePants, Penguins of Madagascar, Tak and the Power of Juju, The Mighty B! and True Jackson, VP.
  • New Emerging Markets: free-to-air broadcaster STB/QTV (Ukraine) signs on for a Nickelodeon programming blocks; cable and satellite channel Balapan (Kazakhstan) picks up a preschool block featuring Dora the Explorer, Go!, Diego, Go! and Ni-Hao Kai Lan.
  • In Asia Pacific: multimedia broadcaster ABS-CBN (Philippines) picks up Nickelodeon blocks; meanwhile Studio 23 (Philippines) has signed an MTV Block.

DHX Media signs a range of broadcast and home entertainment agreements for its preschool programs across Asia, ahead of ATF (Asia Television Forum) next month in Singapore.

  • Astro acquires the exclusive rights to the preschool series Super Why (65×22) and Franny’s Feet (52×22) for Malaysia and Brunei, while InnoForm Media picks up the Super Why home video rights for the same territory, as Media Link takes home video rights in Thailand.
  • JCG (Korea) takes the VOD rights for Franny’s Feet and Super Why!  Tarra Group Indonesia picks up the home video rights for Franny’s Feet and further episodes of Cbeebies’ Grandpa in My Pocket.

MARKETING/LICENSING

DC Entertainment enters into a publishing deal with UK-based Alligator Books for the animated TV series Batman The Brave and The Bold.  Under the deal, Alligator will create a line of Batman The Brave and The Bold activity pads, sicker books and coloring books for release in the UK.  The line will launch at Spring Fair in February 2011.

Nickelodeon Consumer Products International (NCPI) completes deals for Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants across Iberia.

  • New NCPI deals specifically for Spain include: Regal Arts signs on to create SpongeBob SquarePants based wood products, including boxes, chests, pencil holders, photo frames and clocks; Artesania Cerda inks a deal for Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob for a range of fashion and accessories, including bags, belts, caps, gloves, scarves, sunglasses, umbrellas and raincoats; Bernada becomes a footwear licensee for a line of SpongeBob SquarePants trainers and sports shoes; United Labels Iberica completes a deal for SpongeBob SquarePants products including board games, garden accessories, tin ware, wallets, purses and toys; BYC Corona will launch SpongeBob SquarePants car booster seats and car chairs; NCPI inks deals with Exit Toys and Games to produce a sticker pack, while Ingo Devices signs on for a digital camera promotion in conjunction with El Pais and department store group, El Corte Ingles; Bresson Internacional, a houseware, kitchenware and baby product licensee, completes deals covering both Dora and SpongeBob.
  • NCPI deals covering Spain and Portugal: for SpongeBob SquarePants, Lugar Diffusion will create hair and fashion accessories; Editorial Everest completes a publishing deal for coloring, activity, story and chapter books, as well as sound books, which are exclusive to Carrefour Spain in November; Surplastik inks a Dora the Explorer deal for bath sponges
  • Deals for SpongeBob SquarePants in Spain, Portugal and Andorra: Rusque signs on to offer SpongeBob branded umbrellas; Vidal also joins for SpongeBob wet wipes.
