Hyde Park Entertainment teams with Singapore’s Toonz Entertainment and Gang of 7 Animation to produce the CGI-animated feature film The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus, based on L. Frank Baum‘s book of the same name, according to Variety. With product set to begin this month at the Toonz Animation studio in India, The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus is slated for release for holiday 2010. Hyde Park Entertainment holds the international distribution rights and shares the domestic rights with Gang of 7 Animation.
MORE KIDS STUFF
Disney Channel will premiere new installments of its Pass the Plate short-form segments beginning Friday, November 28 at 12:55p. Hosted by Brenda Song (The Suite Life on Deck), the Pass the Plate segments feature Disney Channel stars from nine countries as they share their family cultural traditions about food and preparation and healthy eating. Produced by Riverstreet Productions, Pass the Plate segments features kid stars from Disney Channels in Brazil, France, Italy, Japan, Singapore, Spain, US, and Vietnam.
Kadokawa acquires the Japanese movie distribution rights to Imagi‘s upcoming feature film Astro Boy, per Variety. Set for simultaneous release around the world in October 2009, Astro Boy will be distributed by Summit Entertainment in the US and other territories, with Golden Harvest and Enlight Pictures handling distribution in Hong Kong and China.
MARKETING/LICENSING
Atari will release Ghostbusters: The Video Game in 2009 to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the film’s original release. Set two years after Ghostbusters II, the game features a new story penned by the original Ghostbusters writers Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd. Atari will work with Sony Pictures Consumer Products Inc. and development studio Terminal Reality to release the game for multiple platforms. As previously reported the original cast members of the Ghostbusters movies, including Bill Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis, and Ernie Hudson, will lend their voices and in-game likeness to the Ghostbusters: The Video Game. The game also features performances by William Atherton, Annie Potts and Brian Doyle-Murray, among others.
In other Ghostbusters anniversary news, Sony Pictures Consumer Products has licensed the property for several new products, including toys, t-shirts, comic books, prop replicas and a theme park attraction. The original Ghostbusters car (Ecto-1) will also make promotional appearances across the US and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II on Blu-ray.
