Good morning. It’s Monday, May 15, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.
NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
The premiere of TLC‘s new original series Surviving Motherhood is scheduled for this afternoon at 3p and it will subsequently air M-F during the channel’s Mom-focused daytime block. Set in local coffee houses, each week begins with a new group of five Moms and young kids, who don’t know one another. Each day the show focuses on one of the Moms and their family/kid related issue (e.g. bedtime, postpartum depression, discipline, wife/husband relationships, and single parenting etc.), followed by the other Moms suggesting their solutions. Every episode will include tips and advice from kid experts in a range of fields. TLC’s series A Baby Story will serve as the lead-in to Surviving Motherhood.
Joining the cast of the movie Hey, Hey, It’s Esther Blueburger is Toni Collette (The Sixth Sense) and Keisha Castle-Hughes (Whale Rider). Written and directed by Cathy Randall who is making her directorial debut, Hey, Hey, It’s Esther Blueburger is slated to begin production this October in Australia. The movie is a comedy that revolves around 13-year-old girl dealing with family, school and social stuff of middle school, not to mention her upcoming Bat Mitzvah. Buena Vista International will release Hey, Hey, It’s Esther Blueburger in Australia and New Zealand, with Lightning Entertainment handling sales for the rest of the world. Additionally, Lighting Entertainment will introduce the movie this week in Cannes. The movie is being produced by Miriam Stein and executive produced by Heather Ogilvie and Stephen Hays.
MORE KIDS STUFF
Adult Swim debuts a second 14-episode season of Tom Goes to The Mayor on June 4, 12:30a. The season will feature guest voice appearances by Bob Odenkirk, Dave Foley, Gary Busey, Judd Hirsch, Sean Hayes, Janeane Garofalo, Bob Balaban, Garry Shandling, Robert Loggia, Michael Ian Black, Zack Galifianakis and Sir Mix-a-Lot.
Hearst Magazines is creating a 16-page “Mis Quince” detachable segment to be placed in the October subscriber issues of CosmoGirl and Seventeen and Teen‘s fall issue. The section will center on quinceanera, a Hispanic celebration of a girl’s 15th birthday. Mis Quince will include a Quince countdown, prep list, articles, beauty tips and more in its first copy according to Ad Age. Hearst mentioned that future plans could include more editions and possibly a separate magazine.

MARKETING/LICENSING
Playskool, a division of Hasbro, Inc., has licensed GestureTek Inc’s video gesture control patent and technology for use in its new ION Educational Gaming System (EGS). Playskool aims to get K4-7 up and active by putting them within a game in real time using its set-top console with a built-in camera where they can control game-play by moving their bodies and interacting with early learning pre-literacy and math skill based games. Expected to be available beginning this August, the ION EGS ($99.99) will come with one Active Learning Disc that has four sample games featuring Nickelodeon characters from shows including SpongeBob SquarePants, Blues Room, LazyTown and Dora the Explorer. Additional discs ($14.99 ea) will be available for two developmental age groups, K4-5 and K5-7, with every disc containing five games, each with three levels.
Juicy Couture has inked a deal with Tawil Associates Inc. to manufacture, distribute and market Juicy Couture boys’ and girls’ apparel for newborns and infants, as well as in Layette sizes 0-24 months. Juicy Couture Baby is set to launch to the trade in October of 2006 and is slated to be available at retail in June 2007.
Though not slated for release until next month, a demo for THQ Inc.’s its game MotoGP ’06 for Xbox 360 can be downloaded from Xbox Live Marketplace. The demo features the Mugello racetrack, where players race as a world-class, and one extreme track, the high-rise metropolis of Tokyo. The multiplayer game supports up to 16 gamers simultaneously. MotoGP ’06 was developed by Climax, based on a license from Dorna Sports.
Motorola, Inc. has introduced its new football Gaming Headset X205, which is based on the headsets worn by NFL coaches. The headset features include noise canceling microphone and supports voice recognition commands, and has a mono ear cup and volume controls. The headset is compatible with the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 game consoles.
