ABC decided to not give back orders to two first season series, Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue. Both series premiered with modest ratings in September with each averaging a 1.6 A18-49 rating. Last Resort is from creator Shawn Ryan and Sony Pictures Television and has been airing in the Thursday 8p time slot. 666 Park Avenue, from Warner Bros. Television, has been airing opposite NBC’s Sunday Night Football and tied its series low 1.3 rating in its most recent airing. ABC will air the remaining episodes of both series’ original 13-episode orders.
Effective immediately, CBS canceled first season comedy Partners. This move comes after Partners posted a series low 1.8 rating among A18-49 in its most recent airing. CBS will replace Partners in the Monday 830p time period with comedy repeats, including a repeat of Two and a Half Men tonight, until midseason comedies Friend Me or Rules of Engagement can be brought out.
Thursday’s broadcast of the XIII Annual Latin Grammy Awards on Univision attracted 10 million viewers who tuned in to all or part of the live three-hour event. The broadcast also tallied an average audience of close to 5 million total viewers; 2.6 million A18-49 viewers; and 1.4 million among A18-34. Additionally, during the broadcast, Univision Communications Inc., unveiled Generacion America, a new empowerment platform dedicated to preserving and sharing the stories of Hispanics in America. This platform is part of Univision’s overall corporate strategy to celebrate the contributions Latinos have made to the US. Generacion America is developed in partnership with the Immigrant Archive Project and is a multi-faceted initiative that includes video vignettes and events using Univision’s television networks, local television and radio affiliates as well as its digital platforms.
Outdoor Channel Holdings Inc. is merging with InterMedia Outdoors Holdings, LLC to form one large multiplatform company called InterMedia Outdoor Holdings, Inc. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2013 with the further expectation the new entity will be listed for trading on NASDAQ. The newly-formed InterMedia Outdoor Holdings, Inc. will unite outdoor television, print, digital and social media in addition to editorial and content production for the hunting, shooting, fishing and conservation categories. Outdoor Channel, with around 38 million subscribers and Sportsman Channel, in 30 million homes, will continue to operate as separate linear channels.
Beginning today, Hallmark Channel’s daytime program Home & Family will see a change with its co-hosts as co-host Paige Davis opted to leave the show with her last day being November 16. Talk show veteran, Cristina Ferrare will become the new co-host through the holiday season joining Mark Steines. Hallmark Channel released this statement about the change late last week:
- “Hallmark Channel announces today that, sadly, Paige Davis will leave her role as co-host of Home & Family, the channel’s new daily lifestyle program. Her last episode will air on Friday, November 16th. After much thought and careful consideration, and after close to three months away from her own home and family, Paige has decided to temporarily return to New York. We deeply appreciate the contribution Paige made to Home & Family and for the warmth and talent she brought to the set each day. Talk show veteran, Cristina Ferrare will step into the co-host role through the holiday season and will begin appearing on air on Monday, November 19th.”
A third season of Lisa Kudrow’s Web Therapy is on tap at Showtime. The web-to-television comedy series received the third season order from Showtime consisting of ten half-hour episodes for 2013. In the next season, featured guest stars will include Matt LeBlanc of Showtime’s Episodes (and Kudrow’s former Friends co-star), Meg Ryan and Jesse Tyler Ferguson and more celebrities will be announced soon. Kudrow will continue in the starring role playing the delusional and narcissistic online therapist Fiona Wallace who treats patients in three-minute sessions via webcam. Web Therapy is created by Kudrow, Don Roos and Dan Bucatinsky for Is or Isn’t Entertainment.
Discovery Channel’s docu-soap reality program American Chopper will end its 10-year run on television next month. The series clocked a total of 233 episodes featuring Paul “Senior” Teutul and his son Paul “Junior” Teutal as they built motorcycles while bickering at their New York shop Orange County Choppers. The series originally debuted on Discovery in 2003 then moved to sister network TLC in 2008 and was canceled in 2010. TLC resurrected the series later in 2010 as American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior though half-way through the season the series moved back to Discovery under its original title. American Chopper will end its run with the special, Chopper Live: The Revenge, a bike build-off in Las Vegas on December 11 at 9p.

Atlas Media’s producers, associate producers and coordinating producers earlier last week presented to Atlas Media a petition signaling their desire to remove the Writers Guild of America, East, Inc. (WGA) as their bargaining representative. The petition was signed by an overwhelming majority of bargaining unit members, Atlas Media, as required by law, officially withdrew recognition from the WGA, effective immediately. Two years prior, Atlas Media’s producers voted to allow the WGA to bargain with Atlas on their behalf. Over the last 18 months, Atlas Media has been negotiating in good faith with the union for a collective bargaining agreement though no deal had been reached and no contract was signed. Upon receiving notice from Atlas Media of its removal, the WGA immediately filed an unfair labor practice charge with Region 2 of the National Labor Relations Board contesting the withdrawal.
Former cast member of Entourage, Constance Zimmer will next appear in a recurring role on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. Zimmer will play Dr. Cahill, a confident professional with a wicked sense of humor. She will appear in at least four episodes and is scheduled tentatively to begin her role on the Shonda Rhimes drama in late January.
Janina Gavankar (True Blood) has booked a multi-episode run on The CW’s Arrow. Gavankar will play McKenna Hall, a Starling City PD vice cop who knew Oliver Queen back in his pre-island bad boy days.
