For the yet-unnamed premium pay television network and VOD service launching next year, Viacom will infuse no more than $100 million, and is talking to others about joining the partnership. Current partners in the venture include Viacom’s Paramount Pictures, MGM and Lionsgate, all of which are not renewing their output deals with Showtime and placing their movies on the new network. CBS Television Distribution’s Ghost Whisperer has been sold to WE tv and Sci Fi Channel, who will both begin airing the off-net CBS series this fall, reports Variety. the show was also sold to broadcaster ION Television. We tv is expected to strip the series, while Sci Fi Channel is likely planning on running the show in mini-marathons, once or twice a week. Sci Fi also picked up a handful of other series from CBS Television Distribution including Charmed, Star Trek: TNG, Highlander and Mork & Mindy. Buoyed by its airing of Legally Blonde The Musical, MTV has a new reality competition series which chronicles the search for a lead star to follow Laura Bell Bundy on Broadway as Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search For Elle Woods premiering June 2 at 10p. Throughout the eight episode series, starring Broadway actress Haylie Duff who also executive produces along with Reveille, ten hopefuls will live together in a New York City loft apartment while at the same time competing with each other, each ultimately hoping to be Broadway’s new Elle Woods. There’s buzz about new syndicated properties and personalities being considered for next season – among them:

The show focuses on freelance news writers as they chase down news stories day and night, and then sell their on-camera interviews/headlines to various location and national news organizations. CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer sent out a “Dear Jerry” letter on Saturday, officially withdrawing his bid for Yahoo. In the end, upping the offer to $33/share failed to entice the portal’s leadership, who resisted Microsoft’s advances from the get go. Now the speculation begins regarding how Yahoo and Microsoft will strengthen their positions as they continue to lose search market share to Google. Will Yahoo merge with AOL? CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Iron Man muscled into its opening weekend to glean an estimated $101 million domestically in its first weekend, and if you include the Thursday night preview showings that moves up to $104+ million. The Paramount and Marvel Studios’ the PG-13 movie rang in as the second-biggest superhero movie opening weekend ever for a movie that was not a sequel, behind Spider-Man (May 2002), and the 10th biggest of all time, according to Box Office Mojo.
